Horse by Horse News

  • New Found Treasure “went easy, nice” Giuliana Veeworked good, doing fine” Rapstorerocks “Julio Hernandez worked him, never works horses fast and he likes him” and No Good Deed “doing real good” – (comments from trainer Mark Salvaggio) all worked at Penn National yesterday. Like everyone we are waiting for racing to resume at Penn. Unlike neighboring states where racing is set to resume, Pennsylvania is in the midst of a political battle and the date for tracks to re-open are still unknown, although news this morning indicated a possible agreement for racing to resume in June. Mark is looking at alternate tracks to run at beginning next month if racing is not officially scheduled to resume at Penn. It’s a challenging situation for everyone and we will keep you posted.
  • Fire’s Finale had another excellent work yesterday at Gulfstream Park. Went under wraps and still showed speed. Trainer Ron Spatz took this brief video of him at the track and thinks he’s about 30 – 40 days from his debut at this point.
  • Seven Seven  also doing really well, he’ll ship into Monmouth Park as soon as trainer Kelly Breen’s other horses arrive from Florida very shortly. Owner Ralph Pastore was on hand for his training yesterday at Overbrook Farm, took these photos and commented “He is doing very well, the rider said he is her favorite and will follow him throughout his career as he has a great ease when working”.
  • Pango, good out of an improved 4th last weekend at Gulfstream Park. It was without question a step forward and hopefully he’ll be ready for another move forward next time.
  • Life on the Edge  ok out of a mess of a race last weekend at Gulfstream Park. Her body turned the wrong way when they opened the gate, was caught flatfooted and squeezed, and after pressing the pace stopped to a walk and was eased to the wire. Fortunately she seems to have come back ok out of this, went back to the track today and trained fine at Palm Meadows. She will have the opportunity to make amends at Monmouth Park, she’s schedule to head north with the bulk of Kelly Breen’s Florida horses very shortly.

General News

  • A ton of works and photos to share, but first we begin with some news about our first online event via GoToMeeting, which will be held next week. All owners will receive a link shortly with details on the date & time. The meeting will include a report on all your horses, updates on the status of Monmouth Park, a discussion of upcoming 2 year old sales and plenty of time for your comments and questions. All Kenwood owners and premier friends are welcome to attend, stay tuned for details. If you don’t receive a link by tomorrow evening and wish to attend the meeting, kindly email Jack@kenwoodracing.com  . RSVP NOT required but if you do plan to join the meeting we wouldn’t mind if you let us know with a quick email
  • As usual, you can find updated entry information on your horses at Equibase or on our entries page.
  • Lisa Limon and her handsome Liam’s Map foal at Hidden Brook Farm, both doing excellent. Here’s a nice video of the foal learning to walk under the direction of a handler yesterday. They are taught lessons from a young age and you can see he’s calm, growing rapidly, and looks absolutely fantastic…

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for May 24, 2020

May 25, 2020 at 7:43 am • By Robb Levinsky

Horse by Horse News

  • First up at Gulfstream Park was an improved effort for Pango, who was coming off a truly awful debut for us (7th, beaten 15 lengths, never in the hunt). This time he went right to the lead, held it for most of the race, and tired a bit late to finish 4th, beaten just under 4 lengths for the win. It was without question a step forward and hopefully he’ll be ready for another move forward next time.
  • Next up at Gulfstream Park was the disappointment as Life on the Edge had her body turned the wrong way when they opened the gate, was caught flatfooted and squeezed, and after pressing the pace stopped to a walk and was eased to the wire, finishing 5th and last in the shortened field when the race was taken off the turf. Hopefully she’ll come back ok out of this and will have the opportunity to make amends at Monmouth Park, where she will ship to in about 10 days.
  • A really rough break on Saturday with Lookinlikeaqueen at Gulfstream Park. Broke flatfooted and bumped right at the start, costing her at least 4-5 lengths and putting her in last in the early going. Made nice multiple moves between horses and ended up 6th, beaten just over 2 lengths for the win and (seriously), ¾ of a length for 2nd in a blanket 7 horse finish. As the rider said, “if she breaks ok, she wins”.  In an overflow field with the highly unfavorable #11 outside post in a 12 horse field it all comes down to the trip, you just can’t afford to give away several lengths at the start. She was claimed from us as we knew going in, it was the same optional claiming race we claimed her out of 2 races back with a huge $41,000 purse that she can only run in for the claiming price. A good break and a win here and we make real $, instead we end up with the claiming price back minus 2 months of expenses.
  • In other news Fire’s Finale is training absolutely great at Gulfstream Park and we are excited to see him make his debut. He was going to work this weekend but the track was absolutely a sea of mud this morning so trainer Ron Spatz will give him a couple of days and probably work him Tuesday or Wednesday. If all goes just right from here he’s about 3-4 works meaning 30-40 days from being ready to run.
  • Seven Seven also doing really well at Overbrook Farm, he’ll ship into Monmouth Park as soon as trainer Kelly Breen’s other horses arrive from Florida in early June.
  • New Found Treasure, Giuliana Vee, Rapstorerocks and No Good Deed all well at Penn National. Like everyone we are waiting for racing to resume at Penn.

