  • Life On The Edge will be vanned tomorrow to the Timonium Fairgrounds in Maryland for the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December Mixed & HORA Sale (Horses Of Racing Age).  She is Hip #125 in this one-day sale on Tuesday, December 6th and it will be streamed LIVE on their website beginning around 11:00 AM be sure to tune in! Her sales page from the catalog is attached above, showing her family’s most recent successes on the racetrack; including some updates since the catalogue was printed. She has been doing great with trainer Mark Salvaggio at Penn National, getting daily time on his walking wheel to help stay fit for the sale.  Her sale will close out our Historic Group 50 after her 34 starts including 5 wins, 6 seconds and 2 thirds earning over $119,000 in Kenwood Racing Silks.
  • Easy as A.B.C. had a light maintenance work on November 20th and is entered tomorrow in Race 4 at Gulfstream Park.  He gets top rider Paco Lopez who also was aboard in his debut while finishing 3rd in a Maiden Special Weight on Haskell Day at Monmouth Park.  Currently the 9/5 favorite he will be going 7 furlongs on the dirt in a lightly raced field of 8.  We are looking for a good effort from him in this spot.  Good luck to all Group 81 Members and Kenwood Racing Partners.
  • Torn Jeans went gate to wire at Penn National on Friday 11/18 under the guidance of rider Tyler Conner.  Her win concluded our ARC22 Group, as she was claimed out of this race.  Congratulations to trainer Mark Salvaggio, all Group 85 Members and our partner Kelly Breen.  We also received some other good news for the group as the winner in her race at Delaware Park was disqualified and Torn Jeans was placed 3rd instead of 4th earning some additional purse $’s for the group.  She raced 5 times in Kenwood Racing Silks with 1 win and 3 thirds.
  • Both Ellie's a Riot and Without a Net are training on the track in Ocala with both progressing nicely after their time at Overbrook Farm in Colts Neck.  Hoping to get them over to Kelly at Palm Meadows in January to continue training for their racing debuts

  • Our Palace Malice Lisa Limon 121 filly is doing well at Manuden Farm with Nick de Meric while prepping for the spring sales

General News

With NJ racing finished for 2022, our horses are on the move to their winter quarters, which is detailed in this update.  Some important news about our NYRA claiming group is detailed below by our Racing Manager Scott Schaub.

"In an effort to open up our NYRA claiming group to a few more individuals we will be offering all claimed horses on an individual basis with those who participate getting priority for participating in any future NY claims but with no obligation to participate in any additional claims.  The team is already closely monitoring entries for our first claim at Aqueduct, and your 5% share in the first single horse group can now be reserved for just $4,500 which includes six months of training and management expenses. Any prorated training expenses are returned if we own the horse for less than six months. This amount allows for up to a $40,000 claim with any unused purchase funds returned if the claiming price is less. Simply reserve your spot now for our first NY runner, and its your choice to proceed with future runners, or not. We hope you'll join us for this exciting opportunity to run for lucrative purses at Aqueduct all Winter long, but space is limited with the group nearly sold out."

To reserve a spot or for any further information on the program, please contact Scott (Scott@Kenwoodracing.com) or George (George@kenwoodracing.com)

  • Torn Jeans is doing well at Penn National with Mark Salvaggio, after a nice breeze last weekend she is entered in sprint going 5 1/2 furlongs on the dirt in Race 7 race on Friday 11/18. It is a short field of six and she gets top local rider Tyler Conner in the irons. Currently the 2-1 M/L favorite she will break from the inside post and we look for a big effort from her in this spot. Good luck to all Group 85 Members and Partner - Trainer Kelly Breen.

Date: November 5, 2022
Track: PENN NATIONAL
Distance: Three Furlongs
Time: 36:50 Breezing

  • Both Ellie's a Riot and Without a Net had an uneventful trip to Ocala Wednesday and are settling in nicely in their new training facility at Global Thoroughbreds Farm.   There is a training track on site and will be the ideal setting for both young fillies to continue to mature and begin their racing careers.  They did everything right during their brief stay at Overbrook, are looking great with healthy and shiny coats, and should be back on the track in a short while.

  • Easy as A.B.C. is well at Palm Meadows Training Facility in Florida after a smooth trip south from Monmouth Park last Sunday.  He was on the track Wednesday for a very light jog and Kelly will continue to increase his workouts over the next week. If all continues to go well, we will be looking for a race in a couple of weeks at Gulfstream Park.
  • Torn Jeans is well after her last race and shipped to Mark Salvaggio at Penn National on Tuesday for the Fall - Winter meet.  She will get some class relief there and we look for her to move forward under Mark’s expert care.  Looking for a good spot for her in the next few weeks.
  • Both Ellie's a Riot and Without a Net are doing fine at Overbrook Farm, as they continue to mature and develop physicallyScott was out to see them on Thursday morning and you can see his report below.

