Stable Notes - December 19, 2024
Hi All,
With the year rapidly coming to an end we wish the entire Kenwood Family Very Happy Holidays and look forward to 2025 for more exciting racing action from the horses in our stable. There are still a couple of slots open for our ARC25 claiming program which will get underway directly after New Year’s Day. If you don’t want to miss out on a lot of action throughout 2025 with multiple horses racing at East Coast Tracks, be sure to contact us ASAP before the final shares are taken!
Calming Sea will be racing today in a little over one hour in Race 2 at Gulfstream Park. Scott’s pre-race comments are below.
It’s race day for CALMING SEA in Race 2 at Gulfstream Park today, Post Time at 12:52 PM! A cutback in distance to a 5.5-furlong sprint on the synthetic track, She will get some weight relief with the apprentice jockey, Micah Husbands in the irons! Calming Sea drew the outside Post Position #9 in a field of nine and gets an ideal post position for Micah to read and react out of the gate. They’ll need to use her natural speed to not get caught too wide into the turn, but we’ll see if there is enough early speed signed on to end up with a pace duel on the front end. If not, we’ll likely see them look to get to the lead early, but if there is a speed duel up front, they will look to sit back off the pace and let the speed come back to them around the far turn, turning for home. Calming Sea will have her work cut out for her with two big favorites - #3-Warda at 8-5 on the ML, and #6-Bubbly Champagne sitting at 9-5 odds - but she came out of her last race in good order and has continued to train well. She gets the addition of blinkers today to help keep her a bit more focused and controllable, and she has shown some improvement the past week in the mornings when wearing them. We are hoping she can get back to her form from earlier this year down at Gulfstream Park, especially some of her synthetic races where she showed speed and stamina. Good luck to ARC24, our partner Kelly Breen and all Kenwood Racing Partners, as we look to get Calming Sea into the Winner’s Circle before the end of the year!
Cali Heat is entered right back in the same race off his 3rd Place finish last out, running next Thursday, December 26th at Penn National in Race 5. Post Time is 8:11 PM for the 6-furlong sprint, and jockey Angel Rodriguez will be back in the saddle to try and get back to the Winner's Circle again with Cali Heat!
Lisa’s Palace has continued to progress well with Trainer Mark Salvaggio after her 2nd place finish two weeks ago. We are targeting a race for December 27th for her with entries drawn tomorrow.
Vino Limone is well at Palm Meadows and had a maintenance breeze last Saturday (see details below) as we continue to find a race for her at Gulfstream Park.
Vino Limone (2-Year-Old Filly)
Date: December 14, 2024
Track: PALM MEADOWS TRAINING CENTER
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 49:15 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 42/76
Red Head Italian is fine with Trainer Brittany Russell at Laurel Park in Maryland and we are looking for a race for her at that venue in the coming weeks.
Outlaw Country is enjoying his time at Sunset Meadow Farm and has been in a festive holiday mood based on the picture attached above.
Our Connect / Lisa Limon filly is well at Whispering Meadows Equestrian in Delaware.
Stable Notes - December 6, 2024
Hi All,
A quick update before another busy night of racing with two entries back to back tonight. We will be rolling out the ARC25 claiming program with an online presentation set for 7pm on Thursday December 12th. For those who are interested and have not responded yet please let us know so that you will be added to the list to receive the invite. We will be claiming horses beginning in the New Year at Gulfstream Park through the end of the 2025 Monmouth Race Meet. This is a limited opportunity since there will be no more than 15 slots available. If you want to be in the game for 2025 let us know ASAP!
Red Head Italian made is entered tonight in Race 5 at Penn National going 6 furlongs on the main track with Jevian Toledo, who made the trip from Maryland, aboard to try to make it two wins in a row (see details below and pp’s attached above). She is currently the 5/2 favorite in a full field of 10. Good luck to all Group 91 members and Trainer Brittany Russell.
Lisa’s Palace is entered in Race 6 tonight Friday December 6th at Penn National (see details below and pp’s attached above. She draws the outside post in a 7- horse field going a flat mile. Inoel Beato will ride in a fairly evenly matched field with six horses 5-1 of less. Good luck to Group 95 ARC24, partner Kelly Breen and Trainer Mark Salvaggio.
Cali Heat is entered next Wednesday December 11th in Race 5 at Penn National (see details below). Jomar Torres will be in the irons going six furlongs in a bid for two wins in a row. Details to follow next week.
Vino Limone is well out of her 3rd place finish at Gulfstream Park last week and we will be looking for a race for her soon.
