Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for September 17, 2020
Horse by Horse News
Two big entries for Sunday at Monmouth Park:
- Life on the Edge will get the test in an allowance event on the grass at Monmouth Park. Leading rider Paco Lopez stays aboard for this one. She drew the rail, which as explained numerous times before is the worst post in general usually and for her in particular, as she runs her best when outside and clear of other horses. It will be up to Paco to figure out a way to get her in the clear and give her a shot. She will need her absolute ‘A’ game to be competitive here, it’s a huge step up facing older allowance runners as opposed to the 3yo-claiming fillies she’s had so much success against this year. She goes into it doing great so if Paco is able to work out a decent trip, it will tell us a lot as to where we will go with her from here.
- And a surprise entry for Fire's Finale for Sunday at Monmouth Park. Steps up in class off the best race of his young career 2 weeks ago. With a short field and nothing else on the horizon for him, we decided to give him a shot in much deeper waters. As with LOTE above, he’ll need his ‘A’ game to be competitive in this one. This is a nice horse who figures to improve as he matures, probably will give him a little time between starts after this one.
- Highwaytwentyseven was entered in a race that did not go for Sunday at Monmouth Park, but was brought back for next week. He’s doing really well and ready to run.
The three horses who ran at Penn National yesterday are all fine out of their races:
- Pango, fine out of a big win, grass is probably done at Penn National for the season in terms of spots for him so may have to look out of town for his next start. Congratulations to trainer Mark Salvaggio, who has done a super job with this horse since he arrived from Florida, and of course to our active racing group #58 for yet another impressive win with another nice horse.
- A fine effort for Rapstorerocks, who stepped up in class for a grass race at Penn National and was a hard-trying 3rd. Should run back in October at Penn National.
- Giuliana Vee, good out of her 4th with no excuse. Even the most consistent horses have an off day (night) and she had one here. When the worst news of the night is a 4th place finish, you know things are going really well.
Other horses…
- Tracy Ann’s Legacy has been nominated for stakes at Monmouth Park and Laurel Park in early October. There is also supposed to be an allowance race in the new Monmouth Park book for her. Continues to do super, should run in one of those spots.
- Adhwaa good out of another excellent work at Monmouth Park, once again fast without being asked for speed. She’s done everything right since her purchase and is on target to make her Kenwood Racing debut around the end of October if all keeps going well, perhaps even a bit sooner. We are really pleased with how this filly is progressing.
- Seven Seven will be pointed for something early in October most likely at Monmouth Park. If he takes another step forward as he did last time (a good 3rd), he’ll have a real shot at the winner’s circle.
- New Found Treasure, excellent out of her recent win at Penn National. She just got up in the final jump by the slimmest of noses in a 3 horse photo at Penn National last week. Treasure has been a model of consistency for us, having been 1st, 3rd, 1st and 2nd in her last four starts. There’s another spot for her at the end of September at Penn National.
- Itsgottabemyway ok off her Kenwood Racing debut in an overflow and very competitive 12 horse field at Monmouth Park. She tried hard, took over the lead briefly approaching the turn, but tired late to finish 6th, beaten 4 lengths for the win while finishing in front of more than half the field. This was a particularly tough spot for the level and the trip was not ideal, she’s a solid filly and with a little better set up next time will be tough to beat. Will likely run towards the end of the month at Monmouth Park.
- Blu Candy training well at Monmouth Park. Hopefully she’ll make her debut later this fall. Galloping strongly and shins ice-cold since returning from the farm last week.
- Lisa Limon & her Liam’s Map foal excellent at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky. Liam’s Map keeps producing major graded stakes winners and is one of the top young sires in North America.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for September 16, 2020
Horse by Horse News
Three horses ran at Penn National this evening and once again it was a terrific night for Kenwood Racing runners…
- First up, a fine effort for Rapstorerocks, who stepped up in class for a grass race at Penn National and was a hard-trying 3rd. Well back early, he got a good trip and rallied nicely. The field was strung out, with the winner well in front of the 2nd horse, the 2nd horse well ahead of Rapstorerocks, and Rapstorerocks well ahead of the rest of the field. He’s an honest horse who usually runs well and did so again here.
- Next up was Pango, who was ready for a top effort off a flying 2nd despite trouble last time out and needing a better trip this time. Trainer Mark Salvaggio got top rider Tyler Connor on him here and Tyler rode an absolutely perfect race to get the win by a flying 3/4 length, coming from dead last. He dropped back from the outside post to save ground for most of the race, rallied in the stretch from far back, switched to the outside to avoid being blocked at the 16th pole and absolutely exploded at the end, flying by most of the field in the final yards to win going away, beating the horse he finished 2nd to by a head last time. Congratulations to trainer Mark Salvaggio, who has done a super job with this horse since he arrived from Florida, and of course to our active racing group #58 for yet another impressive win with another nice horse.
- Finally we had Giuliana Vee, who was coming in off 2 wins and a photo finish 2nd in her last three starts. She was heavily favored here, sat a perfect stalking trip, and just plain didn’t fire tonight, finishing a dull 4th with no excuse. Even the most consistent horses have an off day (night) and she had one here. When the worst news of the night is a 4th place finish, you know things are going really well.
- In other winning news, take a look at this one second video of New Found Treasure, galloping strongly past the wire in Tuesday morning training. She just got up in the final jump by the slimmest of noses in a 3 horse photo at Penn National last week and came out of the race just great. Treasure has been a model of consistency for us, having been 1st, 3rd, 1st and 2nd in her last four starts. There’s another spot for her at the end of September at Penn National.
We had a couple of fine maintenance works Monday at Monmouth Park
- Tracy Ann’s Legacy excellent out of a blowout win at Monmouth Park. She worked well and easily as we look for a spot for her, ready to run anytime. We claimed this filly for just $22,000 on July 19th and less than 6 weeks later she had a win and a 2nd in two allowance events, earning $40,000 for our active racing group.

