  • Take a look at our latest Blog post, The Two Year Old Money Pit
  • Kenwood Racing’s record has been nothing short of phenomenal this summer; a word we rarely use but with eight wins, six seconds and one third from eighteen starts in July and August including three wins and four seconds from seven starts at our home base of Monmouth Park, it certainly applies. Congratulations to all our owners on your many successes with; Life On the Edge two wins in a row! Highwaytwentyseven, a going away 5+ length win in his Kenwood debut and a game 2nd today. Two wins in a row for Rapstorerocks at Penn National, including a head bob thriller in a 3 horse photo in his last, No Good Deed, New Found Treasure, 2nd, 1st and 3rd in her last three starts, a win and a photo finish 2nd for Giuliana Vee and a very game 2nd in her Kenwood debut for Tracy Ann’s Legacy and more to come!
  • Our next online seminar via GoToMeeting is Purses & Claiming” this Thursday at 7:30pm. An absolute must for anyone interested in how the claiming process and the economics of racing work. Space is filling up, please RSVP if you plan to join us!

  • A surprise entry for Highwaytwentyseven at Monmouth Park main track only paid off today as he was an excellent second, running back on just seven days rest. The winner simply outran him from the start and after chasing hard from second, another horse ranged up inside of him and he appeared to be tiring in 3rd . Instead, he found another gear and fought back in the stretch to re-take 2nd in a very game effort. This nice 3yo has a win and a second now in two starts for us since being claimed, both at significantly higher levels than we claimed him for. Congratulations to the owners of group #58 who have a group of really nice, hard-trying runners!

  • Seven Seven came out of his career debut so well that we kept him at Saratoga. He was entered today for a race Friday and it went. Top rider Luis Saez liked the horse last time and stays aboard for this one. His debut was a lot better than most people probably realize so with a better trip this time, we are expecting a big step forward.
  • Some great photos-videos of the thrilling win for Life on the Edge on Friday at Monmouth Park.  A special shout out to trainer Kelly Breen for his 800th career victory, we are thrilled to have it come with one of our horses! Life on the Edge came out of the race tired (as you would expect from such a game nose win off just 2 weeks rest) but sound and well. Look for her in a similar spot in September….

  • Our newest member of the stable, Itsgottabemyway doing great. She was very impressive the day we claimed her at Monmouth Park; sat off the pace early, made a sustained four wide move on the far turn, and won going away. A special welcome to several new co-owners who joined the Kenwood Racing family with this group, we appreciate all of our owner’s support.
  • Pango doing well out of his last start is on the Also Eligible list in an overflow field for next Friday at Penn National, will need one scratch by race day to get in, will look at alternate races for him in the meantime.
  • Giuliana Vee good out of a very game 2nd following a fine debut win at Penn National. She too is on the Also Eligible list in an overflow field for next Friday at Penn National, will need one scratch by race day to get in. Will look at alternate races for her too.

Not a good luck of the draw in either of these races but in fairness we’ve had more than our share of good entries this summer and there’s a very decent chance a horse will scratch out of these races for one reason or another and we’ll get to run. If not we’ll just have to find alternate spots, stay tuned.

  • Fire's Finale will be entered Thursday for Sunday at Monmouth Park, doing great off an excellent closing 2nd last time and we sure hope the race goes.
  • Rapstorerocks training great, will be entered in one of two spots next week at Penn National looking for his 3rd win in a row. Had a nice easy maintenance work today;

  • New Found Treasure fine out of a good 3rd Wednesday at Penn National. Had a good trip and a good ride, just beaten to the wire while running well and hitting the board once again. She’s been 3rd, 1st and 2nd in her last three starts.
  • No Good Deed ok out of a rough trip last time when 4th at Penn National, looks like end of August for her next start.
  • Tracy Ann’s Legacy good out of her excellent, hard-trying 2nd, picking up $10,000 in purse $ in a tough allowance race last week at Monmouth Park. This race comes back in the book at the end of August and while no guarantee it will go, if it does the timing would be excellent to run back in there and hopefully it will stay on the turf. This is a very nice filly and looks like an excellent claim for our active racing group #58, should be lots of good times ahead with her.
  • Adhwaa training well at Monmouth Park, no issues.
  • Blu Candy well at the farm. Expect her to return to training at Monmouth Park in September. We are not rushing her as she’s bred to mature into a nice filly.
  • Lisa Limon and her Liam’s Map foal well at Hidden Brook Farm in Ky. Hard to find a better looking horse. Congratulations to Lisa’s brother Snow Man, who won the Duke City Sprint Stakes off a 8 month layoff! Our Liam’s Map – Lisa Limon foal should be a very popular commodity when we sell him as a yearling next year.