Calming Sea also fine out of her race and will be ready to run again in the coming weeks.
Outlaw Country is enjoying his time at Sunset Meadow Farm getting plenty of time outside in the paddock. We will be scheduling a visit to see him in the near future.
Our Connect / Lisa Limon filly has arrived at Whispering Meadows Equestrian in Delaware and will start the breaking process in a week or so.
Stable Notes - November 28, 2024
Hi All,
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and your families. A quick update before another busy weekend of racing with entries on both Friday and Sunday.
Alot to be thankful for on this day as we are coming off of back-to-back wins last weekend by Cali Heat and Red Head Italian (see result charts attached above). Also, I have attached a picture above of our old friend Seven Seven who has sufficiently recovered from severe injuries to transition into a second career in dressage. Many thanks to Peter Sanfillipo who put in a tremendous amount of time and care to give him a new happy life.
Vino Limone is entered tomorrow in the 4th race at Gulfstream Park going 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt (see details and latest bullet work below). Paco Lopez will ride leaving from post 3 in this seven horse field of two-year-olds. They are currently second pick at 3-1 (see pp’s attached above). Scott’s pre-race analysis is below and good luck to all Group 96 Members and Trainer Kelly Breen.
VINO LIMONE has settled in nicely down at Palm Meadows, and after getting shutout on entries for the past couple of weeks, we finally landed in a short field for a Starter Allowance Optional Claiming sprint for 2YO fillies on Friday, November 29th! Breaking from the #3 Post Position in a field of just seven runners, top jockey Paco Lopez takes the mount as we try to get her back into the Winner’s Circle after a couple tough races against Stakes and Allowance company. There appears to be enough early speed to her outside to help ensure a fast pace on the front end, which should give Vino Limone the target she wants to run at when turning for home. Vino Limone will need to run for the claiming tag in this spot, as the Allowance condition is “started for $25,000, or less”, which she has not run; she broke her maiden at the Mdn35000 level. On speed figures, this is the race for Vino Limone, and hopefully she can take a step forward out of her last two races, where she may have been overmatched, but she still ran hard the whole way and never gave in: finishing 4th in both races.
Vino Limone (2-Year-Old Filly)
Date: November 17, 2024
Track: PALM MEADOWS TRAINING CENTER
Distance: Three Furlongs
Time: 36:35 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 1/15
Calming Sea will be up next as she is entered in Race 4 on Saturday at Gulfstream Park going one mile and seventy yards on the Tapeta track. Emisael Jaramillo will be in the irons in the full field of ten (see pp’s attached above and details below). Scott’s pre-race comments are below and good luck to our Group 95 ARC24 Members and Trainer - Partner Kelly Breen.
CALMING SEA will be running Saturday, November 30th, at Gulfstream Park! After she came out of her race two weeks ago in good order, where Paco Lopez fought her for the first half mile instead of letting her just run, we have been looking to get her right back in the entries. Top South Florida jockey Emisael Jaramillo takes the reins for this spot, in a full field of 10 runners with one AE. There is not a lot of early speed signed on for this one, but #4-Sweet Judy Blue just to her outside did win gate-to-wire last out at the Mdn12500 level back in June; facing winners for the first time is a big jump up, off the five month layoff. #10-Taking It All has also flashed early speed in her previous races, but it doesn’t look like she has enough speed on paper to keep up with Calming Sea and Sweet Judy Blue early; we shall see! The horse to beat on paper in this spot is #1-Bubbly Champagne, who is taking a slight drop in class after back-to-back 2nd place finishes at the Clm16000 NW2L condition, and she likes to come from off-the-pace on the far turn and down the stretch. Calming Sea will need to run back to her races from January/February down at Gulfstream Park to win this, but she has been training great and her last race is a toss-out after the ride she received. Jaramillo will be instructed to let Calming Sea run, and hopefully her natural speed and improved conditioning off the layoff allows her take this field gate-to-wire to break through with that win for ARC24! We’ll follow up Saturday morning with final thoughts and news on scratches/changes.
Cali Heat won an exciting race on Friday November 15th at Penn National (see Scott’s post-race comments below) and is slated to be right back in the entries for next Friday December 6th as he has come back from the race feeling great. The draw will take place tomorrow afternoon. We will provide updates if race is a go.