- Life on the Edge worked great Monday, there are three different spots for her to enter in tomorrow for Sunday at Monmouth Park so we expect she’ll get to run in one of them most likely. She’s already has 2 wins and 2 seconds in 4 starts this season at our home base, earning about $40,000 and running great every time. Congratulations to our historic group #50, this filly has lived up to her billing throughout her fine career and hopefully there’s a lot more to come.

- Seven Seven will be pointed for something early in October most likely at Monmouth Park. If he takes another step forward as he did last time (a good 3rd), he’ll have a real shot at the winner’s circle.
- Fire's Finale will be entered tomorrow for Sunday at Monmouth Park and if that one doesn’t go he’ll point for another spot towards the end of the month. Doing excellent out of a game 2nd by the closest possible nostril at the wire in a long photo (if you look at the photo, he lost by less than ¼ of an inch, any less and it was a dead heat). It was by far the best race of his young career. He’s never run an off race, with a 4th (beaten a nose for 3rd), a 3rd, and two 2nds, earning over $17,000 already in the maiden condition. This is a nice horse who figures to improve as he matures.
- Highwaytwentyseven very well off a very game 2nd, beaten less than half a length for the win at Monmouth Park. This excellent runner has a win and two seconds in three starts for us, all at significantly higher levels than we claimed him for. Should run back at Monmouth Park before the end of the month.
- We were pleased to read the statement of support reprinted below from Monmouth Park CEO Dennis Drazin for the Horse Racing Integrity and Safety Act, which is making its way through Congress and has a real shot to be enacted into law by the end of the year. Nothing is perfect, but this would without question be a ‘game changer’ and a huge step forward for our horses, honest horsemen, and our entire industry.

- Seven Seven is entered tomorrow (Sunday) at Monmouth Park MTO (Main track only) in a turf race, no rain expected so 95%+ chance he does NOT run in here, but feel free to check Equibase tomorrow. Assuming the race stays on the turf, he’ll be entered this week for next weekend at Monmouth Park in a similar spot. If he takes another step forward as he did last time (a good 3rd), he’ll have a real shot at the winner’s circle.
- Fire's Finale excellent out of a game 2nd at Monmouth Park by the closest possible nostril at the wire in a long photo (if you look at the photo, he lost by less than ¼ of an inch, any less and it was a dead heat). It was by far the best race of his young career. He’s never run an off race, with a 4th (beaten a nose for 3rd), a 3rd, and two 2nds, earning over $17,000 already in the maiden condition. This is a nice horse who figures to improve as he matures. He may be entered in the same race as Seven Seven next weekend at Monmouth Park or we may give him a little more time and point for a spot towards the end of the month.
- Life on the Edge was also entered for this Sunday at Monmouth Park and her race did not go. There are three different spots for her next weekend at Monmouth Park, and in her case having run a lot this summer an extra week off will probably help her. She’s already has 2 wins and 2 seconds in 4 starts this season at our home base, earning about $40,000 and running great every time. Congratulations to our historic group #50, this filly has lived up to her billing throughout her fine career and hopefully there’s a lot more to come.
- The wins just keep coming, with yet another thrilling photo finish going to the hard-trying filly New Found Treasure, who just got up in the final jump by the slimmest of noses in a 3 horse photo at Penn National this week and came out of the race just great. New Found Treasure has been a model of consistency for us, having been 1st, 3rd, 1st and 2nd in her last four starts. There’s another spot for her at the end of September at Penn National.
Three horses entered at Penn National on Wednesday:
- Rapstorerocks very sharp and steps up in class for a grass race at Penn National. That’s his best surface, so we’re hopeful he can handle the raise in class. Here’s a photo of him in the shedrow this morning from trainer Mark Salvaggio (attached).
- Pango well and will be entered this week at Penn National. Comes off a flying 2nd, beaten a head for the win. Here’s a photo of him enjoying the sunrise outside on the walker from trainer Mark Salvaggio.
- Giuliana Vee comes off 2 wins and a photo finish 2nd in her last three starts and will be entered this week also at Penn National. Trainer Mark Salvaggio took the photo of her looking out of her stall at Penn National this weekend, happy and healthy.
- In other horse news, Highwaytwentyseven very well off a very game 2nd, beaten less than half a length for the win at Monmouth Park. This excellent runner has a win and two seconds in three starts for us, all at significantly higher levels than we claimed him for. Should run back at Monmouth before the end of the month.
- Itsgottabemyway ok off her Kenwood Racing debut in an overflow and very competitive 12 horse field at Monmouth Park. She tried hard, took over the lead briefly approaching the turn, but tired late to finish 6th, beaten 4 lengths for the win, while finishing in front of more than half the field. This was a particularly tough spot for the level and the trip was not ideal, she’s a solid filly and with a little better set up next time will be tough to beat.
- Blu Candy training well at Monmouth Park. Hopefully she’ll make her debut later this fall. So far perfect since returning from the farm last week.
- Tracy Ann’s Legacy excellent out of a blowout win at Monmouth Park, went right to the front in a speed laden race and never looked back, widening with every step to win by seven lengths under a great ride by Jose Ferrer for his 4500th career win. We claimed this filly for just $22,000 last month on July 19th and less than 6 weeks later she had a win and a 2nd in two allowance events, earning $40,000 for our active racing group. We are looking at spots for her later this month or early in October at Monmouth Park
- No Good Deed is at Penn National and doing well. Will point for something at Penn later this month.
- Lisa Limon & her Liam’s Map foal excellent at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky. Liam’s Map keeps producing major graded stakes winners and is one of the top young sires in North America.