  • Enjoy these photos of Lisa Limon and her handsome Liam’s Map foal, both doing excellent and enjoying life in the lush grass of a Kentucky spring….

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for May 21, 2020

May 22, 2020 at 9:04 am • By Robb Levinsky

A big weekend ahead for Kenwood Racing runners at Gulfstream Park with one for Saturday and two for Sunday….

Horse by Horse News

  • Lookinlikeaqueen runs Saturday at Gulfstream Park in an overflow field with the highly unfavorable #11 outside post in a 12 horse field (with 4 waiting on the also eligible list to run if anyone scratches). Not an easy race but she’s training great and ready to run.  A good trip and she’ll run very well in here.
  • Life on the Edge will be scratched for her race tomorrow (Friday) in favor of a race Sunday at Gulfstream Park. She gets a good rider and a decent post, with the right trip should move forward from her 2020 debut last time when she took the lead at the top of the stretch and tired late in a race she needed.
  • Pango gets in Sunday at Gulfstream Park as well, one race before Life on the Edge runs, so a lot of action in a short time frame. It’s a 10 horse field and while he too draws an outside post, at 1 mile on the dirt that’s not a bad place to be and we are hoping for a better effort here than in his debut for us last time.

As usual, you can find updated entry information on your horses at Equibase or on our entries page.

Horse by Horse News

  • Lookinlikeaqueen was entered for Saturday at Gulfstream Park and the race went. It’s an overflow field and she got the highly unfavorable #11 outside post for the race in a 12 horse field with 4 waiting on the also eligible list to run I f anyone scratches.  Hopefully one or two inside of her will scratch by race time to give her a little better post. She’s training great and ready to run.
  • Pango was entered for two races this Saturday at Gulfstream Park and neither one went. One came back, enter tomorrow for Sunday.
  • Life on the Edge excellent out of a terrific work in company. She runs Friday at Gulfstream Park and will ship north about 10 days after her race.
  • Fire’s Finale perfect out of his work at Gulfstream Park this week. The horse is training absolutely great and is on track to run by the end of next month. We are very pleased and excited to see him make his debut.
  • Seven Seven looks absolutely super. He’ll ship into Monmouth Park in June.
  • New Found Treasure, Giuliana Vee and No Good Deed all well at Penn National. Like everyone we are waiting for racing to resume at Penn.

  • As usual, you can find updated entry information on your horses at Equibase or on our entries page.
  • Lisa Limon in foal to top young sire Palace Malice, checked again and in foal at 29 days which is great news. She and her foal by Liam’s Map are both doing excellent at Hidden Brook Farm.

Horse by Horse News

  • Life on the Edge excellent out of a terrific work in company.
  • Fire’s Finale continues to train exceptionally well at Gulfstream Park (see new photo from yesterday morning). He worked this morning at Gulfstream Park, his first 3/8 officially timed work and once again we’ll let trainer Ron Spatz do the talking…. “Good morning, I know I told you that I wasn’t going to breeze Fire’s Finale for a while, but he did so good out of the gate the other day and track was good this morning so I went ahead and breezed him 3/8, by himself. He went a little better than 36, did it very easily, no urging, just the right way, 12 and change, 12 and change, and finished up in 11 and change. Pretty impressive, he has a lot of talent”.  As detailed in our blog post (link above and repeated at the end of this email), workout times aren’t always accurate and mean a lot less than how the horse did it. That said, he had by far the fastest work of the day and as Ron stated just above “did it very easily, no urging”. As well as he’s training, our plan is to stay at Gulfstream Park through his debut and then ship north to join the rest of the stable at Monmouth Park in July. All of this subject to change based on racing schedules, etc. What matters most is the horse is training absolutely great and is on track to run by the end of next month. We are very pleased and excited to see him make his debut.
  • Seven Seven looks absolutely super (see photo from his gallop this morning at Overbrook Farm in NJ) and a brief video here. He’s ready to go to the track anytime; he’ll ship into Monmouth Park as soon as Kelly’s horses arrive from Florida and get set up in June.
  • Pango fine and will be entered Wednesday for this weekend at Gulfstream Park.
  • Lookinlikeaqueen ready to roll and will also be entered this week for this weekend at Gulfstream Park. She had a nice, easy maintenance work today to keep her sharp for her upcoming race and went easily and well.
  • New Found Treasure, Giuliana Vee and No Good Deed all well at Penn National. Like everyone we are waiting for racing to resume at Penn. Here are photos of Giuliana Vee, Rapstorerocks and No Good Deed this morning taken by trainer Mark Salvaggio.