  • Life on the Edge continued our amazing run of good results when she won today by the slimmest possible nostril today in the 6th at Monmouth Park in a thriller. Perfectly placed in 4th on the outside off a fast pace by leading rider Paco Lopez, she made a sustained move on the far turn to take over the lead and opened up several lengths at the top of the stretch, but it was not over as she began to tire in the final yards. Paco asked her for everything she had and it was (barely!) enough as she held on by the slimmest possible nose at the wire. She returned on 2 weeks rest and was incredibly game at a distance a bit beyond her liking. When things are going well you get the breaks; she got a great ride, a good staking trip, and the head bob went our way tonight.

  • We are pleased to welcome a new horse to the barn as we claimed the cleverly named Itsgottabemyway today at Monmouth Park. She was very impressive; sat off the pace in the early going, made a sustained four wide move on the far turn, and won going away. Running well is not as important as people think, what matters more is how they come back, but that said she galloped back to the winner’s circle full of run and cooled out perfectly back at our barn. She was 4th choice in the race, not obviously the best of this field, so to see her win this impressively is certainly a positive sign. Never any guarantees with any horse but for less than $2,000 everyone in our oversold new group #61 has reason to be very pleased at this juncture. A special welcome to several new co-owners who joined the Kenwood Racing family today, we appreciate all of our owner’s support.

Not a good luck of the draw in either of these races but in fairness we’ve had more than our share of good entries this summer and there’s a very decent chance a horse will scratch out of each of these races for one reason or another and we’ll get to run. If not we’ll just have to find alternate spots, stay tuned.

  • A surprise entry (sort of!) for Highwaytwentyseven at Monmouth Park this Sunday. He is entered main track only (MTO) for a grass race Sunday coming back on 1 week rest. Trainer Kelly made the entry at the last minute yesterday because the horse came out his race perfect and if it was rained off the grass would be an incredibly weak group compared to what he’d face otherwise. Worth the risk of a bounce which could absolutely happen. When the owner insists a trainer run a horse back too quick it’s a recipe for disaster, when the trainer sees the horse doing well and takes a shot because it’s a great scenario, it’s worth a try (even when it doesn’t work ). Weather calling for 50% chance of showers Sunday so not impossible but unless you read otherwise Sunday morning he is NOT running
  • Seven Seven came out of his career debut so well that we kept him at Saratoga and are pointing him to a race at the end of next week. He will be entered this Sunday for next Friday. His debut was good, a lot better than most people probably realize. He made a huge move on the far turn to get alongside the 2 leaders, and then the horse next to him bore out badly, sending him 4 wide and causing him to lose all momentum and he finished 5th   “strung out 4 wide on the turn” according to the official chart. If the race goes, with a better trip and the debut experience, as well as he’s training we’d anticipate a big step forward.
  • Fire's Finale came out of his closing 2nd in his first start at Monmouth Park excellent and there’s an ideal spot for him too at the end of next week at the longer distance he’s bred for. Will be entered next Thursday for next Sunday at Monmouth Park and we sure hope the race goes.
  • Rapstorerocks training great, will be entered in one of two spots next week at Penn National looking for his 3rd win in a row. Had a nice easy maintenance work today;

  • Final call for the final two shares! $1,950, our lowest priced group in years. You should have received the details, first come, first served, closes Friday 9am!
  • Seven wins, five seconds and one third from just sixteen starts in July and August. Congratulations to all our owners on your wins with Highwaytwentyseven, No Good Deed, New Found Treasure, plus TWO wins for Rapstorerocks, a win and a photo finish 2nd for Giuliana Vee, an outstanding blowout win to end the July following an excellent 2nd on Haskell Day for Life On the Edge and a very game 2nd in her Kenwood debut for Tracy Ann’s Legacy. Kenwood’s record at our home base of Monmouth Park has been nothing short of phenomenal; a word we rarely if ever use but with two wins and three seconds from five starts for the meet it certainly applies. We picked up well over $20,000 in purse money with our win and two seconds last weekend alone and look forward to more wins and purses to come before the meet ends.
  • This might be a good spot to congratulate trainer Kelly Breen on an outstanding meet and also longtime friend, trainer Ben Perkins, who is also having a outstanding meet with a limited number of starters (see articles below) These are quality people with quality staff running top quality operations that put horses and owners first. If everyone ran their businesses like these trainers do, we’d have a much better industry.