Horse by Horse News
- The wins just keep coming, with yet another thrilling photo finish going to the hard-trying filly New Found Treasure, who just got up in the final jump by the slimmest of noses in a 3 horse photo at Penn National this evening. She was literally a nostril in front of the 2nd horse and a nose ahead of the 3rd horse, kind of making up for the nostril 2nd for Fire’s Finale at Monmouth Park Monday. It was the usual full field and a highly competitive group but she came into it doing really well, got a great ride and just made it up in time. New Found Treasure has been a model of consistency for us, having been 1st, 3rd, 1st and 2nd in her last four starts.
More good news as we entered three horses today at Penn National for next Wednesday and all three races went as follows:

- Seven Seven very good out of a nice maintenance workout at Monmouth Park. Will be entered Thursday for a race this Sunday at Monmouth Park, or next week for a similar spot the following weekend at Monmouth Park. If he takes another step forward as he did last time (a good 3rd), he’ll have a real shot at the winner’s circle.
- Life on the Edge will also be entered Thursday for Sunday at Monmouth Park or next week for a similar spot the following weekend at Monmouth Park. She’s already has 2 wins and 2 seconds in 4 starts this season at our home base, earning about $40,000 and running great every time. Congratulations to our historic group #50, this filly has lived up to her billing throughout her fine career and hopefully there’s a lot more to come.
- Adhwaa good out of another excellent work at Monmouth Park, fast without being asked for speed. She’s done everything right since her purchase and is on target to make her Kenwood Racing debut around the end of next month. Will work again this week(end).
- Blu Candy shipped into Monmouth Park from Sunset Meadow farm Sunday. Kelly Breen sent this photo of her back in her stall and she has resumed training. Nice to have her back at Monmouth Park. If all goes well, she’ll make her debut later this fall.
- Tracy Ann’s Legacy excellent out of a blowout win, went right to the front in a speed laden race and never looked back, widening with every step to win by seven lengths under a great ride by Jose Ferrer for his 4500th career win at Monmouth Park. - No Good Deed is at Penn National and being evaluated by our vet team. Doing well, see photo of her on walker Sunday morning (“ice cold legs”, Mark Salvaggio). Will point for something at Penn National later this month.
- Lisa Limon & her Liam’s Map foal excellent at the farm in Kentucky. Some great news with Liam’s Map, as his 3 year old Rushie won the Grade II Pat Day Mile at Churchill Downs on Derby day to stamp himself as one of the top three year olds in the country. This following a very game 2nd Thursday at Churchill by Crazy Beautiful in the Grade III Pocahontas Stakes despite a horrible trip. Liam’s Map keeps producing major graded stakes winners and is one of the top young sires in North America.

- Congratulations to all the connections of Kentucky Derby winner Authentic, and to the connections of favorite Tiz The Law, who ran a game second. If you want to know just how much this is a game of ups and downs, consider the connections of the Derby winner experienced the incredible low just minutes earlier of seeing their other Derby entrant, Thousand Words, flip in the paddock, break the assistant trainer’s hand, and have to be scratched. Fifteen minutes later, they were standing in the winner’s circle. That’s why people say there’s one way to win a race and a hundred ways to lose a race, and why we say no horse IS running until the moment the gates open (even then shit can happen, we’ve seen horses refuse to come out of the gate!).

