Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 18, 2019
We have one owner who is unable to attend the National Thoroughbred Owner’s Conference and Breeders’ Cup races at Santa Anita at the end of October. If anyone wishes to attend either-both events, her tickets are available for sale at a large discount. Please email Rob@kenwoodracing.com for more info.
- New Found Treasure is SCRATCHED for today at the Meadowlands. The horse is doing excellent, NO problems. We didn’t like this spot and there’s a race to enter in Sunday for next Friday that would be a much better option. If she doesn’t get in that or it doesn’t go, we’ll look at other races for her.
- Life On the Edge perfect out of her big win in an allowance on Monday at Laurel Park. Looking at another allowance race at Laurel Park beginning of November for her, one step up the ladder with a larger purse. Take a look at this nice article about her most recent win.
- Giuliana Vee gets in at Penn National for her career debut in a nice maiden allowance event next week. A full field, she’s doing well, Kelly Breen will let her break from the gate this weekend one more time before she runs. As usual, entry info. is at www.equibase.com and here. Email George@kenwoodracing.com if you wish assistance with seating-dining, etc. At Penn National, admission is free.
- Rapstorerocks back into training and well at Monmouth Park. He lost a few days previously with a fever and then another couple of days when he lost his rider coming off the track, fell, and got some bloody cuts that fortunately were only skin deep. That caused him to miss two possible races at Laurel Park but he should be fine to run shortly. Probably will have a little maintenance work this week at Monmouth Park to be sure he’s fit and then look for a race to enter in.
- Shake It Up Baby training at T-Square Stud and doing super. Adam Parker thinks he’s about two weeks away from a work, maybe a 2 minute lick or an easy 2 furlong breeze. At that point, assuming he comes out of it well, he’ll be ready to ship to Gulfstream Park to continue his training there.
- ShimmyShimmy Shake had an easy maintenance work today and doing very well at Penn National with trainer Mark Salvaggio and should be ready to run as soon as she’s ‘out of jail’ (can run outside of Monmouth Park where she was claimed) at the end of October. Mark is very pleased with her, says she’s dragging people around the barn eager to train.
- Looking for a spot to run Solar he’s doing excellent. We are trying to get an extra put up for him at The Meadowlands next weekend, if not than we’ll look at other options-tracks.
- More Ice and Night of Idiots both well out of solid works. There are races for Night of Idiots end of October and beginning of November. More Ice should be ready to run in late November
- Magic Musketier good out of his last race and will look for grass next time.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 14, 2019
- Life On the Edge rated perfectly in 2nd, took over the lead at the top of the stretch and drew away to an impressive 2&3/4 length win at Laurel Park in race 4 this afternoon. This was a key test to see if she could compete at this level in turf-distance races and she passed with flying colors. She’s always been sound and had speed and talent; by wisely placing her in a spot where she could harness her speed and run at a less demanding pace than in super-short sprints we made it easier on her and allowed her to have a better shot of being a quality racehorse. Congratulations to all the owners of this very nice filly!
- New Found Treasure gets in Friday at The Meadowlands. A full field, not the race we wanted but a spot to run and as well as she’s training hopefully a good effort forthcoming.
Anyone who needs help with admissions-seating please email George@Kenwoodracing.com
Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 13, 2019
- Magic Musketier sat a nice trip in a stalking position and failed to fire when 6th this evening at Fresno. No excuse except on the wrong surface. Maybe he’ll get to run on turf next time where he’ll have a better shot.
- New Found Treasure gets in Friday at The Meadowlands. A full field, not the race we wanted but a spot to run and as well as she’s training hopefully a good effort forthcoming.
- Life On the Edge runs Monday at Laurel Park. She ran very well in a grass stake at Monmouth Park in September, is ready to run and this allowance race should be a much softer spot. Will be a good test to see if she can compete at this level in turf-distance races.
Anyone planning to attend these races who needs help with admissions-seating please email George@Kenwoodracing.com
- No Good Deed training at Gulfstream Park and doing well.
- More Ice and Night Of Idiots both well out of solid works.
- Rapstorerocks good this morning at Monmouth Park and will go back into training tomorrow.
Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 12, 2019
- Life On the Edge gets in Monday at Laurel Park. She ran very well in a grass stake at Monmouth Park in September, is ready to run and this allowance race should be a much softer spot.
- Magic Musketier gets in the entries for Sunday at Fresno. Been training well and hoping for a good effort here.
- New Found Treasure, More Ice and Night of Idiots all had solid works this morning (below) Just maintenance works for New Found Treasure and Night of Idiots as they are dead fit and have races coming up shortly. It was the first timed work for More Ice since his brief layoff at the farm. He’s making nice progress towards his return.