Without a Net and Ellie's a Riot are both doing great at Overbrook Farm with their time away from the track, and Kelly Breen stopped by today to get his eyes on them before he transitions down to Florida with his string of horses within the next couple of days.  See photos of both in their stalls at Overbrook this morning, and as Kelly reported, “Both look great.  Good coats, good weights.”  One thing we have been concentrating on with Rory Huston during this brief freshening is trying to maintain their weights since we are looking to get both back into training ASAP. They have both been doing great with their eating and maintaining weight, a sign of happy and healthy horses!  With Kelly Breen taking the bulk of his string to Palm Meadows and Gulfstream Park, including our 2yo Easy As A.B.C., we are going to send both fillies down to Ocala to start their progression back to the track, and then ultimately into Kelly’s barn at Palm Meadows Training Center when the time is right.

  • U Kant Whip It is enjoying his turnout at Sunset Meadow Farm, according to Jeanne and we will be planning a visit to see him sometime in November.
  • Our Palace Malice-Lisa Limon ‘21 filly has been sent to Manuden Farm with Nick and Jaqui de Meric for breaking and training towards the Spring Sales.
  • At Hidden Brook farm, Lisa Limon and her Vino Rosso filly are both doing well.

  • Easy as A.B.C. is entered in Race 2 tomorrow at Laurel Park, which is carded for the turf, but with all the rain forecast for the area we believe that it will be run on the main track with a substantially reduced field from the original 12.  He has been training well and gets veteran rider Victor Carrasco in the irons in a bid to break his maiden.  Good luck to all Group 81 Members and Trainer Kelly Breen.
  • Appraisal is scheduled to run in Race 9 going 6 furlongs on the main track ar Laurel Park.  He has bounced back quickly after his impressive 2nd place finish just 2 weeks back in much tougher company.  Veteran Angel Suarez will ride in a short field of seven hoping to get a win in the Kenwood silks.  Good luck to all group 89 members and Trainer – Partner Kelly Breen.
  • Torn Jeans is fine out of her hard trying 4th last weekend and we will be looking for her next race in the coming weeks.

General News

A lot to catch up on since our last report.  First, we wish long time Kenwood Partner Carl D’Angelo a very Happy Birthday today. See the pictures of Carl enjoying the festivities at our Annual picnic, which was held on August 28th at Monmouth Park.  We had close to 100 Kenwood Partners, Group Members and Friends attend on a picture-perfect day. It was great to see everyone who was able to spend some time with us and enjoy NJ Thoroughbred day.  For those who were unable to attend, we hope to see you next year.  Put the last Sunday in August in your Calendar to reserve the day.

Horse by Horse News

  • As for the Stable we are sad to say goodbye to our Homebred, Fire’s Finale, who was claimed away from us last Sunday while finishing 2nd in the 4th race at Monmouth Park.  The comments tell the story as he had a “Nightmare Trip” having to be checked 3 times in traffic and still losing by just a hair.  This colt provided one of our most memorable racing days when he came from the back of the pack to win the Pennsylvania Nursery stakes as a two year old on 12/7/2020.  See the link to recapture that memory. We wish him the best of luck for his new Owners and when he retires from racing we will make sure that he has a good home
  • We welcome the newest member of the Kenwood Racing Stable, a three year old gelding named Appraisal who was claimed on August 26th after finishing a game 2nd.  We are looking forward to some good things from him in the coming weeks.
  • Easy as A.B.C. has had two works since our last report and according to Trainer Kelly Breen he is very professional and does everything right.  He was entered earlier today for a race on Sunday, which did not go but is carried over for next weekend.  We will keep everyone informed as to his next entry.

  • U Kant Whip It is fine and we are looking for his next spot on the turf as well.

General News

A bit slower the past couple weeks with entries and news, but we are looking forward to an exciting stretch of racing for Kenwood Racing, to end the Summer and begin the Fall racing seasons; starting this Saturday with multiple entries right at Monmouth Park!  We are also hosting our annual Kenwood Racing Picnic this Sunday during the NJ Bred Racing Festival, and are looking forward to spending the day with the Kenwood Racing family in what is shaping up to be an excellent day of weather and racing at Monmouth Park! We do have limited space available if you can attend.  Please email us at George@Kenwoodracing.com for tickets.