  • We were able to dodge the rain and keep the race on the turf for New Found Treasure tonight at Penn National, a similar spot to the race she won last time. This one came up especially tough; the horse she was 2nd to a couple of races back was in there along with several others with good form but she ran her usual good race to finish a close 3rd, beaten just under 1 length for the win and just under 2 lengths for 2nd.  No excuse; a good trip and a good ride, just beaten to the wire while running well and hitting the board once again.
  • Life on the Edge runs Friday at Monmouth Park and will run on turf or if it’s rained off and ends up on dirt as it did last time when she won by almost 10 lengths. While she’s good on grass too, given her last race we won’t complain if it comes off again. She returns on 2 weeks rest and if she can handle a slightly faster than usual turnaround and gets her trip from a middle post this time, she’ll be tough to beat.  Leading rider Paco Lopez stays with her off her big win.
  • Seven Seven came out of his career debut at Saratoga, so well that we kept him at Saratoga and are pointing him to a race at the end of next week. If the race goes next week, with a better trip and the debut experience, as well as he’s training we’d anticipate a big step forward.
  • Fire's Finale came out of his closing 2nd in his first start at Monmouth Park excellent and there’s an ideal spot for him too at the end of next week at the longer distance he’s bred for. If the race goes and he keeps doing this well, he’ll be in it.  He’s bred to be a classic distance horse and get better as he matures, as we said before people bought into the group. We owned his mother and she went from a claiming sprinter at age two to a three time stakes winner going long at age three. We can’t guarantee Fire’s Finale will repeat her success but off two excellent efforts we have reason to believe he’s a talented horse and we are looking forward to a fine career with him. Being a Pa. bred gives us even more options with him down the road.
  • Highwaytwentyseven excellent out of his impressive 5+ length win at Monmouh Park and should run back towards the end of the month, looking for two in a row
  • Tracy Ann’s Legacy good out of her excellent, hard-trying 2nd at Monmouth Park, picking up $10,000 in purse $ in a tough allowance race last week. This race comes back in the book in 2 weeks and while no guarantee it will go, if it does the timing would be excellent to run back in there and hopefully it will stay on the turf. This is a very nice filly and looks like an excellent claim for our active racing group #58, should be lots of good times ahead with her.
  • Pango  doing well out of his last start at Penn National. A few strides after the wire he was in front and off this race we have renewed optimism that he can join the rest of our stable in the winner’s circle.
  • Rapstorerocks training great, comes off two wins in a row at Penn National!
  • Giuliana Vee good out of a very game 2nd following a fine debut win at Penn National.
  • Adhwaa training well at Monmouth Park, no issues.
  • No Good Deed just fine out of a rough trip last time when 4th at Penn National, looks like end of August for her next start.
And there’s another impressive Liam’s Map stakes winner (below). Our Liam’s Map – Lisa Limon foal should be a very popular commodity when we sell him as a yearling next year. Liam’s Map Filly Navigates Traffic to Garner Rising Stardom at Ellis

General News

Another terrific weekend, another terrific month, a great record at Monmouth Park, and the beat goes on! Seven wins and five seconds from just fifteen starts in July and August. Congratulations to all our owners on your wins with Highwaytwentyseven, No Good Deed, New Found Treasure, plus TWO wins for Rapstorerocks, a win and a photo finish 2nd for Giuliana Vee, an outstanding blowout win to end the July following an excellent 2nd on Haskell Day for Life On the Edge and a very game 2nd in her Kenwood debut this weekend for Tracy Ann’s Legacy.

Horse by Horse News

  • First up today was Highwaytwentyseven, entered on the turf at Monmouth Park hoping it would be moved to dirt and that’s exactly what happened, turning him from a live longshot (having never run on grass) to the horse to beat. He looked like the speed of the race and our plan was to get to the lead and never look back and that’s exactly what happened. He broke alertly from the unfavorable inside post, went to the front, repelled a couple of challengers on the far turn, and drew away in the stretch to win by over 5 widening lengths. Made up for losing the grass for Tracy Ann’s Legacy yesterday (who ran an excellent 2nd at Monmouth Park, despite the surface switch). Congratulations to our active racing group #58, for a very impressive win here, coupled with the excellent 2nd yesterday with Tracy Ann’s Legacy.