What a thrilling race Friday night November 15th at Penn National, as CALI HEAT returned the Winner’s Circle in just his second race back after his lengthy layoff! Breaking from the outside post in a short field of five horses, He broke alertly and found himself in a speed duel on the front end, setting quick fractions in the 5.5F sprint through the first half mile. Rounding the Quarter Pole, jockey Jomar Torres gave him a nudge to start making his move, and like a professional, Cali Heat slowly started to break away from the other early speed. With the heavy 1-5 favorite not able to keep up, he still had pressure the entire stretch run from #1-Double Nickel, but Torres kept him to task the entire way and had enough energy late to stay on the winning side! It was an excellent ride from Jomar Torres, who sat patient on Cali Heat and really didn’t “ask” until they were into the stretch; ensuring he didn’t use up too much energy early. It was a professional win in just his 8th career start, and he received a nice jump in his Equibase speed figure; going from the mid 50’s/low 60’s, up to a 75 Equibase Speed figure last night! As a 3yo, turning 4 in January, hopefully he can continue to improve out of this race. Congratulations to all group 93 members and Kenwood Racing partners – our patience with Cali Heat and his injury earlier this year has already been rewarded, and hopefully there is more to come!
Red Head Italian made it two in a row for the Kenwood Stable winning by over 9 lengths at Laurel Park on Sunday Nov 17th. She broke her maiden in style and we are looking to get her back to the races with some possible entries on December 14th at either Laurel or Parx. Scott’s post-race analysis is below.
RED HEAD ITALIAN seized full advantage of the drop-in class today, as she took the full field gate-to-wire for a blowout maiden breaking victory at Laurel Park! There was NO claim out of the race, and she came back to the barn in the good order. Breaking from the outside, she was able to clear the field easily to get the rail, only seeing mild pressure from #3-Sweet Honey Bee who just couldn’t keep pace but managed to finish second; beaten 9.5 lengths in the end! Red Head Italian set respectable fractions on the front end in what seemed like cruise control, and jockey Jevian Toledo just sat patient on her and let her set the rhythm and pace. At the top of the stretch, she handled the turn like a pro and had plenty left. When Jevian started to ask for more, she responded by separating herself from the group and finishing just as strong to win by nearly 10 lengths at the wire. The Equibase Race Chart is attached for your review. We are thrilled to get RHI into the Winner’s Circle with our partner RJR Racing, but also because of the injury she came back from earlier this year, and the patience everyone on this email showed to get her back to the races! It’s not easy having your horse on the sidelines and unable to train/race (especially when the NJ bred racing season is so short!), but wins like this make it all worth it! As the saying goes, and something we firmly believe at Kenwood Racing – if we do right by the horse, the horse will do right by us. Let’s enjoy this one – a true team effort; from Rory Huston and his team at Overbrook, to Kelly and his team that got her back to the races, and finally Brittany Russell and her team for getting RHI into the winner’s circle!
Lisa’s Palace has been training well for Mark Salvaggio at Penn National and will be entered tomorrow for a race on Friday December 6th at Penn National. Updates to follow if the race goes.
Stable Notes - November 15, 2024
Hi All,
A quick update before another busy weekend of racing with entries on both Friday and Sunday. We will be rolling out the ARC25 claiming program in the next couple of weeks and if you would like to hear more about this offer to join a group that will be claiming horses beginning in the New Year at Gulfstream Park through the end of the 2025 Monmouth Race Meet please respond to this email and we will put you on a list to receive more detailed information. This is a limited opportunity since there will be no more than 15 slots available. If you want to be in the game for 2025 let us know ASAP!
Cali Heat will run in Race 2 at Penn National tonight going 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt track (see details below and pp’s attached above). It is a very short field of five horses, but he is currently third choice at 7/2 with no scratches reported. Scott’s comments are below. Good luck to all Group 93 Members and Trainer Mark Salvaggio.
CALI HEAT has come out of his race off the layoff doing well, and we couldn’t pass up a NW2 condition for him in his next race, so he is entered tonight, November 15th! Carded as Race 2 with Post Time right around 6:45 PM, Cali Heat drew the outside Post Position #5 against a short field of five runners! He is third choice on the ML at 7-2 odds, with the favorite, #3-Stormquist, sitting at even money on the ML. Stormquist and #4-Jiggery Pokery look to be the other speed in the race, but with the outside draw, Cali Heat should have the upper hand to stalk the early speed and make one run when turning for home. Cali Heat flashed his speed in his comeback race last out, but just didn’t have the conditioning under him to keep up against a tougher Starter Allowance field. He gets back into claiming company again next week, and we expect him to take a step forward in his second race off the long layoff. Jockey Jaime Torres wanted the mount again, and he is back in the saddle to try and flip the script from their last race. The shorter field always helps, but with an even money favorite and Jiggery Pokery dropping from Starter and Allowance company, Cali Heat will have to earn it next Friday!
