Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for August 10, 2019

Another big entry & works

  • Starring John Wain runs Thursday at Del Mar, race went with a nice short field and the horse is training really well. Had another fine work today (below). As good as we can get him for this allowance test
  • More Ice gets in an allowance at Del Mar tomorrow, doing excellent.

Details at www.kenwoodracing.com or on www.equibase.com for both of the above entries. Any owner wishing to attend please contact George@kenwoodracing.com for assistance with seating-dining-admissions, etc.

  • New Found Treasure will be entered tomorrow in an extra for next Friday at Monmouth Park.
  • Works today (below) at Monmouth for several horses including Solar (excellent maintenance work), Start A Fire (fine but didn’t show as much zip as we’d have liked), and Rapstorerocks and Smarty Cat (went well together, 6 furlongs really slow, picking it up in the stretch nicely (works not recorded but very solid moves).  Smarty Cat might run in a spot on the 23rd of Aug. at Monmouth or shortly thereafter, maybe another week or so for Rapstorerocks.
  • Life On the Edge excellent out of her impressive win and looking at allowance or stake company for her next start.

Big win for Life On the Edge, many workouts & training videos

  • Competitive Edge filly Life On the Edge was placed in the right spot at Monmouth Park for her 2nd career start and won easily and impressively as the heavy favorite under Paco Lopez; going right to the lead at the start, repelling a bid from two horses on the turn, and drawing away in the stretch to win by 5 widening lengths under wraps.

She galloped out 15+ lengths ahead of the field and returned to the winner’s circle to get her photo taken with a very large crowd of Kenwood owners & their friends.

A hearty congratulations to the members of our milestone group #50 on the debut win for a very talented filly. Enjoy this great Vimeo clip of her saddling in the paddock before the race and returning to the winner’s circle afterwards

After a slow start to the meet, we have now had a 3rd, a 2nd and a win in our last three starts at Monmouth Park. This is a business of hot and cold streaks; savvy owners understand that and are in it for the long run. It’s days like these that make the game worth playing; congratulations to trainer Kelly Breen and his hardworking team and all the members of the Kenwood Racing family who were on hand at Monmouth or watching and enjoying from afar.

  • Into Mishief filly Giuliana Vee doing super at Monmouth Park, trained great every day this week after a nice break at the farm

Folks, they are raceHORSES not racecars, they all develop at their own pace. Life On the Edge had a meltdown in her debut and was the easiest of winners today, Giuliana Vee needed a few weeks at the farm. It’s a process that requires patience and perseverance. We think Giuliana Vee has a shot to be a very nice runner, and being by Into Mischief, the leading sire in the world this year, if she has ability on the racetrack the sky’s the limit as far as her residual value too.

  • Smarty Cat (Overanalyze group #53) and Rapstorerocks (Red Rocks (IRE) group #54) worked fast and well together yesterday (see works below) and expected to work again next week as they approach their debuts.  Here’s a Vimeo clip of both of them training together yesterday (you can hear the clockers calling out the work time in the background)

A lot of action ahead with our two year old crop, this is the time of year many-most of our two year olds are approaching their debuts, stay tuned for more winner’s circle celebrations to come.

  • Magic Musketier and More Ice breezed at Los Alamitos and Starring John Wain breezed at Del Mar this week (see below). All good out of their works. All three doing super, as is Annie’s Candy in northern California, who should run later this month at his favorite track, Golden Gate Fields.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for August 1, 2019

  • Exchanging Ember  worked this morning at Penn National (see below) and so far so good. Assuming she comes out of the work ok, trainer Mark Salvaggio plans to work her one or two more times and look for a race for her. She’s been doing fine since returning to training, fingers crossed for a return to the races in later August or early Sepember.
  • Life On the Edge gets in a very good spot this Saturday at Monmouth Park for her 2nd career start after breezing quickly in company this week. Any owner wishing help with seating – admissions kindly email George@kenwoodracing.com. She’s one of just two horses who have a start under their belts, a huge advantage, and while you never know with all the first time starters she appears to have a class edge in this one so we are looking for a very good effort here.

Please remember George Katzenberger, our wonderful Owner Services Manager, is the person to reach out to for all your seating-admissions-events-parties and other similar requests, George@kenwoodracing.com . George does a lot of work (as all our team does) as a labor of love, a real gift to all of us.

Lots of good news

  • Life On the Edge gets in a very good spot this Saturday at Monmouth Park for her 2nd career start after breezing quickly in company this week. Any owner wishing help with seating – admissions kindly email George@kenwoodracing.com. We are looking for a very good effort here.
  • Giuliana Vee has returned to training at Monmouth Park. She shipped in from the farm Tuesday and trained this morning, looks great. We think the little extra time off really helped her and she’ll hopefully be making her debut this fall.
  • Start a Fire good out of first (easy) timed work as he approaches his debut, you can see his gate training this week here. He continues to make steady progress.

  • Smarty Cat  (Overanalyze group #53) and Rapstorerocks (Red Rocks (IRE) group #54) worked fast and well together this week and expected to work again this week as they approach their debuts.  A lot of action ahead with our two year old crop!
  • No Good Deed and Bullion fine on the farm.