  • One race later Fire's Finale made his first start at Monmouth Park coming off a fine debut 3rd at Gulfstream Park six weeks ago. Stretched out a little in distance today he broke fine but had no speed early and dropped back to last. He gradually made up ground on the far turn while still far back and the top of the stretch looked off the board and hopelessly beaten. Then his long stride kicked in and he began to gobble up ground, running down the two front runners in the final stride to finish a fast closing 2nd to a favored and highly impressive first time starter. Before his debut at Gulfstream trainer Ron Spatz stated “he probably wants to go a little further, but I think he has enough speed to show himself going 5/8” and after the race we said “this is a very typical debut for many good horses and most move forward in their 2nd starts” and he did exactly that here. Congratulations to all his owners

  • The rain that worked to our advantage with No Good Deed previously and Highwaytwentyseven the following day was a disadvantage for Tracy Ann’s Legacy Saturday as her race was taken off the turf. After much discussion we decided to run and were rewarded as she ran an excellent, hard-trying 2nd at Monmouth Park, picking up $10,000 in purse money. She and the 1 to 5 favorite both were bumped and off a bit slow but they quickly recovered and battled head to head until the winner pulled away in deep stretch, but Tracy Ann never quit and ended up 6 lengths in front of the rest of the field in a very solid effort. We stayed in because she’s run well on dirt and sloppy tracks before, knowing she is clearly better on grass. However as trainer Kelly Breen said these races are hard to get to go, so with a 5 horse field we opted to run. This race comes back in the book in 3 weeks and while no guarantee it will go, if it does the timing would be excellent to run back in there and hopefully it will stay on the turf next time. This is a very nice filly and looks like an excellent claim for our active racing group #58, should be lots of good times ahead with her. It was a fun day, a good race, and more to come!

Kenwood’s record at Monmouth Park thus far has been nothing short of phenomenal; a word we rarely if ever use but with two wins and three seconds from five starts for the meet it certainly applies. Would love to have run more but with a very short meet (just began in July remember) and racing only 3 days a week, the opportunities to run have been limited but we’ve sure made the most of them. We picked up well over $20,000 in purse money with our win and two seconds this weekend alone and look forward to more wins and purses to come before the meet ends!

  • Speaking of opportunities to run, a surprise entry at Monmouth Park for Life on the Edge this week. She was excellent out of her 10 length win so when an ideal extra came up to enter in today Kelly Breen put her in and the race went for this Friday. She returns on 2 weeks rest and if she can handle a slightly faster than usual turnaround and gets her trip from a middle post this time, she’ll be tough to beat.  Leading rider Paco Lopez stays with her off her big win last time.
  • New Found Treasure runs this week at Penn National, a similar spot to the race she won last time. This one came up especially tough; the horse she was 2nd to a couple of races back is in there along with several others with good form, but as well as she’s been running recently she’s one of the top contenders nonetheless.
  • Enjoy some nice photos taken by trainer Mark Salvaggio of Pango, Giuliana Vee and Rapstorerocks training at Penn National. All of them are well (also New Found Treasure well, Mark couldn’t grab a good photo of her but will get one soon) and getting ready to run back later this month.
  • Pango doing well out of an excellent flying 4th at Penn National, beaten a head for 3rd in a photo and a heartbreaking 1 length for the win despite a tough trip. It was an ultra-tough race for the level with an overflow field and for the first time since we claimed him this spring, he ran a winning race. A few strides after the wire he was in front and off this race we have renewed optimism that he can join the rest of our stable in the winner’s circle.
  • Rapstorerocks great out of his 2nd win in a row at Penn National. Should run back towards the end of August.
  • Giuliana Vee good out of a very game 2nd at Penn National coming back on just 2 weeks rest off her debut win. There’s a race for her towards the end of August. This filly has matured into an honest, consistent runner and we are very pleased.
  • Seven Seven, is just fine out of his career debut at Saratoga. He broke well, sat an excellent stalking trip, made a huge move on the far turn to get alongside the 2 leaders, and then the horse next to him bore out badly, sending him 4 wide and causing him to lose all momentum and he finished 5th   “strung out 4 wide on the turn” according to the official chart. There was a steward’s inquiry into the running of the race but they made no disqualification, but in any event it really wouldn’t have helped him at that point.  While he probably wasn’t going to beat the winner, he was would likely have been 2nd or at least hit the board. We were expecting a solid effort from him and we got it, but it didn’t show up in the results. That said, he came out of the race fine and clearly has ability. Will come back next time at Saratoga or Monmouth Park and with a better trip be tough to beat.
  • No Good Deed’s just fine out of a rough trip at Penn National as she went to her knees when the gate opened, losing all shot. Despite that, she made a nice move to gain contention and kept fighting the entire way, finishing 4th, beaten in a photo for 3rd. The winner looked to be much the best but with a better start she clearly was 2nd instead of 4th. It was encouraging to see her not quit after a bad start and she should bounce back next time.