Red Head Italian is entered to run on Sunday November 17th in Race 3 at Laurel Park (see details below and pp’s and a picture of her in her stall in Brittany Russell’s barn attached above). She is the early favorite at 5/2 and Scott’s pre-race comments are below. Good luck to all Group 91 members, our partner RJR Racing and Trainer Brittany Russell.
Exciting news to share with RED HEAD ITALIAN back in the entries at Laurel Park this upcoming Sunday, November 17th! Carded as Race 3 with a Post Time just before 1:30 PM, Red Head Italian drew post position #9 in a full field of 10 runners. She will get top Maryland jockey, Jovian Toledo, who is winning at a 20% rate overall, including a 33% win rate with trainer Brittany Russell in over 370 mounts together! While we were targeting a turf start this weekend, Laurel announced this past weekend they were closing the turf course for the season this past Sunday, so RHI is back to a dirt sprint, going 6-furlongs on the main track at Laurel. She had her first official breeze with Brittany and her team on Sunday, going 4-furlongs in :49.4 second (Equibase Workout Notification is below). Brittany was happy with how she moved, and RHI came out of the work in good order and ready to go. RHI is facing off against open company this Sunday, and subsequently will drop in class to give her the best chance to be competitive, and hopefully breakthrough with a trip to the Winner’s Circle! Coming off the long layoff, her last race helped with the conditioning she needs to be competitive, and she hasn’t missed a beat with training since joining Brittany’s stable. Please let us know if you’re planning to make the trip to Laurel on Sunday to watch her race!
Red Head Italian (3-Year-Old Filly)
Date: November 10, 2024
Track: LAUREL PARK
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 49:80 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 35/60
Vino Limone is well at Palm Meadows as we continue to look for a spot for her. She is ready to run and we just need to find a race for her that fits.
Calming Sea and Lisa’s Palace are both fine after off the board finishes earlier this week and we expect both of them to be back in the entries in the coming weeks.
Outlaw Country is enjoying his time at Sunset Meadow Farm getting plenty of time outside in the paddock. We will be scheduling a visit to see him in the near future.
Our Connect / Lisa Limon filly has arrived at Whispering Meadows Equestrian in Delaware (see attached picture above of her sleeping in the hay after the long trip from Kentucky).
Stable Notes - October 24, 2024
Hi All,
In about a little over one hour Cali Heat is set to make his return to racing after a nearly nine-month layoff due to a wound he sustained in his stall back in February. He will be in race 4 tonight at Penn National (see details below and pp’s attached above). Jomar Torres will ride in what is now a field of seven after 3 scratches. His last workout on October 15th (see below) gave trainer Mark Salvaggio the information that he needed to know that he was ready to race again. Scott’s comments on the entry are below and good luck to all Group 93 Members.
Finally, some ENTRY news for our boy CALI HEAT, as he’s entered on Thursday, October 24th, at Penn National contesting a Starter Allowance Optional Claiming sprint, going 6-furlongs on the dirt. Cali Heat will break from Post Position #4 amongst a full field of now 7 runners, and lands top jockey Jomar Torres in the saddle; they are the second favorite on the ML at 5-1 odds. A freak stall incident the morning of his last entry back in February turned into a 9-month layoff requiring attentive care and patience to get him back to this point of being race-ready. Incredibly, Cali Heat returned to training like he didn’t miss a beat over the summer and has continued that trend into the Fall. He just finished up his final prep for his comeback race, firing a bullet gate breeze over 5-furlongs, below is the Equibase Workout Notification. Trainer Mark Salvaggio has been really happy with what he’s seen from him in the mornings, and called right after his gate breeze to tell me Cali Heat is “ready to go.” We’re hoping things will translate to the evenings right off the bat for us!
Cali Heat (3-Year-Old Colt)
Date: October 15, 2024
Track: PENN NATIONAL
Distance: Five Furlongs
Time: 1.00:81 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 1/4
Calming Sea is well after her 5th place blanket finish at the Meadowlands last Friday and is on the way to Palm Meadows for fall and winter racing at Gulfstream Park. Scott’s post race comments are below
In a sport that can come down to inches sometimes, CALMING SEA ran a heck of race last night to finish a disappointing 5th Place, but only beaten by a HALF A LENGTH FOR THE WIN! She broke a step slow and Luis Rivera Jr. had to ask her early to get where she likes to be on the front-end. She then was squeezed going into the first turn, forcing Luis to shuffle back and regroup. She traveled nicely up the backstretch and around the far turn, ultimately making a nice move at the Quarter Pole and top of the stretch, nearly grabbing the lead by the Eighth Pole. Unfortunately, there was a wall of other fillies bearing down on the gate-to-wire winner by the Sixteenth Pole and a all six horses hit the wire together in a thrilling finish! Unfortunately, we came out on the wrong side of the photo, settling for 5th Place. Calming Sea improved her speed figure once again and is certainly a hard-trying filly who bound get her next win very soon! She came out of the race in good order, jogged sound for Kelly’s team was right back in her feed. There will be plenty of racing down at GP for Calming Sea, and she has run her best races on the synthetic track at Gulfstream.