A big Labor Day at Monmouth Park with three entries and more good results….
- First up Fire's Finale had been doing so well out of a hard-trying 4th (beaten a nose for 3rd) at Laurel Park last week that we entered him off short rest and he ran an absolutely huge race in race 3 at Monmouth Park, losing by the closest possible nostril at the wire in a long photo (if you look at the photo, he lost by less than ¼ of an inch, any less and it was a dead heat). No excuses for him at all; broke well, got a good ride and a good trip and ran absolutely lights out. In fairness, the winner was a first time starter who acted up at the gate, refused to load, broke last, came with a huge run and probably deserved the win but it was a heartbreaking way for us to lose. That said, it was by far the best race of Fire’s Finale’s young career. He’s never run an off race, with a 4th (beaten a nose for 3rd), a 3rd, a well beaten but solid 2nd, and missing by less than an eyelash today, all while earning over $17,000 already in the maiden condition. This is a nice horse who figures to improve as he matures. If we can get a race for him in Pennsylvania against state breds, he’ll be tough to beat for a big purse but he’s run well at three different tracks now and is sitting on a win wherever he lands next time.
- Next up, we had Highwaytwentyseven with a tough inside post position and the post cost him, as he was forced into a horrendous head to head speed duel from the get go but showed tremendous heart, refusing to quit despite a blindingly fast opening ¼, to finish a very game 2nd in race 5 at Monmouth Park. He was beaten less than half a length for the win while just holding off the 3rd runner by an equal margin. It was a blanket finish, with less than 3 lengths separating the top 5 horses. Turning for home he had lost the lead and looked like he was going to finish off the board, but this horse has shown tremendous heart in every race for us and he re-broke to get back in front in mid-stretch and fall just short of the win. As trainer Kelly Breen put it “the post beat us, if he’d been able to sit 2nd from the outside he was a winner”. This excellent runner has a win and two seconds in three starts for us, all at significantly higher levels than we claimed him for.
- Finally Itsgottabemyway made her Kenwood Racing debut in an overflow and very competitive 12 horse field (as usual on the turf) in race 6 at Monmouth Park. Races like this usually come down to who gets the best trip and she didn’t. The pace was very slow and she found herself far closer to the lead than how she usually runs. All that said, she tried hard, took over the lead briefly approaching the turn, but tired late to finish 6th. She was beaten just under 4 lengths for the win while beating more than half the field. This was a particularly tough spot for the level and the trip was not ideal, she’s a solid filly and with a little better set up next time will be tough to beat.
Overall another very solid day-weekend for us, congratulations to all the owners on our continued success as Kenwood Racing remains on the leading owners list at Monmouth for the entire meet with 4 wins and 7 seconds from twelve starts, along with Kelly Breen at the top of the leading trainers list in no small part due to his fantastic work with Kenwood runners. We hope to add to these totals before the main meet ends September 27th and to continue our success during the ‘Meadowlands at Monmouth’ meet in October!

Other runners…
- New Found Treasure runs Wednesday at Penn National. The usual full field and a highly competitive group but she’s doing really well. Ready for another good effort; a similar field to the ones where she’s been 3rd, 1st and 2nd in her last 3 starts.
- Good news with Blu Candy, who shipped into Monmouth Park from Sunset Meadow Farm on Sunday. Kelly Breen sent this photo of her back in her stall and ready to resume training this week and noted “hard to believe, but I think she’s grown in the last 4 weeks. The R&R did her good, she looks great”. This lovely filly is obviously the picture of health and clearly enjoyed her brief time at Sunset Meadow Farm. Nice to have her back at Monmouth Park. If all goes well, she’ll make her debut later this fall.
We have three entries coming up this week at Penn National, all of these horses have been running great and are doing really well….
- Rapstorerocks very sharp. There’s a grass race for him to enter in this week at Penn National. Here’s a photo of him in the shedrow this morning from trainer Mark Salvaggio.
- No Good Deed is at Penn National and being evaluated by our vet team. Doing well, see photo of her on walker Sunday morning (“ice cold legs”, Mark Salvaggio).
- Life on the Edge is our leading runner at Monmouth Park, with 2 wins and 2 seconds in her 4 starts this season at our home base, earning about $40,000 and running great every time. What a nice filly! Congratulations to our historic group #50, this filly has lived up to her billing throughout her fine career and hopefully the best is yet to come. Look for her to try to add to her totals shortly at Monmouth Park.
- Tracy Ann’s Legacy excellent out of a blowout win, went right to the front in a speed laden race and never looked back, widening with every step to win by seven lengths under a great ride by Jose Ferrer for his 4500th career win at Monmouth Park. We claimed this filly for just $22,000 last month on July 19th and less than 6 weeks later she had a win and a 2nd in two allowance events, earning $40,000 for our active racing group. We are looking at spots for her later this month or early in October at Monmouth Park.
- Lisa Limon & her Liam’s Map foal excellent at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky.