Those two races offer a good education as to just how much the trip matters in every race. Almost all of our many horses who have won this summer got good setups and clean trips; if Seven Seven and No Good Deed got better trips they would have been 2nd or 3rd instead of 5th and 4th and if Rapstorerocks had anything less than a dream trip and not hit the wire at exactly the perfect moment, he’d have been 3rd in a 3 horse photo instead of standing in the winner’s circle. If Life On the Edge didn’t get a favorable outside post or Highwaytwentyseven didn’t get a race rained off the turf where he was the controlling speed and was able to make an easy lead, they probably wouldn’t have won either, certainly not as easily as both did. The level of competition and the trip between them are easily 90% of the result at least 90% of the time.

  • Blu Candy gets a little time off at the farm and is doing well there. Expect her to return to training at Monmouth in September. We are not rushing her as she’s bred to mature into a nice filly.
  • Lisa Limon and her Liam’s Map foal well at Hidden Brook Farm in Ky. Hard to find a better looking horse. Congratulations to Lisa’s brother Snow Man, who won the Duke City Sprint Stakes off a 8 month layoff yesterday, coming from dead last to win by a neck (see attached chart)! He’s now a stakes winner after a close 2nd in a stake last year.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for August 7, 2020

Horse by Horse News

Finally after a long string of good fortune two horses ran well today and got tough trips that cost them placings…

  • First up was Seven Seven, making his much anticipated career debut at Saratoga. He broke well, sat an excellent stalking trip, made a huge move on the far turn to get alongside the 2 leaders, and then the horse next to him bore out badly, sending him 4 wide and causing him to lose all momentum and he finished 5th   (“strung out 4 wide on the turn” see attached official chart). Will come back next time at Saratoga or Monmouth and with a better trip be tough to beat.
  • This evening at Penn at was No Good Deed’s turn to get a rough trip, this time of her own making as she went to her knees when the gate opened, losing all shot. Despite that, she made a nice move to gain contention and kept fighting the entire way, finishing 4th, beaten in a photo for 3rd. Again the winner here looked to be much the best, but with a better start she clearly was 2nd instead of 4th. It was encouraging to see her not quit after a bad start, she too came out well so far and should bounce back next time.

These two races are a good if unfortunate education as to just how much the trip matters in every race. Almost all of the 6 horses who won last month got good setups and clean trips, while the two today got the worst of it. If Seven Seven and No Good Deed got better trips they would have been 2nd or 3rd instead of 5th and 4th; if Rapstorerocks had anything less than a dream trip and not hit the wire at exactly the perfect moment, he’d have been 3rd in a 3 horse photo instead of standing in the winner’s circle.

  • Tracy Ann’s Legacy was entered at Monmouth Park and the race went, she runs Saturday in a nice grass allowance event with a big purse. It’s an exceptionally tough spot, almost every horse in it comes out of a winning race, one of the few that don’t is the likely favorite, who comes out of a good 2nd in a stake at Belmont Park in her last. That said, Tracy Ann comes off a super-impressive win herself and has been training well, so we expect a big effort from her.
  • Fire's Finale was entered for Sunday at Monmouth Park and that race went with a nice short field. Looking forward to seeing him run locally!
  • Highwaytwentyseven entered for Sunday at Monmouth Park and that race went also, one race before Fire’s Finale. It’s on the grass, not what we wanted at all as he’s never run on it, but with no other option in sight and the horse doing really well, we decided to give him a chance on a new surface (through we wouldn’t mind at all if it came off the grass!).
  • New Found Treasure perfect out of her impressive win at Penn National and a race came up for her on the extras with good timing and she got in. She runs next week at Penn National in a similar spot to the race she won last time. Came up especially tough this time, the horse she was 2nd to a couple of races back is in there, along with several others with good form, but as well as she’s been running recently she’s one of the top contenders nonetheless.
  • Life on the Edge excellent out of her 10 length win at Monmouth Park. There’s an excellent race for her in about 2 weeks at Monmouth Park. She has really filled out and matured into a very good looking filly this spring-summer.
  • Pango ok out of an excellent flying 4th at Penn National, beaten a head for 3rd in a photo and a heartbreaking 1 length for the win despite a tough trip.
  • Blu Candy gets a little time off at the farm and is doing well there. Expect her to return to training at Monmouth Park in September. We are not rushing her as she’s bred to mature into a nice filly.

As usual, entry information can be found here.