Red Head Italian has shipped to Laurel Park in Maryland following her return to racing on October 18th after nearly a year layoff. She will train with Brittany Russell who was the first female trainer to lead the Annual Training Standings in Maryland last year. We are excited to have her in this position and look to have some success this fall with a possible entry for her on November 7th.
Vino Limone is also on the van headed for Palm Meadows and will continue training with Kelly Breen for a possible entry on Friday November 1st.
Lisa’s Palace is in training with Mark Salvaggio at Penn National and will have a breeze in the next few days to begin preparation for her next race sometime next month.
Outlaw Country is enjoying his time at Sunset Meadow Farm getting plenty of time outside in the paddock. We will be scheduling a visit to see him in the near future.
Our Connect / Lisa Limon filly is well at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky. She will be vanning to a farm in Delaware in late October to become Delaware certified for additional race purses when she is eligible next year.
Stable Notes 10/11/24
Hi All,
We hope that all of the Kenwood family and friends in Florida are safe from the devastation of Hurricane Milton that occurred last week and will be fully recovered soon. Some good news with long anticipated entry tonight and nice results from our runners on Saturday October 5th.
Red Head Italian will make her long-awaited comeback race after almost a year lay off due to some health issues. We have been very patient with her recovery and hopefully this pays off with a long and successful racing career. She is in race four at the Meadowlands tonight leaving from post 6 in a field of eight going five furlongs on the turf (see pp’s attached above and race details and latest work below). Scott’s pre-race comments are below.
Finally! Some entry news to report for RED HEAD ITALIAN, as she is entered Friday night at the Meadowlands in Race 4; Post Time at 8:24 PM! A 5-furlong turf sprint, RHI is coming off an almost 1-year layoff – 51 weeks and 2 days to be exact – and will be trying the turf for the first time on Friday night. She gets one of the up-and-coming riders in the sport, Luis Rivera Jr who Kelly has teamed up with twice already at the Meadowlands Meet to get their picture taken! It’s a shorter field of eight NJ Breds, with all but #8-Starview Twinkle (4YO) being 3YO fillies. RHI has always flashed speed since we picked her out at the OBS April Sale last year on the synthetic surface, and she’s continued to show that speed throughout her return to training on the dirt which hopefully translates to the grass also! All the early speed on Friday night looks to be to her inside, with #5-One Fine Wine, #3-Lady Marleen and #1-Fancy Rosebud all pushing the early pace with quick fractions in past races. With the addition of blinkers, RHI has shown more control in the mornings and will hopefully be prompting that early pace from her outside post, while being able to setup in a stalking position and not get caught too wide. The early speed does appear to be quicker than what RHI showed us last year, so not sure she’ll be able to clear and get the lead out of the gate. With that said, we’ll be in capable hands to read and react accordingly. Fingers crossed for a clean break, a safe trip. Good luck to our partner RJR Racing, all Group 91 Members and Kenwood Racing Partners; let’s get lucky!
Please let us know if you’ll be able to join us Friday night at the Meadowlands. The setup is a little funky for Thoroughbred Racing, and the Paddock/Winner’s Circle is on the “backside”; so we need to take a trackside van from the grandstand to the backside right after Race 3, in order to experience those parts of it.
Red Head Italian (3-Year-Old Filly)
Date: October 6, 2024
Track: MONMOUTH PARK
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 49:00 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 19/54
Miti Fast Flower ran a hard trying 2nd on Saturday October 5th at Delaware Park. Post race report by Scott is below.
MITI FAST FLOWER ran her race again yesterday, coming up just short at the wire of getting back-to-back wins! She broke cleanly from the inside, and saved ground around both turns while chasing a slow pace up front. She got boxed in on the far turn and had to drop back a few lengths, before coming back down the stretch to lose by less than a length at the wire. A thrilling stretch drive that unfortunately came up just short in the end. In what can be the tougher part of this game sometimes, She was claimed away from us out the race and will run for new connections next out. Always a possibility when you’re running in claiming races, we were running her where she could have success and win races. She racked up an 8:1-2-3 running line for Kenwood Racing, and $18,300 in earnings since purchase at the June 2023 OBS.
