  • Please take a look at our most recent Blog post, Fast works and high Prices at sales rarely equal racetrack success

  • We are very excited to announce the addition of a new horse. We are in the process of completing the private purchase of a 3 year old filly with pedigree and an established race record at a great price. Assuming everything goes through as expected, we will have the details shortly out to Triple Crown members and then to all current co-owners. As with Blu Candy – our Candy Ride filly from last month’s Fasig-Tipton sale, we expect this group to sell out very quickly (likely will be oversubscribed) so watch for a separate email and please respond promptly.

Horse by Horse News

Friday was a terrific night of racing that will not soon be forgotten….

  • New Found Treasure came out of an excellent 2nd and was poised for a winning race and didn’t disappoint, sitting off a fast early pace and flying down the stretch to win going away in race 1 at Penn National. A huge congratulations to Mark Salvaggio who is on fire this month and all her owners. This honest filly is a really nice grass horse and there’s plenty of turf ahead this season for her.
  • Then Rapstorerocks was at the right level and distance looking for two in a row off a fine maiden win and ran an exceptional race in race 11 at Penn National. Well back early as the leader opened up a seemingly insurmountable lead, he commenced a sustained run to gain contention as another horse rallied beside him. At the wire it was a three horse photo and Rapstore put his head up at exactly the right time to get the nod, winning a three horse photo by two short heads. When you’re hot, you’re hot and Kenwood is on fire. Jockey Julio Hernandez deserves a special shout out for some outstanding race riding on all our horses recently, and of course Mark Salvaggio has done his usual great training job for us. And a shout out to our partner Ralph Pastore who named this horse and has been on fire with us this month. Congrats. to everyone on one amazing month.
  • First up Wednesday evening was No Good Deed at Penn National. She drew the absolute worst possible #1 post but had been training super, so we were expecting a big race from her if she could work out a decent trip and she didn’t disappoint. Fortunately she broke like a shot and made the lead easily; once she was alone on the lead it was over as she never was threatened, winning by two lengths after being geared down inside the 16th pole when 6 lengths in front. She literally would have won by 10 if the rider had kept asking her (he did the right thing by wrapping up on her once it was clear she was going to win by daylight and even with that she was more than 11 lengths ahead of the 3rd horse). The race was run in a fast time for the level on a sloppy track and off this impressive maiden win we have reason to think she can be a nice filly and win more races for us properly spotted. On a personal note, No Good Deed was named by yours truly to honor my late father Norman Levinsky (who always used to tell us jokingly “no good deed goes unpunished”) so as with Giuliana Vee (just below) the long awaited maiden victory was especially sweet. Congratulations to our partner Ralph Pastore and all our co-owners!
  • A few races later Giuliana Vee drew in from the also eligible list and got to run from a favorable outside spot at Penn National. Despite coming back on just 2 weeks rest off her debut win she ran another huge race, finishing a very game 2nd in a photo finish.  She sat off the pace early, made a terrific sustained drive from the 3/8 pole to get right next to the leader by just couldn’t go by her in the final strides, coming up a head short at the wire. Very likely with a little more time between races she’d have got the win but it was a super race to end another big night for Kenwood runners on a high note. This filly has matured into an honest, consistent runner and we are very pleased. If you haven’t read it yet, take a look at this great story on Giuliana here.
  • In other news, Seven Seven excellent out of his work yesterday at Monmouth Park. He’ll either make his debut at Saratoga or at Monmouth Park, depending on what comes up first.

  • Fire's Finale galloping well after his arrival at Monmouth Park this week from Florida (brief video). Looking for a spot for him at Monmouth Park or Parx.
  • Both of our recent additions to the stable doing very well. Tracy Ann’s Legacy and Highwaytwentyseven were both claimed Sunday afternoon at Monmouth Park. Highwaytwentyseven, a three year old gelding who runs short on the dirt, ran decently when third as the favorite, a neck behind the 2nd horse in a photo after chasing the early pace of the winner. Meanwhile Tracy Ann’s Legacy, a four year old grass filly, went to the lead and never looked back, winning by nearly 5 lengths in a very fast time, by far the fastest of the day for the distance and less than 1 second off the time the male star Archidust posted when winning Saturday’s Wolf Hill Stakes at Monmouth the day before. Both horses look like solid claims and we look forward to them making their debuts for us next month at Monmouth Park.
  • Pango was entered at Penn National and got in for next Friday, trying the grass, doing well, but a super tough spot.
  • Life on the Edge good out of her excellent 2nd Haskell day at Monmouth Park. She’s a nice honest filly and is ready for the winner’s circle with a decent draw – trip next time.
  • Our Candy Ride – Tiz Blu filly is now officially named Blu Candy. She has settled in nicely since arriving at Monmouth Park.
  • Lisa Limon and her Liam’s Map foal well at Hidden Brook Farm in Ky. Hard to find a better looking horse, see photo. He was recently weaned and is doing excellent.