Horse by Horse News

As most people know, a major storm hit the Jersey Shore this week and knocked out power in many locations, including unfortunately at Monmouth Park. They were not able to take entries at all yesterday, today they took them manually; no computers, no power. A bit of a mess and a bit of an unknown about racing this weekend (they can’t run until power is fully restored). But great news on entries, updated with 2 more for Sunday, six horses entered at three different tracks in the next few days, read below!

  • Seven Seven makes his much anticipated career debut Friday at Saratoga. Here’s a video of him walking on the van this morning at Monmouth on his way to Saratoga with his legs neatly wrapped for the trip. Look at what a big, strong, good looking colt this is (and how calmly he loads on the van). He gets top rider Luis Saez and a favorable outside post in an 8 horse field. While Seven Seven is bred to improve with age-distance (much like Fire’s Finale, who was a good 3rd in his debut) he’s shown speed and ability from the get go and with a decent trip we are expecting a solid effort from him.
  • No Good Deed will run Friday at Penn National IF (and only if!) the race comes off the grass. Right now weather says 80% chance of thunderstorms, doing a rain dance so stay tuned! If you do not hear from us, she is NOT running but it may be a last minute decision, we have until 5:30pm to see if the race comes off the grass.

  • We are down to the final share in Adhwaa, 10 shares sold in four days, very much appreciate the support. The group is under $3,500 for this classy, lightly raced 3yo filly with pedigree and a proven race record. If a picture is worth 1000 words, a video is worth 10,000. You can see it here.

  • Great news! Seven Seven gets in the entries at Saratoga on August 7th for his much anticipated career debut. Gets top rider Luis Saez and a favorable outside post in an 8 horse field for Kelly Breen, who is not only the runaway leading trainer at Monmouth but has been winning races at Saratoga as well. While Seven Seven is bred to improve with age-distance (much like Fire’s Finale, who was a good 3rd in his debut) he’s shown speed and ability from the get go and with a decent trip we are expecting a solid effort from him here.
  • Fire's Finale breezed again today and is ready to run, there is a race coming up for him at Monmouth Park on August 9th that we are pointing for.

  • Life on the Edge excellent out of her 10 length win on Friday at Monmouth Park, her 3rd win in 13 career starts with career earnings now approaching $60,000. There’s an excellent race for her in about 3 weeks at Monmouth Park. She has really filled out and matured into a very good looking filly this spring-summer.
  • Pango ok out of an excellent flying 4th at Penn National, beaten a head for 3rd in a photo and a heartbreaking 1 length for the win despite a tough trip. A few strides after the wire he was in front and off this race we have renewed optimism that he can join the rest of our stable in the winner’s circle.
  • No Good Deed excellent out of her impressive maiden win at Penn National. She was entered at Penn for next week and the race didn’t go. There was another race on the grass for August 7th, we have her entered there ‘dirt only’ so IF (and only if!) the race comes off the grass she’ll run, if not we have another race to enter in this week (she just broke her maiden impressively on the dirt and has no real grass pedigree or turf foot so no sense changing things up off a win and trying grass with her now).
  • Tracy Ann’s Legacy will be entered this week for an allowance race at Monmouth Park. Comes off a super-impressive win and we expect a big effort from her.
  • Highwaytwentyseven has several spots at Monmouth Park to point for in August, he too is doing well and we expect him to run a big race for us in his Kenwood debut.
  • New Found Treasure perfect out of her impressive win at Penn National and there are races for her coming up this month (August) at Penn, including one this week to enter in. This honest filly is a really nice grass horse and should have more good races to look forward to all summer and into the fall.

  • Video of Adhwaa, the newest member of the stable, training this morning at Monmouth Park. A better looking, more athletic filly would be hard to find. What a beautiful mover! If a picture is worth 1000 words, a video is worth 10,000. Group #60 was released to our Triple Crown Club members this week; 9 shares sold in the first 48 hours (thank you!). She offers pedigree with an established race record, coming off of two straight 2nds at the ultra-tough Oaklawn Park meet. After extensive vet exams and research, we were able to purchase her privately at a great price and the group is offered for under $3,500. All owners will receive a full package of information tomorrow. First come, first served for the final shares, keep your eyes open and respond promptly if interested

Racing news: two horses this evening at 2 different tracks, both ran well and another winning night to cap off a truly amazing month….