Vino Limone was our middle runner of three last Saturday in a seven furlong race at Laurel Park in Maryland. She tried hard but just couldn’t catch up to the leaders after a slow break from the gate finishing fourth. See Scott’s post-race comments below.
VINO LIMONE tried her heart out the entire way, but it just wasn’t enough to get an ITM finish against this tough group of 2YO fillies. The winner was much the best in going gate-to-wire to win by 8 lengths in just her second career start, and while Vino Limone was passing horses late, she was a bit outmatched at no fault of hers! She tries hard every time she is on the track, and yesterday was no different. While we would have liked to have that Starter Allowance race go instead of this open Allowance, we’ll get Vino Limone back amongst easier competition next out as we look to get her back in the Winner’s Circle after two TOUGH races. She came out of the race great, and seems no worse for the wear, so we’ll regroup with her down in Florida, and possibly even look for a turf/synthetic race. The current plan is to ship down to Palm Meadows in a couple weeks, and we’ll keep you posted as plans get finalized.
Outlaw Country completed the Saturday Triple-header in Race six at the Meadowlands on October 5th finishing a driving third and missing second by a nose at the wire. The time of the race was 55.75 seconds for the five furlongs and the track record is 55.34 seconds. Scott’s post- race comments are below.
OUTLAW COUNTRY raced his race last night against a very strong group of Starter Allowance horses, coming up a nose short of 2nd place and just a couple lengths short of the gate-to-wire winner. They went fast up front early, and Outlaw Country came with his late kick, but just couldn’t get to the winner and was just shy of getting his nose down at the wire for second place. While it doesn’t mean anything at the end of the day, OC galloped out much the best through the wire and looked like he could have gotten there if the race was 5.5-furlongs instead of 5-furlongs! Outlaw Country has heading to Sunset Meadows Farm for a much-deserved break from the races and we couldn’t be more excited for his future as he heads into his 5YO season. He came out of the race doing great, and while we have no timetable for his time off, we are expecting 2-3 months of R&R and just being a horse! We’ll keep you posted along the way, and we’ll plan a farm visit for the locals at some point over the next few weeks.
Calming Sea is training well, and we will be looking at an entry for her at the Meadowlands on Friday October 18th. The draw will occur next Tuesday with details to follow if the race goes.
Cali Heat is training well for Mark Salvaggio at Penn National and we are pointing him towards a race at Penn on Thursday October 24th (see work details below)
Lisa’s Palace is back in training at Monmouth Park after a short freshening at Sunset Meadow and will ship to Mark Salvaggio at Penn National sometime next week to prep for her next race later this fall.
Our Connect / Lisa Limon filly is well at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky. She will be vanning to a farm in Delaware in mid-October to become Delaware certified for additional race purses when she is eligible next year.
Stable Notes 9/21/24
Hi All,
A lot of news with a big win Thursday afternoon, an entry tonight and multiple spots for horses in the next few weeks. Also, we will be holding our last Breakfast and Backside at Monmouth Park on Saturday morning 9/28 weather permitting for another chance to see your horses train and then meet them back at the stables. Please let us know if you are planning on attending and we will send you the details.
Miti Fast Flower is no longer a Maiden as she cruised to a 9 length win under a masterful ride by Julio Hernandez Thursday afternoon at Delaware Park. Congratulations to All Group 84 members and Trainer Mark Salvaggio. Scott’s post-race comments are below and the race chart is attached above.
After knocking on the door of her maiden breaking win the past few races since stretching out to two turns, MITI FAST FLOWER finally broke through with a convincing win earlier today at Delaware Park, going One Mile on the main track! Breaking from the rail in a field of seven horses (no scratches), she broke cleanly and jockey Julio Hernandez sat patient around the Clubhouse turn and up the back stretch, while saving ground and allowing the others to make a first move rounding the far turn. You could tell Miti Fast still had run in her rounding the turn even though she lost some ground, and it didn’t take much to open up off the rail into the straightaway, to draw away from the leaders and rest of the field to win by nearly 10 lengths at the wire! It was another 4-5 lengths back to the 3rd place finisher, and a total of 22+ lengths back to the 4th through 7th place finishers! An impressive win, and she did it professionally. Interesting to note, Miti Fast was not the Post Time favorite and she ended up beating the short-priced, 1-2 favorite handily.