- Rapstorerocks better this morning, seems like the cuts are indeed superficial. He reared up coming off the track at Monmouth Park yesterday, lost his rider, slid on the ground outside the barn and sustained some ugly cuts but very fortunately they appear to be flesh wounds of no long term consequence.

Enjoy these photos of No Good Deed training at Gulfstream Park bright and early today. Arrived yesterday in great order, went to the track early this morning and trained great.
- Rapstorerocks reared up coming off the track this morning at Monmouth Park, lost his rider and slid on the ground outside the barn. He sustained some ugly cuts, but very fortunately they appear to be flesh wounds of no long term consequence. He was treated by Dr. Dowd, is walking sound and should be able to go back to the track in a few days (barring something worse showing up in the next day or two, unlikely but anything is always possible). There’s a race next weekend for him at Laurel Park and if all goes well he still might be able to make that one. While this appears to be of no long term importance, it’s a textbook example of why we frequently say they are racehorses, not racecars. You can’t “plan on races” like you’d plan a trip to see a football game. You can’t “know when a horse is going to run” because shit happens, all the time. Horses get sick, get hurt, you deal with one day of training, one workout, and one race at a time.

- Magic Musketier gets in the entries for Sunday at Fresno. Been training well and hoping for a good effort here. Anyone planning to attend who needs help with admissions-seating please email George@Kenwoodracing.com .
- Less good news with our other two entries. Both allowance races at Laurel Park for Life On the Edge did not go. The sprint race is dead, they did bring the distance race on the grass back, enter tomorrow for Monday.
- Rapstorerocks was well again this morning after he spiked a high fever a few days ago so we entered him in an ideal spot at Laurel and the race went. Only problem is, races on the grass for 2yo maidens are very much in demand, they got 26 entries and he was not one of the 10 who got to run by random draw, so we’ll have to wait for another opportunity with him.
- No Good Deed shipped into trainer Ron Spatz at Gulfstream Park today to continue her training there and arrived safely this afternoon. As you can plainly see, she looks absolutely magnificent. Adam Parker at T-Square Stud was thrilled with how she’s developed during her time at the farm. Says she’s grown, matured, and showed a lot of speed in her breeze on the training track. Ron plans to gallop her tomorrow at Gulfstream and will send photos from there shortly. A lot to look forward to here!

- Last but certainly not least, impossible to keep up with all the good news with Lisa Limon. Liam’s Map’s daughter Buyer’s Remorse will be one of the choices in a stake at Santa Anita Sunday but no matter what she does remember we said Liam’s Map’s first crop to race is already truly historic? Take a look at the article in today’s Thoroughbred Daily News.
Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 9, 2019

Hard to keep up with all the good news with Lisa Limon. Yesterday, there were two different positive developments. First, her half-brother Snow Man won an allowance race at Zia Park by 8 & ¾ lengths, going away in a cakewalk and doubling his lifetime earnings (see chart). He’s already stakes placed (2nd by a neck in his 2nd career start) and appears to be stakes quality. This is a very important boost to Lisa Limon’s own pedigree, aside from all the good news with the red hot sire she’s in foal to, Liam’s Map. Also yesterday, a Liam’s Map colt was the sales topper at the OBS Select yearling sale, bringing $230,000 (Liam’s Map colt tops Selected Yearling Sale). Several Liam’s Map’s sold for a lot more than this at Keeneland last month and this isn’t a surprising price for a sire as hot as he is now, but the OBS sale commands far lower averages than Keeneland and for a Liam’s Map to be the sales topper here is just another sign of how in demand he is. Easy to see why, as last weekend Liam’s Map’s daughter Wicked Whisper won the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park, going away and trainer Steve Asmussen reports she is being pointed for the Breeder’s Cup at the beginning of November (conveniently right before Lisa is scheduled to sell at Keeneland). Coupled with Basin’s win in the Grade 1 Hopeful at Saratoga last month, Liam’s Map now has two grade one winners, the most of any freshman sire this year and a very rare feat indeed. Lisa Limon, an allowance winning filly by Scat Daddy from a young and attractive female family in foal to Liam’s Map on one early cover (breeding) should be a filly in great demand at Keeneland next month. Congratulations to all her owners!
-
New Found Treasure, Life On the Edge and Magic Musketier were all entered today for races at three different tracks and none of them went, but all three were carried over. There is a grass race at the Meadowlands for New Found Treasure enter Sunday for Friday, two different allowance races at Laurel Park for Life on the Edge, enter tomorrow for Sunday, and a dirt race at Fresno for Magic Musketier enter tomorrow for Sunday. Hoping we have some better news to report on the entry front tomorrow afternoon.