  • Life on the Edge was in just the race we were looking for at Monmouth Park until heavy rain took it off the grass. She was doing really well and did break her maiden on the dirt at Monmouth, so we stayed in with leading rider Paco Lopez and ended up with exactly the setup she likes, an easy stalking trip from the outside. To put it mildly, she sure made the most of it; despite stumbling at the start she quickly recovered and pressed the heavy favorite from the get go, taking over at will on the far turn and drawing away to a visually stunning 10 length win (9&3/4 according to the official chart ). This is a filly who is simply a different horse with the right (for her) trip whether on turf or dirt; outside of horses in the clear with a moderate pace. She got exactly that here and looked like a star. This is her 3rd win in 13 career starts with career earnings now approaching $60,000 and we think there’s more to come with her. Less than 10% of all horses win 3 races by the middle of their three year old year, kudos to trainer Kelly Breen for his careful management and congratulations to all her owners. Enjoy the video and photos from her race.
  • Then an hour later Pango was a flying 4th at Penn National, beaten a head for 3rd in a photo and a heartbreaking 1 length for the win despite a tough trip. It was an ultra-tough race for the level with an overflow field and for the first time since we claimed him this spring, he ran a winning race. A few strides after the wire he was in front and off this race we have renewed optimism that he can join the rest of our stable in the winner’s circle.

What an amazing month! Six wins and three seconds from just eleven starts in July! Congratulations to all our owners on your wins this month with No Good Deed, New Found Treasure, plus TWO wins for Rapstorerocks, a win and a photo finish 2nd for Giuliana Vee, and an outstanding blowout win to end the month following an excellent 2nd on Haskell Day for Life On the Edge

  • No Good Deed excellent out of her impressive maiden win at Penn National. She was entered today at Penn National for next week and the race didn’t go. There was another race on the grass for August 7th, we have her entered there ‘dirt only’ so IF (and only if!) the race comes off the grass she’ll run, if not we’ll look for another spot (she just broke her maiden impressively on the dirt and has no real grass pedigree or turf foot so no sense changing things up off a win and trying grass with her now).
  • Great news! Seven Seven had a super work. He got his gate card and is ready to run. He’ll be entered this weekend for a race at Saratoga on August 7th or next week for a race at Monmouth Park on August 15th. While he’s bred to improve with age-distance (much like Fire’s Finale, who was a good 3rd in his debut) he’s shown speed and ability from the get go and we are expecting a solid effort from him wherever he runs.

  • Tracy Ann’s Legacy is doing so well we entered her on short rest for an allowance race at Monmouth Park this weekend but it didn’t go. Fortunately, she has two nice allowance races to point for in August at Monmouth Park coming up. Comes off a super-impressive win and we expect a big debut effort from her.
  • Highwaytwentyseven has several spots to point for in August at Monmouth Park, he too is doing well and we expect him to run a big race for us in his Kenwood Racing debut.
  • New Found Treasure perfect out of her impressive win at Penn National and there are races for her coming up this month (August) at Penn National. This honest filly is a really nice grass horse and should have more good races to look forward to all summer and into the fall.

General News

  • We are very excited to announce a new addition to the stable, the three year old filly Adhwaa. She was privately purchased from Shadwell Farm and offers pedigree with an established race record, coming off of two straight 2nds at the ultra-tough Oaklawn Park meet (see below PP’s).

After extensive vet exams and research, we were able to buy her at a great price. She has arrived at Monmouth Park and is training with Kelly Breen. Look for the details on this very special group #60 shortly. Triple Crown members will get first shot and then any remaining shares will be offered to all current co-owners.  As with Blu Candy – our Candy Ride filly from last month’s Fasig-Tipton sale, we expect this group to sell out very quickly (likely will be oversubscribed) so watch for a separate email and please respond promptly.

  • A ton of new entry info. Read below and then look here for possible dates.

What an amazing month! Five wins and three seconds from nine starts in July! Congratulations to all our owners on your wins this month with No Good Deed, New Found Treasure, plus TWO wins for Rapstorerocks, a win and a photo finish 2nd for Giuliana Vee, and an excellent 2nd on Haskell Day for Life On the Edge.  All are doing very well out of their races and are pointing for more wins in August. Meanwhile, we have two new entries on tap for this week as follows….

  • Life on the Edge runs Friday at Monmouth Park in just the race we were looking for. It too came up tough and she too has a full field to contend with, plus comes back on short rest, but she’s doing really well and it’s just the right spot and she gets leading rider Paco Lopez, so if things go just right, she has a real shot to run another big race for us here and end our specular month on a high note.
  • Pango  runs Friday at Penn National, tries the grass in an ultra-tough race for the level with an overflow field. Will need a huge effort to hit the board in this one.
  • In other news, Seven Seven excellent. He’ll either make his debut at Saratoga or at Monmouth Park, depending on what comes up first.
  • Fire's Finale had some gate work and an excellent breeze yesterday and is ready to run, there are races coming up for him at Monmouth Park in early August.