Calming Sea has finally found an entry slot tonight and will leave from post position 6 with Paco Lopez aboard in Race 3 at the Meadowlands. Scott’s pre-race comments are below and the pp’s are attached above.
It’s RACE DAY for CALMING SEA tonight at the Monmouth At Meadowlands Meet! Post Time is 7:55 PM for Race 3, and Calming Sea gets Paco Lopez in the irons for the One Mile turf route. She’s ready to go today, and has been on a consistent workout schedule since her brief R&R, to get her conditioning where it needs to be. Calming Sea’s best races have been on, or near, the lead out of the gate, and she will need a clean break amongst a full field of 10 to get to the front. The only other early speed on paper is #2-Louella Street, but Calming Sea is a few lengths faster on paper, and should be able to make the lead if that is the only contention. The biggest threats in the race are all closers, with #1-First Reign, #5-Singleberylbourbon, #9-Collective Gold and #10-Special Affair all needing a faster pace to close into. With an easy lead, hopefully Paco and Calming Sea can take it gate-to-wire and not let the closers contend, but there are no guarantees in a full field like this, and we’ll likely see more pace presence on the frontend than expected. Calming Sea is the 2-1 ML Favorite, and with the next favorite at 4-1, she looks to be the horse to beat in this spot. Fingers crossed for a clean and safe trip tonight, and please let us know if you’ll be able to make it to the race, as the setup at the Meadowlands for thoroughbred racing is a little funky, to say the least! Scratches have not been announced yet, so we’ll see if it ends up a full field of ten, or less.
Good luck to ARC24, Trainer and co-owner Kelly Breen and all Kenwood Racing Partners! Let’s get lucky!
Vino Limone is doing great after her 4th place finish in the 200K Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park. She had a very nice breeze last Sunday (see below) and we will look to enter her for a race for two year old winners on Wednesday October 2nd at Delaware Park. More details to follow once the race is carded.

Red Head Italian has progressed nicely with Trainer Kelly Breen since resuming training early in August. She had a nice gate breeze last Sunday (see video link and report below). Scott’s comments on the outcome are below.
Red Head put together one of her best breezes to date, working in :36.3 seconds for the 3 furlongs, and she handled the turn on the gallop-out with ease! Please use the link below to see a video of the breeze and gallop-out. The Equibase Workout Notification is below, and while it says :37.3 seconds for the time, you can hear Kelly say at the 7/8ths Pole, “36.3”; which was his time. As we’ve said though, with regards to workouts, the time really doesn’t matter; it’s how they look while doing it, and RHI looked like she was ready to go today! We said we would let RHI do the talking as she got back into training and likely “race her into shape” to try and make a race at the Meadowlands, and that remains the target! There is not a NJ Bred race in the book until October 11th, but with racing starting next weekend at the Meadowlands, and the first Overnight due out on Thursday, we’ll have our eyes peeled for an NJ Bred race to pop before mid-October. Our fingers remained crossed (at all times in this game!), but our patience and plan with RHI continues to stay on track.

Miti Fast Flower is doing
MITI FAST FLOWER continued to collect a paycheck last night when finishing a well-beaten 3rd in the two-turn Maiden Claiming event at Penn National, and she unfortunately just didn’t have the cleanest of trips from start to finish. Miti Fast Flower was one of two horses to act up in the gate (something she hasn’t done before!), and once settled, the gates opened, and her first step out was an awkward one, forcing her to play ‘catch up’ from the start. Jockey Anthony Salgado let her rush up after the poor start, with the early speed starting to get clear up the back stretch, and Miti Fast just never looked to get into a comfortable rhythm throughout. She didn’t stop running though, grinding away down the stretch to get Into The Money for the her fourth consecutive race. Unfortunately she couldn’t get the breakthrough win we were looking for, but she continues to knock on the door, and with a cleaner trip and some racing luck, she’ll break through next out! I have attached the Equibase Race Chart from last night, for your review.
Penn National will remain open for training over the next 6-7 weeks, but will not resume racing until the 2nd week of October; when their Fall/Winter Meet starts up. Miti Fast will remain in training at Penn with Mark and his ream, while we target Parx, Laurel, and possibly even a try at the Meadowlands on the turf, this fall. She has come out of the race in a good order, and was right into her feed bucket this morning!

Stable Notes August 20, 2024
All,
The Annual Kenwood Picnic will be held on Sunday August 25th which is now less than 1 week away. Very Important! If you would like to attend the event, if you have not done so already please reply no later than Monday August 19th with the number of people over 12 years of age in your group to george@kenwoodracing.com and I will send instructions for obtaining tickets for entry and to get the free Cooler Bag which is part of the NJ Thoroughbred Day Festival that day. We will have a large turnout and want to have enough food and drinks for everyone.