Horse by Horse News
Another big weekend ahead! We had three entries today at Monmouth Park for next Monday (Labor Day) and by good fortune, all three went….
- Fire's Finale has been doing so well out of a hard-trying 4th (beaten a nose for 3rd) at Laurel Park last week that we entered him today on short rest at Monmouth and the race went with a nice 7 horse field. A bit shorter distance than he wants but the right level. If he can handle the short turnaround will be very competitive in here.
- Highwaytwentyseven doing very well, has a win and a second in two starts for us, both at significantly higher levels than we claimed him for. We entered in an extra today and it went with a nice 6 horse field. It’s another step up the ladder, will be a challenge for him, but he’s merits a shot at this level based on his last two races.
- Itsgottabemyway gets in an overflow field (as usual on the turf) of 13 horses. The level and distance and post are all fine. Races like this usually come down to who gets the best trip. She’s trained really well for this and is ready for her Kenwood debut.
We have seating for all our owners at Monmouth Park. It’s been a very exciting summer, with every horse running well in every start. We welcome and encourage owners to come out and watch your horses run. Remember by state law no owners have access to the paddock and winner’s circle this year but as anyone who has attended the races this season will tell you, it’s been a great experience celebrating all the wins together nonetheless. Please email George@kenwoodracing.com if you have any questions regarding seating, admissions, etc.
- New Found Treasure was entered at Penn National. The race went and this time she got in, runs Sept. 9th. The usual full field and a highly competitive group but she’s doing really well. Ready for another good effort in a similar spot to where she’s been 3rd, 1st and 2nd in her last 3 starts.
- Blu Candy is ready to return from a very brief stay at the Sunset Meadow Farm, will ship into Monmouth Park shortly to resume training. Jeanne Vuyosevich at Sunset Meadow Farm sent along these great photos. This lovely filly is obviously the picture of health and clearly is enjoying her brief bit of R&R. Will be nice to have her back at Monmouth Park.
We have three entries coming up next week at Penn National, all of these horses have been running great and are doing really well….
- Rapstorerocks very sharp. There’s a grass race for him to enter in next week.
- Pango well and will be entered next week at Penn. Comes off a flying 2nd, beaten a head for the win.
- Giuliana Vee comes off 2 wins and a photo finish 2nd in her last three starts and will be entered next week at Penn National. Here’s a photo trainer Mark Salvaggio took of her looking out of her stall this morning
Other runners…
- Adhwaa well out of her first timed work at Monmouth Park and will work again this weekend.
- Seven Seven excellent off a very solid 3rd at Saratoga. Pointing for one of two races at Monmouth Park in September.
- No Good Deed is back at Penn National and being evaluated by our vet team. Walked fine yesterday and this morning.
Kenwood Racing on the leading owners list at Monmouth Park for the entire meet! 4 wins and 5 seconds from nine starts. Not a single horse worse than 2nd for two months of racing at Monmouth, along with Kelly Breen at the top of the leading trainers list in no small part due to his fantastic work with Kenwood runners. We hope to add to these totals before the main meet ends September 27th, and to continue our success during the ‘Meadowlands at Monmouth’ meet in October!
It was another amazing day at Monmouth Park last Saturday. Great to see so many co-owners coming out to the track and seeing everyone excited. Take a look at video links to races for Tracy Ann’s Legacy and Life On the Edge just below. The Tracy Ann’s Legacy video is awesome because you can hear Jose Ferrer's wife, Steffi and their two kids screaming and cheering.
- Life on the Edge is our leading runner at Monmouth Park with 2 wins and 2 seconds in her 4 starts this season at our home base, earning about $40,000 and running great every time. What a nice filly! Congratulations to our historic group #50, this filly has lived up to her billing throughout her fine career and hopefully the best is yet to come. Look for her to try to add to her totals this month at Monmouth Park.

- Tracy Ann’s Legacy excellent out of a blowout win at Monmouth Park, went right to the front in a speed laden race and never looked back, widening with every step to win by seven lengths under a great ride by Jose Ferrer for his 4500th career win. You may recall when Life On the Edge won by a nose a couple of weeks ago it was trainer Kelly Breen’s 800th career win, so we’ve had the pleasure of celebrating some real milestones with great people. As for Tracy Ann, she’s actually a better turf horse but she is lightening quick and clearly can run on the dirt too. This filly was claimed for just $22,000 last month on July 19th and less than 6 weeks later has a win and a 2nd in two allowance events and has earned $40,000 for our active racing group. We are looking at spots for her later this month or early in October at Monmouth Park.

- Another article from the DRF this morning, Some resistance, questions remain despite McConnell's support of federal horse racing legislation This very clearly outlines the structure (a truly independent regulatory board) and the kind of changes the proposed legislation would bring about. If it passes, this could be a historic game-changer for our entire industry. Nothing is perfect, but this would be a huge step in the right direction to protect horses, riders and the integrity of the game.

- No Good Deed was scratched during the post parade today at Delaware Park. She’s been training great, not sure what the problem was, if any. Will ship her back to Penn National and evaluate her but does not appear to be anything serious.

If not we’ll look for a race for him at Monmouth or Delaware for his next start.
- Giuliana Vee well out of her win at Penn National. She’s now had 2 wins and a photo finish 2nd in her last three starts and while not big enough to compete at higher levels, you have to love her grit and determination. Congratulations to her owners on another winning race!

