Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for February 23, 2020

New entry, video & more

  • No Good Deed runs on Thursday at Gulfstream Park. She draws the highly unfavorable rail position but IF she breaks sharply should be the speed of the race and would have a real shot in here.
  • New Found Treasure gets in a full field at Penn National on Wednesday. Doing well, no issues, we are going to sprint her this time, an experiment. If she can handle the shortened distance and gets a good trip, she has a real shot in here.
  • Life On The Edge good at Palm Meadows. Kelly Breen took this brief 5 second video of her back on the track and training this weekend.
  • Lisa Limon is due to foal literally any day now, we’ll post photos as soon as possible of mother and baby. She’s in foal to a top young sire (Liam’s Map) and will be bred back to another (Palace Malice). A lot to look forward to here!
  • Giuliana Vee good out of by far the best race of her young career when a fast closing 2nd at Penn National just ½ length behind for the win while far ahead of the rest of the field at Penn National. She looks like she’s sitting on a win with a similar effort next time. Her next race is scheduled for March 7th

We are pleased to announce that our new active racing group is down to the final share. This will be your ONLY opportunity to be part of an active racing group in 2020.

A lot of news, photos and videos this morning, but we begin with the very happy announcement that Kenwood Racing partner George Katzenberger will be joining our management team for 2020. Most of you know George and are familiar with the great work he did for us last year as our owner services manager. His role will be expanding this year and we are all truly fortunate to have him with us. You can read more details in our press release. Welcome George!

We are pleased to announce that our new active racing group is down to the final share. This will be your ONLY opportunity to be part of an active racing group in 2020.

  • Our beautiful 2yo out of Exchanging Fire for group #56 is training at T-Square stud in Ocala. Here’s a video of him galloping in company at T-Square yesterday

  • Life On The Edge arrived at Palm Meadows this morning from Ocala, she looks happy and rested. Kelly Breen took the two below photos this morning at his barn at Palm Meadows.

  • Lisa Limon is due to foal literally any day now.  We’ll post photos as soon as possible of mother and baby. She’s in foal to a top young sire (Liam’s Map) and will be bred back to another (Palace Malice). A lot to look forward to here!
  • New Found Treasure will be entered tomorrow for a race at Penn National on February  26th. Doing well, no issues, we are going to sprint her this time, an experiment.
  • No Good Deed will be entered Saturday for a race next week at Gulfstream Park. Here’s a nice video of her training this week, she’s doing well.
  • Rapstorerocks training well at Palm Meadows, there’s a race for him at Gulfstream Park right at the beginning of March, enter next week
  • Solar excellent out of his impressive win at Gulfstream Park. We are looking at early March for his next start.
  • Night of Idiots just fine out of a good 2nd last weekend at Golden Gate Fields, coming back on just 7 days rest and beaten just ½ length for the win while far ahead of the rest of the field.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for February 15, 2020

Very exciting day!

  • Some very exciting news this afternoon with Lisa Limon! Palace Malice, the hot young sire she will be bred back to in 2020, had an impressive winner of the Risen Star stakes today. Mr. Monomoy won wire to wire, going away at the finish, and is now one of the early Kentucky Derby top contenders. This gives Palace Malice two major Derby contenders, all just as Lisa Limon is about to have her first foal by another top young sire, Liam’s Map. Lisa Limon is excellent at the farm in Kentucky. Her due date in next week and we are looking forward to a nice healthy baby any day now. Stay tuned!
  • In racing news, Giuliana Vee ran by far the best race of her young career when a fast closing 2nd today at Penn National, coming back on short rest. Breaking alertly here after doing some gate work off a couple of slow starts, she settled in 2nd behind the early leader, going easily. She was 5 lengths back at the top of the stretch and appeared hopelessly beaten but commenced a strong, sustained run to finish just ½ length behind for the win while far ahead of the rest of the field. In previous starts she’d tired in the stretch, this time she closed stoutly and looked like a different horse. Off of this one she looks like she’s sitting on a win with a similar effort next time.
  • Night of Idiots comes back on just 7 days rest tomorrow at Golden Gate Fields. She bounced out of her last really well, a good spot came up and trainer Jonathan Wong decided to enter her. It’s at 1 mile, hoping she will handle the longer distance and get a cleaner trip than she has when a troubled 3rd in her last two races.
  • Life On the Edge couldn’t look or be doing better. She was going to start training this week in Ocala but with the horrifying tragic death of Coty Davidson in an auto accident yesterday we’re going to bring her into Palm Meadows this week to resume training with Kelly Breen. She is expected to arrive Monday or Tuesday.
  • Solar excellent out of his impressive win at Gulfstream Park.
  • No Good Deed fine out of her race at Gulfstream Park. Here’s a video of her training this morning, moving well and easily.