Vino Limone has been entered for the 200K Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park which has been carried over to Saturday August 24th due to only 4 entries. We hope that another two horses will be added to enable the race to make the Saturday card. She has come out of her debut win in great shape and deserves a chance to show what she can do at this level and possible add some Black type to the family. We will not know until Wednesday afternoon if the race will be added and will update when the information becomes available.
Miti Fast Flower is doing well with trainer Mark Salvaggio at Penn National and still on track for in a race scheduled for August 29th. We will update when entries are added at the end of the week.
Outlaw Country continues to train well we are looking for a spot for him later this month.
Calming Sea is ready to run in the first spot that we can find for her in the next week or two. She was scheduled to breeze this morning but due to the muddy track conditions she just went out for a gallop. See link to video below.
Calming See - MTH Gallop 08.17.24
Cali Heat is back in training with Mark Salvaggio at Penn National after the long layoff due to a wound he suffered in March and so far seems to be right back on track but will need a couple of breezes before we enter him in a race.
Red Head Italian has resumed training with Kelly Breen and also will need a couple of breezes before being ready for a race.
Lisa’s Palace is well and getting a little time off at Sunset Meadow Farm and should be back to Monmouth before the end of the month.
Our Connect filly is well at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky. See the latest report from Sergio below.

Stable Notes July 26, 2024
Hi All,
A busy day coming up with entries today at Monmouth Park and tonight at Penn National. Also please mark your calendars for Sunday August 25th which will be the Annual Kenwood Picnic at Monmouth Park on NJ Thoroughbred Festival Day.
Lisa’s Palace has been training well and is entered today in Race 3 at Monmouth Park (see breeze and race info below and pp’s attached above) . Scott’s prerace comments are below.
Hello ARC24,
It’s RACE DAY for LISA’S PALACE, as she runs in Race 3 today at Monmouth Park; an 8.5-furlong turf route, with a scheduled Post Time of 2:57 PM! She gets apprentice jockey, Melissa Iorio in the saddle, who breezed Lisa’s Palace last weekend and has some familiarity with her. She coming off an okay effort in her first try back on turf since last year, but it better suited for this two-turn race, and is coming into the race doing well. She is a longshot on the ML at 20-1 odds, but has run well on turf going two-turns against better competition, and a repeat of that effort could win today. Our former ARC24 runner, #7-Butterfly Queen, is the ML favorite at 5/2 odds, and coming back on 6 days rest to the level she won at last out, after being claimed away from us. There is not a lot of early speed on paper and Lisa’s Palace likes to come from off-the-pace, so we could see her forwardly placed this afternoon with a slower pace expected on the front end. Saving ground will be the key, and hopefully a clean break puts LP in the perfect stalking trip heading into the first turn. I have attached the PP’s for you use today, and good luck to ARC24 and Kenwood Partners! Let’s get lucky!
Lisa's Palace (3-Year-Old Filly)

Track: MONMOUTH PARK
Distance: Three Furlongs
Time: 37:60 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 30/63
Miti Fast Flower is entered in Race 7 at Penn National going one mile on the main track (see race info below and pp’s attached above). Scott’s pre-race comments are below.
Hello Group 94,
Coming back on just seven days rest, MITI FAST FLOWER is right back in the starting gate tonight for the night cap at Penn National, Race 7; Post Time at 8:39 PM! Stretching out to two turns for the first time tonight, she’ll contest a short field of six going 1 Mile on the main track. Miti Fast is 9/2 on the ML, and gets Anthony Salgado in the irons. There is not much early speed in the race on paper, and Miti Fast Flower has shown gate speed to be able to break on top against this group. Regardless of having the lead or stalking the lead, we are hopeful Miti Fast can get more comfortable with the race pace going two turns, while still conserving enough energy to make a run down the stretch. She has come out of her race last week with good energy in the mornings, and Mark wouldn’t have entered her in this spot if he didn’t think she was capable of coming back with a good effort. Good luck to Group 94 and Kenwood Partners, and let’s get a little bit of racing luck tonight! Past Performances are attached for your use.
Outlaw Country is the highlight of the weekend as he is entered in Race 9 the Wolf Hill Stakes on Saturday July 20th (Haskell Day) at Monmouth Park (see details below). It is a big step up from the Allowance ranks but he has shown a real affinity for the Monmouth
Vino Limone continues to train well and had her final timed workout (see below) before entry for her debut race on August 3. More details to follow when entries are set.