 Horse by Horse News

  • Life on the Edge had a terrific work in company this morning at Palm Meadows (work below and video here). While it was the fastest work of the day, that means very little, what matters is how she did it. Kelly said she went great, that’s the real good news, not the workout time. She was entered yesterday and today in a great spot on the grass and when the race didn’t go we opted for a dirt race that did go, so she runs Friday at Gulfstream Park.
  • Pango was scratched yesterday at Gulfstream Park. It was a large, very tough field of 11 horses and torrential rains created a very sloppy, sealed track. Ron Spatz said the horse is “doing great now, as well as he’s been in weeks” and he didn’t want to risk him running on a bad track and going backwards out of a really rough race. With us, the welfare of the horse always comes first. He’s ready to run and we’ll look for the next possible spot for him. We entered him today for Friday but that race didn’t go.
  • Fire’s Finale continues to train exceptionally well at Gulfstream Park. It’s obviously still early in the process and no guarantees, but so far it’s all good news with this horse. He came into this with the pedigree and the conformation to make a very nice horse and it seems after a couple works he has a good mind and the desire to be a racehorse. We certainly have reason to be looking forward to his debut, which could be towards the end of June or in early July if all keeps going this well. Expect him to have some gate work in the next couple of days.
  • Lookinlikeaqueen ready to roll!  She had an absolutely super work last weekend and we entered her twice this week in races that did not go at Gulfstream Park, there’s another spot for her to enter this week. In the words of Ron Spatz “Lookinlikeaqueen worked like a queen, she went 48.3 and a decent gallop out. I was very happy with her breeze”.
  • Seven Seven training strongly at Overbrook Farm in New Jersey. He’s looks absolutely great, what a strong, handsome colt.
  • New Found Treasure, Giuliana Vee and No Good Deed all well at Penn National. Like everyone we are waiting for racing to resume in the northeast. The hoped for date for racing to resume at Penn is still unknown but we’ll have them ready to run in whatever race comes up for them.
  • Rapstorerocks well at Penn National. Mark Salvaggio likes what he sees so far and thinks he has a shot to do well there this summer. He should be ready to run when racing resumes at Penn.

General News

  • Good racing news as Belmont Park is cleared to resume racing June 1st. It’s a big step towards a full schedule of racing in the northeast, Monmouth Park is scheduled to begin their season July 3rd.
  • Speaking of workouts, here’s a great article from TDN about works and workout times, nothing our people haven’t heard before but worth reading for sure…Published Workouts: Inaccuracies are Inexcusable

Horse by Horse News

  • Pango was entered yesterday for Friday at Gulfstream Park and the race went.
  • More really good news with Fire’s Finale, who is training exceptionally well at Gulfstream Park. He worked this morning and again we’ll let trainer Ron Spatz (exact voicemail transcription) give you the report…  “Good morning Robb I went ahead and breezed Fire’s Finale this morning before the rains came, we got a good track to work on.  I went from the ¼ pole to the wire in company with the other colt he worked with last time. They went 23.3 and on the gallop out I got 37.2 and he has a very big stride and some talent. My riders said they had to keep a little hold of him this time to keep him even with the other horse, last time it was the opposite. So he’s certainly making progress and everything else is ok. This colt is getting a little ahead of himself with these breezes, he still has work to do at the gate so that’s what we’ll focus on the next few weeks”. Ron took a photo of him heading for the track this morning (see photos), he’s a much better trainer than he is a photographer but you can see the horse is thriving.
  • Nice morning photo of Lookinlikeaqueen on her way to the track at Gulfstream Park (see photo).  She had an absolutely super work Saturday morning, in the words of Ron Spatz “Lookinlikeaqueen worked like a queen, she went 48.3 and a decent gallop out. I was very happy with her breeze; scoped her, no blood or mucus. Onward and upward”. While it was one of the fastest works of the day, that means very little, what matters is how she did it. Ron’s words above are the real good news, not the workout time. We have several spots for her coming up at Gulfstream, most likely one on May 23rd with a nice purse or perhaps one the week before.
  • New Found Treasure, Giuliana Vee and No Good Deed all well at Penn National. New Found Treasure had an excellent easy work (below) and No Good Deed and Giuliana worked together (below). Take a look at the excellent photo Mark Salvaggio took of them coming to the wire head to head! Like everyone we are waiting for racing to resume in the northeast. The hoped for date for racing to resume at Penn is the end of this month and we’ll have them ready to run in whatever race comes up for them.
  • Seven Seven training strongly at Overbrook Farm in New Jersey. He’s looks absolutely great, what a strong, handsome colt, take a look at the photo trainer Rory Huston took of him and also at this short video Rory took.
  • Rapstorerocks arrived safely at Penn National Wednesday (see photo) and is already training. Mark Salvaggio likes what he sees so far and thinks he has a shot to do well there this summer. He should be ready to run when racing resumes towards the end of May.
  • Life on the Edge good out of her race at Gulfstream Park last Sunday.  It was an honest effort in a tough starter allowance event and the race should do her a world of good fitness wise. Off this she should be ready for a big step forward next time, probably towards the end of May.

