Horse by Horse News

Three horses ran at Penn National this evening and once again it was a terrific night for Kenwood Racing runners…

  • First up, a fine effort for Rapstorerocks, who stepped up in class for a grass race at Penn National and was a hard-trying 3rd. Well back early, he got a good trip and rallied nicely. The field was strung out, with the winner well in front of the 2nd horse, the 2nd horse well ahead of Rapstorerocks, and Rapstorerocks well ahead of the rest of the field. He’s an honest horse who usually runs well and did so again here.
  • Next up was Pango, who was ready for a top effort off a flying 2nd despite trouble last time out and needing a better trip this time. Trainer Mark Salvaggio got top rider Tyler Connor on him here and Tyler rode an absolutely perfect race to get the win by a flying 3/4 length, coming from dead last. He dropped back from the outside post to save ground for most of the race, rallied in the stretch from far back, switched to the outside to avoid being blocked at the 16th pole and absolutely exploded at the end, flying by most of the field in the final yards to win going away, beating the horse he finished 2nd to by a head last time. Congratulations to trainer Mark Salvaggio, who has done a super job with this horse since he arrived from Florida, and of course to our active racing group #58 for yet another impressive win with another nice horse.
  • Finally we had Giuliana Vee, who was coming in off 2 wins and a photo finish 2nd in her last three starts. She was heavily favored here, sat a perfect stalking trip, and just plain didn’t fire tonight, finishing a dull 4th with no excuse. Even the most consistent horses have an off day (night) and she had one here.  When the worst news of the night is a 4th place finish, you know things are going really well.

  • In other winning news, take a look at this one second video of New Found Treasure, galloping strongly past the wire in Tuesday morning training. She just got up in the final jump by the slimmest of noses in a 3 horse photo at Penn National last week and came out of the race just great. Treasure has been a model of consistency for us, having been 1st, 3rd, 1st and 2nd in her last four starts. There’s another spot for her at the end of September at Penn National.

We had a couple of fine maintenance works Monday at Monmouth Park

  • Tracy Ann’s Legacy excellent out of a blowout win at Monmouth Park. She worked well and easily as we look for a spot for her, ready to run anytime. We claimed this filly for just $22,000 on July 19th and less than 6 weeks later she had a win and a 2nd in two allowance events, earning $40,000 for our active racing group.

  • Life on the Edge worked great Monday, there are three different spots for her to enter in tomorrow for Sunday at Monmouth Park so we expect she’ll get to run in one of them most likely. She’s already has 2 wins and 2 seconds in 4 starts this season at our home base, earning about $40,000 and running great every time. Congratulations to our historic group #50, this filly has lived up to her billing throughout her fine career and hopefully there’s a lot more to come.

  • Adhwaa good out of another excellent work at Monmouth Park, once again fast without being asked for speed. She’s done everything right since her purchase and is on target to make her Kenwood Racing debut around the end of October if all keeps going well, perhaps even a bit sooner. We are really pleased with how this filly is progressing.

  • Seven Seven will be pointed for something early in October most likely at Monmouth Park. If he takes another step forward as he did last time (a good 3rd), he’ll have a real shot at the winner’s circle.
  • Fire's Finale  will be entered tomorrow for Sunday at Monmouth Park and if that one doesn’t go he’ll point for another spot towards the end of the month. Doing excellent out of a game 2nd by the closest possible nostril at the wire in a long photo (if you look at the photo, he lost by less than ¼ of an inch, any less and it was a dead heat). It was by far the best race of his young career. He’s never run an off race, with a 4th (beaten a nose for 3rd), a 3rd, and two 2nds, earning over $17,000 already in the maiden condition. This is a nice horse who figures to improve as he matures.
  • Highwaytwentyseven very well off a very game 2nd, beaten less than half a length for the win at Monmouth Park. This excellent runner has a win and two seconds in three starts for us, all at significantly higher levels than we claimed him for. Should run back at Monmouth Park before the end of the month.
  • Itsgottabemyway ok off her Kenwood Racing debut in an overflow and very competitive 12 horse field at Monmouth Park. She tried hard, took over the lead briefly approaching the turn, but tired late to finish 6th, beaten 4 lengths for the win while finishing in front of more than half the field. This was a particularly tough spot for the level and the trip was not ideal, she’s a solid filly and with a little better set up next time will be tough to beat. Will likely run towards the end of the month at Monmouth Park.
  • Blu Candy training well at Monmouth Park. Hopefully she’ll make her debut later this fall. Galloping strongly and shins ice-cold since returning from the farm last week.
  • Lisa Limon & her Liam’s Map foal excellent at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky. Liam’s Map keeps producing major graded stakes winners and is one of the top young sires in North America.