Friday was a terrific night of racing that will not soon be forgotten….

  • New Found Treasure came out of an excellent 2nd and was poised for a winning race and didn’t disappoint, sitting off a fast early pace and flying down the stretch to win going away in race 1 at Penn National. A huge congratulations to Mark Salvaggio who is on fire this month and all her owners. This honest filly is a really nice grass horse and there’s plenty of turf ahead this season for her.
  • Then Rapstorerocks was at the right level and distance looking for two in a row off a fine maiden win and ran an exceptional race in race 11 at Penn National. Well back early as the leader opened up a seemingly insurmountable lead, he commenced a sustained run to gain contention as another horse rallied beside him. At the wire it was a three horse photo and Rapstore put his head up at exactly the right time to get the nod, winning a three horse photo by two short heads. When you’re hot, you’re hot and Kenwood is on fire. Jockey Julio Hernandez deserves a special shout out for some outstanding race riding on all our horses recently, and of course Mark Salvaggio has done his usual great training job for us. And a shout out to our partner Ralph Pastore who named this horse and has been on fire with us this month. Congrats. to everyone on one amazing month.
  • First up Wednesday evening was No Good Deed at Penn National. She drew the absolute worst possible #1 post but had been training super, so we were expecting a big race from her if she could work out a decent trip and she didn’t disappoint. Fortunately she broke like a shot and made the lead easily; once she was alone on the lead it was over as she never was threatened, winning by two lengths after being geared down inside the 16th pole when 6 lengths in front. She literally would have won by 10 if the rider had kept asking her (he did the right thing by wrapping up on her once it was clear she was going to win by daylight and even with that she was more than 11 lengths ahead of the 3rd horse). The race was run in a fast time for the level on a sloppy track and off this impressive maiden win we have reason to think she can be a nice filly and win more races for us properly spotted. On a personal note, No Good Deed was named by yours truly to honor my late father Norman Levinsky (who always used to tell us jokingly “no good deed goes unpunished”) so as with Giuliana Vee (just below) the long awaited maiden victory was especially sweet. Congratulations to our partner Ralph Pastore and all our co-owners!
  • A few races later Giuliana Vee drew in from the also eligible list and got to run from a favorable outside spot at Penn National. Despite coming back on just 2 weeks rest off her debut win she ran another huge race, finishing a very game 2nd in a photo finish.  She sat off the pace early, made a terrific sustained drive from the 3/8 pole to get right next to the leader by just couldn’t go by her in the final strides, coming up a head short at the wire. Very likely with a little more time between races she’d have got the win but it was a super race to end another big night for Kenwood runners on a high note. This filly has matured into an honest, consistent runner and we are very pleased. If you haven’t read it yet, take a look at this great story on Giuliana here.
  • In other news, Seven Seven excellent out of his work yesterday at Monmouth Park. He’ll either make his debut at Saratoga or at Monmouth Park, depending on what comes up first.

  • Fire's Finale galloping well after his arrival at Monmouth Park this week from Florida (brief video). Looking for a spot for him at Monmouth Park or Parx.
  • Both of our recent additions to the stable doing very well. Tracy Ann’s Legacy and Highwaytwentyseven were both claimed Sunday afternoon at Monmouth Park. Highwaytwentyseven, a three year old gelding who runs short on the dirt, ran decently when third as the favorite, a neck behind the 2nd horse in a photo after chasing the early pace of the winner. Meanwhile Tracy Ann’s Legacy, a four year old grass filly, went to the lead and never looked back, winning by nearly 5 lengths in a very fast time, by far the fastest of the day for the distance and less than 1 second off the time the male star Archidust posted when winning Saturday’s Wolf Hill Stakes at Monmouth the day before. Both horses look like solid claims and we look forward to them making their debuts for us next month at Monmouth Park.
  • Pango was entered at Penn National and got in for next Friday, trying the grass, doing well, but a super tough spot.
  • Life on the Edge good out of her excellent 2nd Haskell day at Monmouth Park. She’s a nice honest filly and is ready for the winner’s circle with a decent draw – trip next time.
  • Our Candy Ride – Tiz Blu filly is now officially named Blu Candy. She has settled in nicely since arriving at Monmouth Park.
  • Lisa Limon and her Liam’s Map foal well at Hidden Brook Farm in Ky. Hard to find a better looking horse, see photo. He was recently weaned and is doing excellent.