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for August 29, 2020
Horse by Horse News
Three huge entries today for Kenwood Racing at two tracks. When the dust cleared all 3 races came off the turf, all three horses ran, and we had another spectacular day!
- First up was a surprise entry Saturday for Life on the Edge at Monmouth Park. She came out sound and well off her second win in a row at Monmouth Park and trainer Kelly Breen decided to take a look at a handicap race with a large purse. Leading rider Paco Lopez stayed aboard against by far the toughest field she’d ever faced and the longest distance she’d ever run (1&1/8 miles) and she ran an absolutely fantastic race, leading from the start until the final jump, beaten a nostril right at the wire in another super close photo. It was almost an exact repeat of the race two weeks ago when she held on to win by a nostril, this time the nod went the other way, but she truly could not have had a better trip-ride or run any better. Life on the Edge has now had 2 wins and 2 seconds in her 4 starts at Monmouth this year, earning about $40,000 and running great every time, The good news is, she showed today she could compete against really solid older allowance horses, even at a longer distance than what she preferred off short rest. What a nice filly, congratulations to our historic group #50, this filly has lived up to her billing throughout her fine career and hopefully the best is yet to come.
- Then Fire's Finale was entered for Saturday at Laurel Park, MTO (main track only). With rain predicted last night, we took a chance and shipped him down early this morning. For some crazy reason nobody could comprehend they refused to take the races off the turf despite pouring rain and a sloppy track until they ran the 2nd race on the turf and the riders insisted on taking the rest of the races off turf, letting us scratch in at the last minute. It was still a very tough spot but he too got a fine trip sitting just off the pace in 3rd early, making a bold move at the top of the stretch to poke his nose in front, and then tiring late to finish 4th, beaten a nose for 3rd in a photo. It was not a bad effort and the race was a textbook example of the difference the class level makes as we explain so frequently. His 2nd and 3rd at upper level claiming was good enough to get him 4th in a maiden allowance race. He looks like a very solid runner and if we can get a Pa. Bred race for him next time off three good efforts would be very tough in there.
- Finally, Tracy Ann’s Legacy ran for a big purse at Monmouth Park on Saturday. It came off the grass, just as it did last time when she was a good 2nd in her Kenwood Racing debut. This time in a very competitive allowance event reduced to a short field by rain she went right to the front in a speed laden race and never looked back, widening with every step to win by seven+ lengths, going away under a great ride by veteran rider Jose Ferrer for his 4500th career win. You may recall when Life On the Edge won by a nose a couple of weeks ago it was trainer Kelly Breen’s 800th career win, so we’ve had the pleasure of celebrating some real milestones with great people. As for Tracy Ann, she’s actually a much better turf horse but she is lightening quick and clearly can run on the dirt too. This filly was claimed for just $22,000 last month on July 19th and less than 6 weeks later has a win and a 2nd in two allowance events and has earned $40,000 for our active racing group.
Overall, this was another spectacular day for Kenwood Racing runners, we were 2 noses away from 2 wins and a 3rd but still had a blowout win, a fantastic 2nd, and a very solid 4th, picking up over $40,000 for the day to close out an amazing month on a winning note. Kenwood Racing is on the leading owners list at Monmouth Park and every single one of our runners at Monmouth Park for the entire meet has either been 1st or 2nd.
- In entry news, No Good Deed was entered for a race on Sept. 4th that did not go at Penn National, so we entered her for a race at Delaware Park next Wednesday and it went. Doing well, ready to run.
Updated possible entry dates for all your horses as usual can be found here.
- Adhwaa had her first timed work at Monmouth Park yesterday and went absolutely great. The owners will love seeing she had the fastest work of the day, which in truth means nothing, any horse can work 3f in 37 seconds. What makes us happy is the way she moved, how easily she worked, and the fact she came back sound and well and was not tired at all after the move. You can see a video here. Off of this she’s on her way and should start at Monmouth Park this fall.

- New Found Treasure did not make it in off the also eligible list for Friday, she’s on the also eligible list at Delaware Park on Monday but is not expected to run there either. Looking at a spot for her at Penn National in about 10 days.
- Rapstorerocks fine out of his race at Penn National, should run back in about 2 more weeks.
- Seven Seven excellent off a very solid race and a nice step forward at Saratoga. We felt from the start this horse was bred and had the conformation to be best at classic distances and get better with age. Off this race, we have reason to feel pretty good about his future prospects, especially as a New York bred running for enhanced purses.
- Pango well off a flying 2nd, beaten a head for the win and 2 noses ahead of the 3rd and 4th horses in yet another blanket finish at Penn National. One step further and he was the going away winner here. It was a very game effort for a horse that is clearly rounding into form and clearly moves up on the grass. He’ll be entered for a race at Penn coming up in about 10 days
- Giuliana Vee well out of her win at Penn National. She’s now had 2 wins and a photo finish 2nd in her last three starts and while not big enough to compete at higher levels, you have to love her grit and determination. Congratulations to her owners on another winning race!
- Itsgottabemyway doing great, look for her to make her Kenwood Racing debut next month, there’s a race Sept. 7th we are pointing for.
- Highwaytwentyseven doing very well at Monmouth Park, has a win and a second now in two starts for us since being claimed, both at significantly higher levels than we claimed him for. Will look for a race for him next month.
- Blu Candy well at the farm. Expect her to return to training at Monmouth Park in September.
- Lisa Limon & foal excellentat Hidden Brook Farm.