  • Our beautiful 2yo out of Exchanging Fire for group #56 training at T-Square stud in Ocala is doing super; looks wonderful, all systems go. Plans are to ship into Monmouth Park at the end of April to Kelly Breen’s and continue his training there.
  • Rapstorerocks training well at Palm Meadows. There’s a race for him at Gulfstream Park right at the beginning of March.
  • New Found Treasure pointing for a spot at Penn National on February 26th.
  • Magic Musketier has been turned out at the farm.

We are pleased to announce that space for attending the OBS March sale with the Kenwood team is now full.

We are also pleased to announce that our new active racing group is nearly full. This will be your ONLY opportunity to be part of an active racing group in 2020.

We are pleased to announce that space for attending the OBS March sale with the Kenwood team is almost full. A maximum of two spots remain, act quickly if interested.

We are also pleased to announce that our new active racing group is filling up very quickly. This will be your ONLY opportunity to be part of an active racing group in 2020.

Next, take a look at our new blog post, Zayat Stables Results Is More Proof You Can't Come Out Ahead Overpaying for Horses, about the bankruptcy proceedings against Ahmed Zayat, owner of Triple Crown winner and leading freshman sire American Pharoah.

  • Solar excellent out of his impressive win. Could run back on short rest next week.
  • Giuliana Vee runs this week at Penn National on short rest. It’s a weak field at the right distance; trainer Mark Salvaggio feels she is doing well and didn’t want to pass this one up.

Here are a couple of photos, a bit blurry, of Giuliana Vee and New Found Treasure training at Penn National

  • Night of Idiots was a solid 3rd today at Golden Gate Fields in an 11 horse field; the front runner in the race grabbled an early lead and never looked back, but she closed nicely despite another rough trip in traffic to get 3rd money for the 2nd race in a row.

  • Solar excellent today out of his impressive win in race 4 at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. He came into this race primed and loaded for a big effort dropping into a softer spot and he did not disappoint, sitting a perfect trip just off the early speed under an outstanding ride by jockey Emisael Jaramillo, taking over the lead at the 1/8th pole and drawing away to win by just under 2 lengths with the bulk of the field far behind the top two runners. Congratulations to all the owners of this nice horse, who has now posted a win, a 2nd and two 3rds in seven starts since claiming him about 6 months ago at Monmouth Park.
  • Giuliana Vee runs on Saturday at Penn National on short rest. It’s a weak field at the right distance; trainer Mark Salvaggio feels she is doing well and didn’t want to pass this one up.
  • Life on the Edge at the farm in Ocala and couldn’t look or be doing better. Take a look at this video of her frolicking in her paddock at Davidson farm in Ocala. A bit grainy but you can see how happy she is and how well she’s moving. Thanks to Coty Davidson for the good care and this video. She will go back into training in Ocala next week and ship to Kelly Breen at Palm Meadows next month.