-
No Good Deed has a van lined up (finally, took a while!) and is scheduled to ship into trainer Ron Spatz at Gulfstream Park tomorrow to continue her training there.
-
Rapstorerocks seems better after he spiked a high fever a couple of days ago. No fever but he’s still not eating everything. He walked today and seems ok. He is supposed to be entered Thursday for Sunday at Laurel Park and trainer Kelly Breen plans to monitor him closely. If there’s any question we’ll pass and wait for the next spot.
-
Shake It Up Baby training at T-Square Stud and doing super. Adam Parker thinks he’s about two weeks away from an easy timed work, maybe a 2 minute lick or an easy 2 furlong timed breeze. At that point, assuming he comes out of it well, he’ll be ready to ship to Gulfstream Park to continue his training there.
Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 8, 2019
- Hard to believe but the flood of great news with Lisa Limon keeps on coming. Today her half-brother Snow Man won an allowance race by 8 & ¾ lengths, going away in a cakewalk and doubling his lifetime earnings. He’s already stakes placed (2nd by a neck in his 2nd career start) and appears to be stakes quality. This is a very important boost to Lisa’s own pedigree, aside from all the good news with the red hot sire she’s in foal to, Liam’s Map. Last weekend Liam’s Map’s daughter Wicked Whisper won the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park, going away and trainer Steve Asmussen reports she is being pointed for the Breeder’s Cup at the beginning of November (conveniently right before Lisa is scheduled to sell at Keeneland). Coupled with Basin’s win in the Grade 1 Hopeful at Saratoga last month, Liam’s Map now has two grade one winners, the most of any freshman sire this year and a very rare feat indeed. With a Grade 1 winning filly and a Grade 1 winning colt plus several impressive other maiden special weight winners who look like stakes quality runners, anything else would just be icing on the cake. Lisa Limon, an allowance winning filly by Scat Daddy from a young and attractive female family in foal to Liam’s Map on one early cover (breeding) should be a filly in great demand at Keeneland next month. Congratulations to all her owners!
- Giuliana Vee had a nice 5 furlong work today at Monmouth Park. She worked in company with two other horses from the gate, showed plenty of speed from the rail although she did hesitate when she got dirt in her face on the turn (a good learning lesson). Off of this she is probably one or two works away from being ready to run.
- New Found Treasure, Life On the Edge and Magic Musketier will all be entered tomorrow (Wednesday) for races at three different tracks. A grass race at the Meadowlands for New Found Treasure, an allowance race at Laurel Park for Life on the Edge, and a dirt race at Fresno for Magic Musketier. Hoping we have some good news to report on the entry front tomorrow afternoon.
- Rapstorerocks spiked a high fever yesterday and didn’t eat. Our vet drew a blood which was ok and this morning the fever was gone and he ate up his feed so looks to be something of no consequence. He is supposed to be entered Thursday for Sunday at Laurel Park and trainer Kelly Breen plans to monitor him closely. If all is well the next 48 hours he’ll be entered, if there’s any sign of illness we’ll pass and wait for the next spot.
- Night Of Idiots excellent out of her race at Golden Gate Fields, a good 3rd off a layoff. With this one under her belt and a switch to dirt next time she should be tough to beat. There’s a perfect spot for her at Golden Gate at the end of October.
- No Good Deed will ship into trainer Ron Spatz at Gulfstream Park as soon as we can find a van for her.
- Shake It Up Baby training at T-Square Stud and doing super.
- ShimmyShimmy Shake doing very well at Penn National with trainer Mark Salvaggio and should be ready to run as soon as she’s ‘out of jail’ (can run outside of Monmouth Park where she was claimed) at the end of October.
- More Ice is back in training at Los Alamitos and doing well. “He didn’t lose much (fitness) at the farm. Maybe work 3-4 times and look for a race”, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.
- Bullion is doing well in Kentucky, training at Ellis Park. Trainer Steve Asmussen (leading trainer in North America this year and the trainer of both of Liam’s Map’s stakes winners, Basin and Wicked Whisper, interestingly) reports he’s been working on building up muscle he lost while on the farm. Says the horse is training well and very sound, no leg or other issues. His plan is to get a race or two into him in Louisiana later this fall and hopefully have him sharp and ready for the Oaklawn Park meet that begins in January. Oaklawn has some of the largest purses in the nation at all levels and Steve feels he’ll be a really good fit there and have a shot to earn some serious purse money at that meet.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 6, 2019
- The news with Lisa Limon keeps getting better and better. This afternoon, Liam’s Map’s daughter Wicked Whisper won the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park, going away in a cakewalk. Coupled with Basin’s win in the Grade 1 Hopeful at Saratoga last month, Liam’s Map now has two grade one winners, not only the most of any freshman sire this year, but something that hasn’t been done in decades. Both Basin and Wicked Whisper will be one of the favorites for the Breeder’s Cup race at the end of the month if they run there. At this point, with a Grade 1 winning filly and a Grade 1 winning colt, plus several impressive other maiden special weight winner’s who look like stakes quality runners, anything else would just be icing on the cake. Lisa Limon, an allowance winning filly by Scat Daddy from a young and attractive female family in foal to Liam’s Map on one early cover (breeding) should be a filly in great demand at Keeneland next month.