Fine effort, nice horse

  • An absolutely huge Kenwood Racing debut for Solar today, a very good 2nd at Monmouth Park, beaten by a nice horse from Belmont and well ahead of the rest of the field. Moving from maiden $20,000 (the race we claimed him from last time) to winner’s $40,000 (one of the toughest moves you can do); he showed himself to be a real bargain buy with his race today. We said coming into this he hadn’t taken a bad step since claiming him last month and we were confident he was sitting on a big debut effort and he gave us just that. Obviously would have loved to get the win here but have to be very pleased indeed with this. A horse with a future purchased at a value price. Worth noting our old friend Federal Dominance was in the same race as Solar today; claimed away from us for $30,000 last time out he sat right next to Solar for the first part of the race and faded badly, finishing a well beaten 7th. Very very rarely do horses claimed from us do better for their new owners. Claiming is a tough thing for many owners to wrap their heads around (understandably), but the key to success is running in the right spots. When a horse is claimed from us, it’s usually well sold.

1 for 2....

  • Shimmyshimmy Shake started off the day with a 5th in a 10 horse field at Monmouth Park. She was sent to the lead, battled with the heavy favorite, and tired late. Unlike her previous two starts for us, she tried hard here against a solid field in a race run in a fast time for the level. If she can repeat this effort against slightly softer company, she has a shot to get to the winner’s circle next time.
  • New Found Treasure ran hard and well today to finish a close 3rd, a monstrous improvement off the day we claimed her two weeks ago when she was 11th, beaten over 20 lengths with no obvious excuse. She came out of it sound and trainer Kelly Breen opted to run her back on short rest here and she fired a big race, sitting well back on the rail and making a big run on the far turn. Had she not been in tight at a couple of key points on the turn and at the top of the stretch, she’d have been even closer, but it was a fine effort nonetheless.
  • Fifth time was the charm as Solar finally gets in for tomorrow (Sunday) after four previous entries. He’s in the first race of the day in an 8 horse field. Not a bad step or issue since claiming him at the end of last month. He’s ready and looks like he’s sitting on a big debut effort for us, which would make for a very nice weekend overall.
  • Works (below) for our California horses; Magic Musketier and More Ice breezed at Los Alamitos and Starring John Wain breezed at Del Mar.  We’re going to pass the sprint July 31st at Del Mar for Starring John Wain in favor of a similar race going 1 mile in a couple of weeks at Del Mar. All three doing super, as is Annie's Candy in northern California, who should run next month at his favorite track, Golden Gate Fields.
  • All horses from morning training at Monmouth Park came out of their works well. Start a Fire good out of first (easy) timed work as he approaches his debut, Life On the Edge  well after breezing quickly in company as she approaches her 2nd career start, and newly named Smarty Cat (Overanalyze group #53) and Rapstorerocks (Red Rocks group #54) worked fast and well together as they approach their debuts and came back good.  A lot of action ahead with our two year old crop! All works below, trainer Kelly Breen continues to be pleased at the progress all of these horses are making.
  • Exchanging Ember doing fine since returning to training at Penn National last week, fingers crossed for a return to the races next month. She’s expected to breeze early this week @Penn National.

New entry and lots of good works

Two entries for Saturday at Monmouth and now another for Sunday as Solar finally gets in, plus a lot of big works today at Monmouth Park with your two year olds, here’s the latest news…

  • Fifth time was the charm as Solar finally gets in this Sunday at Monmouth Park after four previous entries. He’s in the first race of the day in an 8 horse field. Not a bad step or issue since claiming him at the end of last month. He’s ready and looks like he’s sitting on a big debut effort for us.

Please email George@kenwoodracing.com if you need help with seating – admission arrangements for this weekend!

  • Morning training was a real success at Monmouth Park this morning. Jack Czajkowski hosted a select group of Kenwood owners who watched Start A Fire have his first (easy) timed work as he approaches his debut, Life On the Edge breeze quickly in company as she approaches her 2nd career start, and newly named Smarty Cat (Overanalyze group #53) and Rapstorerocks (Red Rocks group #54) work fast and well together as they approach their debuts.  A lot of action ahead with our two year old crop! Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for July 24, 2019

  • Two entries for Saturday at Monmouth Park and hopefully another for Sunday. ShimmyShimmy Shake & New Found Treasure both run Saturday for groups #47 & #54 respectively.  Both training nicely for this, both get big fields to navigate. Please let us know if you wish help with seating – admission arrangements.
  • Race for Solar did not go for the 4th time, again brought back and hoping will finally use the race for Sunday. He had an exceptional work on the 22n,  fast without being asked for speed. Not a bad step or issue since claiming him at the end of last month. He’s ready and looks like he’s sitting on a big debut effort for us.
  • Exchanging Ember doing fine since returning to training at Penn National last week, fingers crossed for a return to the races next month.
  • Annie’s Candy good out of a huge race at Sacramento. Will run back at Santa Rosa in August and then back to Golden Gate where he has a truly incredible record.
  • Life On the Edge doing well post-race, looking to breeze her in about 10 days and hopefully make her next start in August. She showed a ton of speed and talent, battling head to head for the lead in a fast pace for most of her debut. With the speed she showed she should be tough to beat with a race under her belt next time out.
  • Start A Fire training well at Monmouth, heading towards his debut.
  • Magic Musketier (should run in August at Del Mar), Starring John Wain (race for him July 31st at Del Mar), both doing excellent.