- If you look at the attached, you’ll see Kenwood Racing listed among the leading owners at Monmouth for the entire meet through Aug. 16th, with 50% wins and 100% in-the-money, along with Kelly Breen at the top of the leading trainers list (in no small part due to his fantastic work with Kenwood Racing runners). With all our horses doing really well, we hope to add significantly to these totals before the meet ends. Overall, we had ten wins, eight seconds and two thirds from twenty four starts in July and August. When you are hitting at 45% win and 85% in-the-money for two months, a lot of things are obviously going right. This has sure been one amazing summer and there’s more to come!
- Racing at Monmouth Park will be extended into October with a “Meadowlands at Monmouth meet, a great chance to add to our starts and wins at our home track!

- Rapstorerocks ran at Penn National this evening looking for his 3rd win in a row, got into a head to head battle right from the start, tried every step of the way but tired a little at the end to finish 4th. It was the right distance, right level, same winning rider and the race thus offers a great education in terms of how much ‘conditions’ matter. Note he was the distant 3rd choice in the morning line and 3rd choice in the wagering, despite coming off a win in his last race at the exact same distance - claiming price and the two horses listed with lower odds both having lost their last races. How could that be? This was a tougher group than he’d ever faced; non-winners of three are better horses than non-winners of two or maidens (the races he won and is no longer eligible for). Same thing goes for other young horses like Giuliana Vee, No Good Deed, etc. Until they show they can win against ‘open company’ (non-restricted races) they must face increasingly tougher horses, even at the same claiming level, every time they win. As horses win races they face tougher and tougher competition and the majority are ‘weeded out’ i.e. have to drop down to lower levels and/or can’t win and are retired. He ran well enough here to think he will be able to win this condition eventually but the water is deeper now.
Another BIG weekend, four horses at three tracks, but weather – scratch dependent, read below!
- Great photo of New Found Treasure training at Penn National. She’s entered on the also eligible list for Friday, needs one scratch to run. Assuming she does get in, open company races on grass are almost always incredibly competitive so won’t be easy, but as well as she’s been running recently she should be very competitive here. We are looking at alternate options for her too.
- Tracy Ann’s Legacy’s race went, she’s scheduled to run in a big field for a big purse at Monmouth Park Saturday in an exceptionally tough spot. Would need everything to go right to get the money but training really well. If it comes off the grass she’ll run, just as she did last time when she was a good 2nd in her Kenwood debut. She’s a much better turf horse but that’s true of most of the others in the race and on dirt it would be a much smaller field.
- A surprise entry Saturday for Life on the Edge. She came out sound and well off her second win in a row at Monmouth Park and trainer Kelly Breen decided to take a look at a handicap race with a large purse. Leading rider Paco Lopez stays aboard. It would be by far the toughest level she’s ever faced and the longest distance she’s ever run (1&1/8 miles) but with heavy rain predicted for Saturday from an oncoming storm, it could well scratch down to a much smaller field. On the dirt her chances would move up as she’s proven on both turf and dirt and a lot of these are clearly turf runners. If we don’t like the spot we can scratch and look for one of several alternate spots in September. Check entries Saturday morning, as of now she’s running.
- Fire's Finale had an exceptionally good workout Sunday morning at Monmouth Park, see video and work below. Went in company with an older horse, stayed with him easily the entire way, good time and galloped out strongly too. Kelly feels it was his best work by far since arriving at Monmouth Park. He was entered for Saturday at Laurel Park, MTO (main track only). If and ONLY IF the race comes off the grass early enough to ship him from New Jersey-Maryland, he’ll run. Hard to get races to go at a distance for two year olds, especially this early in the season, if he does run it would be the distance we want. Your horse is precocious, most two year olds aren’t ready to go long yet. We may have to come back short again if he doesn’t run here, we’re looking at options now at 5 different tracks, he’s ready to run and doing super! The longer they go, the better he’s going to be we think, but horses bred to go classic distances require even more patience. With luck and time some of them (not all) end up to be worth it