  • No Good Deed fine out of her race this weekend at Gulfstream Park, led to the stretch and stopped to a walk to finish 8th of 12 horses. It was an improvement from her debut when she broke slowly, made a move and then tired but in both races she ran out of steam late. The rider after the race said she did everything right but he felt she handled the turf in her debut better than the dirt today. Given that info. our plan is to try her back on grass next time at Gulfstream and there’s a couple of perfect spots for her at the end of February. Hopefully she’ll be ready for one of those.
  • Rapstorerocks training well at Palm Meadows, there’s a race for him at Gulfstream right at the beginning of March.
  • New Found Treasure fine out of her race at Penn National, may sprint her next time
  • Magic Musketier has been turned out at the farm.
  • Lisa Limon excellent at the farm in Kentucky, looking forward to a nice healthy baby in about 10 days.

Results, big win, another entry

  • First up No Good Deed broke like a shot and went right to the lead at Gulfstream Park, led to the stretch and stopped to a walk to finish 8th of 12 horses. It was an improvement from her debut when she broke slowly, made a move and then tired but in both races she ran out of steam late. The rider after the race said she did everything right but he felt she handled the turf in her debut better than the dirt today. Given that info. our plan is to try her back on grass next time at Gulfstream. With this one under her belt she should be dead fit for that and have no excuses next time. Usually horses who have natural speed like she’s shown are able to win races at the right level, so we have reason to expect some trips to the winner’s circle with her this year if she stays sound and keeps trying as she has so far.

  • Next up was Solar who came into this race primed and loaded for a big effort dropping into a softer spot and he did not disappoint, sitting a perfect trip just off the early speed under an outstanding ride by jockey Jaramillo Emisael, taking over the lead at the 1/8th pole and drawing away to win by just under 2 lengths with the bulk of the field far behind the top two runners. To our surprise he was not claimed out of the race, a bonus. We had placed him in a winning spot which at Gulfstream Park usually means the horse is claimed and while that’s part of the game and would have been no problem, obviously off this impressive effort we’re happy to have another shot with him. A happy group of Kenwood owners celebrated Solar’s victory in the winner’s circle including Tony & Gloria Varano, Allen & Beth Katz and Paul Callahan. Congratulations to all the owners of this nice horse, who had posted a 2nd and two 3rds in six starts since claiming him about 6 months ago at Monmouth Park and broke through with an overdue win today after a couple of rough trips. Our active racing group, which is almost sold out now, will be claiming horses much like Solar at Gulfstream and Monmouth as well as looking for private purchases to run all season long at the Monmouth Park meet this year.

  • In entry news Night of Idiots runs tomorrow at Golden Gate Fields in an 11 horse field; everyone entered when a race finally went. It’s been a real problem at Golden Gate getting a race to go for her because several days of racing were cancelled this week, this is not the ideal spot but she fits well here so we are hoping for another top effort to follow up Solar today.
  • And Giuliana Vee gets in next week at Penn National on short rest. She was fine out of her race at Penn National, schooled in the gate this week after breaking slowly and sloppily her last couple of starts, did well and was approved to run. While back on short rest it’s a weak field at the right distance; trainer Mark Salvaggio feels she is doing well and didn’t want to pass this one up.
  • Take a look at the below photos of our beautiful 2yo out of Exchanging Fire for group #56 training at T-Square stud in Ocala. In this case the photos really do speak louder than words. He’s doing absolutely super; looks wonderful, all systems go. Plans are to ship into Monmouth at the end of April to Kelly Breen’s and continue his training there.

Results and entries

  • Giuliana Vee acted up horribly in the gate at Penn National, broke flatfooted between horses and lost all chance at the start tonight, finishing 5th and showing none of her true ability. The gate crew wants to have her school again in the gate before her next start, a sensible move. She was a little edgy in the gate last time too, if we can work with her to address this it will help her be a better horse. Seems ok out of the race.
  • Night of Idiots good, races did not go for her this week at Golden Gate Fields. Here’s a video of her work yesterday, doing great, just wanting for a race for her.

  • Solar good, there’s a race for him Feb. 7th to enter in tomorrow at Gulfstream Park.
  • No Good Deed  had a very nice little maintenance work at Gulfstream Park. There’s a race coming up for her this week also.

For upcoming race dates for your horses, read below and look here.