As usual, you can find updated entry information on your horses at Equibase or on our entries page.

General News

  • Lisa Limon in foal to top young sire Palace Malice, checked again and in foal at 29 days which is great news. She and her foal by Liam’s Map are both doing excellent.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for May 5, 2020

May 6, 2020 at 9:30 am • By Robb Levinsky

General News

Good news to report, Monmouth Park released their schedule for the summer. Racing will begin July 3rd and The Haskell will be July 18th. Of course everything is subject to change, but it appears horses will be arriving at the barn area the 1st of June and the racing season will run from July 3rd – Sept. 27th. We are all especially looking forward to Monmouth this summer with the Kenwood Racing family, everyone could use some fun and excitement to look forward to.

Horse by Horse News

  • Nice morning photo of Lookinlikeaqueen on her way to the track at Gulfstream Park yesterday. “She’s doing great”, Ron Spatz.
  • Fire’s Finale is training well at Gulfstream Park, so well that Ron let him have an easy 2 furlong work yesterday morning, well ahead of schedule. The clockers don’t record times for 2 furlong works but we’ll let the usually reserved Ron Spatz do the talking about how he went (transcribed directly from his voicemail)… “We had a ¼ workout with the baby today, I sent him in company with my other colt. Basically went 1/8, out ¼, fractions were 11.4, 13.1, so they went in 25 seconds. It took him a couple of strides to get going, he’s a big long striding horse and the other horse is already up to 3/8 and he’s pretty quick, but he (Fire) caught right up to him and they went together the rest of the way, they both did it very easily and, you know, came back fine. Well within himself to do that. I was very pleased with the move, especially for a first work against a much more experienced horse who has a lot speed”. Really can’t ask for a better start in his training at Gulfstream.
  • Life on the Edge good out of her race last Sunday at Gulfstream Park.  It was an honest effort in a tough starter allowance event and the race should do her a world of good fitness wise. Off this she should be ready for a big step forward next time, probably towards the end of May.

As usual, you can find updated entry information on your horses at Equibase or our entries page on our website.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for May 3, 2020

Horse by Horse News

  • Life on the Edge was bumped at the start but recovered quickly and tracked the leader in 2nd for most of the race at Gulfstream Park, made a nice move at the top of the stretch to grab the lead, and then tired noticeably late to finish 7th. As mentioned going in, like almost any horse coming off a layoff we knew she’d need a race or two to be at her best and the time off clearly showed here. Jockey Dylan Davis rode her very well and said she tried every step of the way but was very tired at the end.  It was an honest effort in a tough starter allowance event and the race should do her a world of good fitness wise. Off this she should be ready for a big step forward next time, probably towards the end of May.
  • Lookinlikeaqueen breezed very well Friday morning at Gulfstream Park.  “I thought she worked very well. I got her in 48.2, 102.0, out in 116 and change, don’t know what the clockers got her at but she went 5/8 easy. She’s doing great”, Ron Spatz.
  • Nice photos taken by trainer Mark Salvaggio yesterday morning of New Found Treasure, Giuliana Vee and No Good Deed at Penn National. All are fit, healthy, and doing well. Like everyone we are waiting for racing to resume in the northeast. The hoped for date for racing to resume at Penn is the end of this month and we’ll have them ready to run in whatever race comes up for them.
  • Rapstorerocks will head up to Penn National for the summer on Wednesday in hopes he’ll fare better against softer competition.
  • Seven Seven training strongly at Overbrook Farm in New Jersey. He’s looks absolutely great, what a strong, handsome colt! We are pleased to report that Group #57 is now sold out and closed. It’s a tribute to our loyal co-owners to be able to sell out any racehorse syndicate at such a challenging and uncertain time. We appreciate your support of our program and look forward to an exciting summer with him and all our horses.