General News
- Thanks to everyone who attended our Seminar on “Purses & Claiming” Thursday night for another well-attended and successful online event!
- As everyone knows, Kenwood Racing’s record has been nothing short of phenomenal this summer with nine wins, seven seconds and two thirds from twenty one starts in July and August, including three wins and four seconds from seven starts at our home base of Monmouth Park. When you are hitting at 45% win and 90% in-the-money for two months, a lot of things are obviously going right. Congratulations to all our owners on your many successes with; Life On the Edge two wins in a row! Highwaytwentyseven, a going away 5+ length win in his Kenwood Racing debut and a game 2nd. Two wins in a row for Rapstorerocks at Penn National, including a head bob thriller in a 3 horse photo in his last, an easy win for No Good Deed, New Found Treasure 2nd, 1st and 3rd in her last three starts, two wins and a photo finish 2nd for Giuliana Vee in her last three starts, a very game 2nd in her Kenwood Racing debut for Tracy Ann’s Legacy, a very game flying finish 2nd for Pango, an improving 3rd in a maiden special weight at Saratoga for Seven Seven and more to come!
Horse by Horse News
Another action filled day Friday with three horses running at two tracks and another terrific day for Kenwood Racing runners. As easy as 3, 2, 1 today!
- First up we had Seven Seven in a favorable spot at Saratoga (see photos taken by Kelly Breen). As explained previously, experience makes a huge difference with young horses. In his debut, the only two horses with a race under their hooves ran 1-2, while he had a very rough trip, finishing 5th. This time he was the only horse in the race with a previous start (and accordingly was heavily bet down from his morning line 5 to 1 odds to the strong 2 to 1 second choice). He broke in and bumped at the start and was near the back of the pack in the early going, was wide for much of the race (see attached official chart), but commenced a solid run on the far turn and kept it up in the stretch to finish a much improved 3rd, well back of the top two and well ahead of the rest of the field. Jockey Luis Saez said he got a ton of dirt in his face in the early going after the bad break and wasn’t comfortable at first, but once in the clear he was really running at the end and would absolutely improve going two turns. Particularly considering he was coming back on short rest it was a very solid race and a nice step forward. We felt from the start this horse was bred and had the conformation to be best at classic distances and get better with age. Off this race, we have reason to feel pretty good about his future prospects, especially as a New York bred running for enhanced purses.
A few hours later both horses at Penn National made it into the races off the also eligible list.
- First up was Pango running in a super tough spot (as almost all races are for open company turf runners). Last time in a similar spot he had a rough trip, flew late, and ended up 4th, beaten 1 length for the win. This time he got a good break and a clean trip from the outside, was floated 5 wide on the turn and appeared hopelessly beaten inside the 1-16th pole, only to come with an absolutely incredible closing rush to get 2nd, beaten a head for the win and 2 noses ahead of the 3rd and 4th horses in yet another blanket finish. One step further and he was the going away winner here. It was a very game effort for a horse that is clearly rounding into form and clearly moves up on the grass. They don’t write turf sprints at longer distances at Penn; you hate to take him off a course he clearly likes but we might look at a race at a track with a 5&1/2 or 6 furlong turf race next time. Congratulations to active racing group #58, all three of your horses are running just great!
- Then to end a busy day Giuliana Vee scratched into what was frankly a dream spot. The two main competitors scratched out of the race, she got an ideal outside post, and had the same rider on her back as she did when she broke her maiden last month so not surprisingly she was the overwhelming 1 to 5 favorite. That said, they still have to run the race, or as the old saying goes, ‘there’s 100 ways to lose a race and 1 way to win it’. Sure enough, it wasn’t easy as despite a good ride and a good trip, she was all out to run down the early leader in the final strides to win by a head. This is a undersized filly who outpunches her weight and gives it her all every time. She’s now had 2 wins and a photo finish 2nd in her last three starts and while not big enough to compete at higher levels, you have to love her grit and determination. Congratulations to her owners on another winning race!
Entries….
- Take a look at a great photo Mark Salvaggio took of New Found Treasure training Friday morning at Penn National. She was entered for the same spot at Penn National where she’s been 3rd, 1st and 2nd in her last three starts and the race went but she too got on the also eligible list, needs one scratch to run. As with Pango and Giuliana, we will know on race day, next Friday. Assuming she does get in, as with Pango, open company races on grass are almost always full fields and incredibly competitive so won’t be easy, but as well as she’s been running recently she should be very competitive here again.
- Rapstorerocks runs next week looking for his 3rd win in a row at Penn National. Right distance, right level, same winning rider. Of course it’s a tougher group than he’s ever faced (non-winners of three are a lot better horses than non-winners of two or maidens!) but he figures to run really well again here.
- Fire's Finale was entered for Sunday at Monmouth Park and race did not come close to going. Hard to get races to go at a distance for two year olds, especially this early in the season. Your horse is precocious, most two year olds aren’t ready to go long yet. We may have to come back short again, will keep looking for options, he’s ready to run and doing well.
- Tracy Ann’s Legacy will be entered Sunday for an allowance event on the grass next week at Monmouth Park. This is a very nice filly and looks like an excellent claim for our active racing group #58, should be lots of good times ahead with her.
Other horses…
- Itsgottabemyway doing great, look for her to make her Kenwood Racing debut next month at Monmouth Park.
- No Good Deed much better now. Was a little body sore out of a rough trip last time when 4th at Penn National but Mark Salvaggio gave her a little time and says she’s bounced back just fine now. Should be able to run next month.
- Highwaytwentyseven doing very well, has a win and a second now in two starts for us at Monmouth Park since being claimed, both at significantly higher levels than we claimed him for. Will look for a race for him next month.
- Life on the Edge sound and well off her second win in a row at Monmouth Park. Look for her in a similar spot in September.
- Adhwaa training well at Monmouth Park, no issues. Will breeze soon.
- Blu Candy well at the farm. Expect her to return to training at Monmouth Park in September.
This has sure been one amazing summer and there’s more to come!
- Lisa Limon and her Liam’s Map foal well at Hidden Brook Farm in Ky. Hard to find a better looking horse. Our Liam’s Map – Lisa Limon foal should be a very popular commodity when we sell him as a yearling next year.