- Race for New Found Treasure did not go today for Friday at the Meadowlands but was brought back, enter Wednesday for Saturday.
- On Saturday, Start A Fire got in the race we wanted at Laurel Park, went off the solid favorite against a very weak field of maidens, made the lead easily and held it for the first half of the race, then slowed to a walk with no excuse to finish dead last, beaten over 18 lengths with no excuse. We spotted him where we felt there was a solid shot he would be claimed and he was.
- Solar fine out of his race at The Meadowlands. He’s been 2nd and 3rd now for us in 3 starts and is a solid runner.
Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for October 4, 2019
- Solar ran hard and well today at The Meadowlands, finishing 3rd, beaten a nostril for 2nd, Went right to the front, set an honest pace, battled hard when challenged turning for home and repelled that runner, the heavily favored winner went by everyone but he continued to fight and just missed 2nd in a long photo. It was a nice ‘bounceback’ from last time when he got a deep cut during the race and finished 6th with an obvious excuse. He’s been 2nd and 3rd now for us in 3 starts and is a solid runner. “I was very happy with (the effort), I’d like to run him back in the same race again (at The Meadowlands) if we can towards the end of the month”, Kelly Breen
- Annie’s Candy is good out of his race at Fresno, closed with a rush from off the pace to finish 3rd, beaten a nose for 2nd and ½ length for the win in a 4 way photo. The distance was just too short for him and it showed, as he was flying late. He’s an honest horse who almost always gives his best.
- Start A Fire got in the race we wanted at Laurel Parkand runs tomorrow (Saturday). The horse is doing just fine and this is a realistic spot in terms of class and especially the distance. We are hoping for a decent debut here as he begins his career.
- Giuliana Vee and Rapstorerocks both will breeze next week, probably Tuesday Monmouth Park. There are spots to enter Rapstorerocks in the middle of October at Laurel if nothing comes up sooner. He’s ready to run now. We will know more about Giuliana Vee after her work next week but she’s close to her debut, maybe 2-3 weeks away if all keeps going well.
- Night Of Idiots excellent out of her race, a good 3rd off a layoff at Golden Gate Fields. With this one under her belt and a switch to dirt next time she should be tough to beat.
- Life On the Edge doing well; should be a couple of spots for her next week
- Magic Musketier ready to run, had a nice little maintenance work. There are races for him next week at both Santa Anita and Fresno.
- Starring John Wain had an excellent workout at Los Alamitos. He’s ready to run, there are races for him at Santa Anita or Fresno also.
- New Found Treasure is fine. There’s a race for her next week at the Meadowlands which should be a good spot.
- No Good Deed will ship into trainer Ron Spatz at Gulfstream Park early next week most likely.
- Shake It Up Baby training at T-Square Stud and doing fine
- More Ice is back in training at Los Alamitos and doing well. “He didn’t lose much (fitness) at the farm. Maybe work 3-4 times and look for a race”, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.
- Bullion is doing well with Steve Asmussen in Kentucky, training at Ellis Park and Steve is looking at Texas or Louisiana circuits for his next start
- Lisa Limon doing excellent. Hip #s for the sale are out and she sells Sat. Nov 9th, hip #1533 (below). Her covering sire, Liam’s Map, has TWO horses in grade 1 stakes this weekend at Belmont; Wicked Whisper and Alpha Sixty Six. Even a placing for one (or both) after Basin won the Grade 1 Hopeful stakes would be huge.
Finally, see the article from Thoroughbred Daily News just below on champion Midnight Bisou, Midnight Bisou a “Game Changer”. She was purchased for just $80,000 at OBS April, and what her buyer explained (see below), says what matters and how we and other savvy buyers approach a sale better than anything I’ve seen. People spend millions for horses that can’t run, and overlook horses like this for very affordable prices. It’s NOT about a prestige pedigree or a fast work time, it’s about buying the right individual folks. Hard to fathom for many people, but the facts speak for themselves time and again.