Horse by Horse News

  • This Saturday we have U Kant Whip It first up in Race 6 at Monmouth Park, looking to make it THREE WINS IN A ROW sprinting 5 ½ Furlongs on turf, with regular rider Albin Jimenez back for more! Breaking from post position #7, of eight entries, U Kant will have to use his speed to get to the lead and hopefully never look back!  Good luck to Group 67 and partner Ralph Pastore!
  • Our second runner for the day is recent claim for ARC22, Torn Jeans, stretching out to 1 Mile on the turf in Race 10 at Monmouth Park. She get leading rider Paco Lopez after finishing a closing 3rd in her only start for Kenwood while sprinting on turf, and the team is hopeful some added distance will suit her well in this spot. Good luck to ARC22 as well, on Saturday!
  • Fire's Finale continues to do well in the mornings, posting a sharp breeze last weekend in preparation for his target race, next Sunday, September 4th of Labor Day Weekend.
  • Kenwood’s most recent claim with ARC22, a 4yo G by Gormley named Mystified, is doing great out of his race, and has already been back on the track with Kelly’s team, working towards his Kenwood debut, which is now in Race 5 on Monday.
  • After 34 races, five trips to the Winner’s Circle, and banking nearly $120,000 while winning on dirt and turf, while sprinting and routing, we have decided to retire Life on the Edge sound. She has had a fine racing career winning as a 2yo, 3yo and 4yo, and will be entered in an upcoming sale breeding sale, as a Broodmare Prospect; officially retired from racing.
  • Easy as A.B.C. is scheduled to be back on the work tab this weekend, and continues to do well as we look for a two-turn dirt race for his next start.
  • Without a Net registered her first breeze since being back at the track.
  • Ellie's a Riot isn’t far behind, as they both look to gain the conditioning needed for their debut races this Fall!

General News

Kenwood Racing’s Annual Picnic returns on Sunday August 28th. It is NJ Thoroughbred Day with a long sleeve T-Shirt Giveaway. Please mark your calendars, as details will follow shortly.

Horse by Horse News

  • We are happy to welcome a new horse to the Kenwood Racing Stable, as we won a 5-way shake yesterday to claim Mystified, a three year old gelding by Gormley for the ARC22 Group.   He has had 5 starts so far, with 1 first, 2 seconds and 2 thirds to date.  We are looking forward to some good things from him in the future.  Good luck to our ARC22 Claiming Group.
  • Easy as A.B.C. will run tomorrow in Race 4 at Monmouth Park.  It is a field of 10 going a flat mile on the turf.  He gets veteran rider Jorge Vargas Jr in the irons, in a bid to break his Maiden after his impressive 3rd place finish after being sandwiched in his debut.  We expect a large turnout tomorrow to see him run.  Good luck to all Group 81 Members.
  • Torn Jeans is doing well and was entered yesterday for a race on Monday, but the race did not fill.  It was brought back to enter tomorrow for Friday the 19th.  She had a maintenance work last Wednesday.  We will update as soon as she has been entered.

Torn Jeans (4-Year-Old Filly)
Date: August 10, 2022
Track: MONMOUTH PARK
Distance: Three Furlongs
Time: 37:60 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 9/14

  • U Kant Whip It will be looking for a third consecutive win, as there is a race for him on Monday August 22nd.  Details to follow if the race goes.
  • Catania  training fine and we are hoping for a race for her next weekend as well.

Catania (5-Year-Old Mare)
Date: August 10, 2022
Track: MONMOUTH PARK
Distance: Three Furlongs
Time: 37:20 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 6/14

  • Ellie's a Riot and Without a Net are both progressing nicely while training with Kelly Breen.  If they continue to move forward, there are possible races for their debuts during the last weekend of the month.  We will keep you posted on their progress.
  • Fire's Finale is well and we are looking for another race for him, with additional class relief in the coming weeks.
  • Life on The Edge has had 34 starts in Kenwood Racing silks, with 5 trips to the Winner’s Circle and nearly 40% ITM finishes, it is unfortunately time to retire her, as trainer Mark Salvaggio reported that she came off the track quite sore on her front left leg, and has recommended at least 3-4 months rest, which would take us past turf season in the Northeast.  She is not in discomfort under her own weight and walking around at this point. She is a dual surface winner at 2,3 and 4 and banked almost $120,000 on the track. She will be retired to begin a second career as a Broodmare and we wish her well.  Thanks to all Members of our historic Group 50 who have supported her throughout her racing career.
  • Lisa Limon and her 2 foals are all well at Hidden Brook Farm.  See picture of the Vino Rosso filly.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for August 6, 2022

August 8, 2022 at 7:08 am • By Anonymous

General News

A heart-stopping weekend of racing last Friday and Saturday as we had two winners by less than a foot combined in back to back days.  We are also looking forward to Kenwood Racing’s Annual Picnic on Sunday August 28th, after a 2- year hiatus due to Covid-19.  Please mark your calendars as details will follow next week.

Horse by Horse News

  • U Kant Whip It started it off with his 2nd straight victory by just hanging on to win by a nose after breaking to the lead quickly under a masterful ride by Albin Jimenez from post position 1.  He wired the field of eight on a very hot day at Monmouth Park and provided a nice Winner’s Circle picture for the large group of attendees.  He has come out of the race fine and will be looking to make it a hat-trick in the coming weeks.  Congratulations to all Group 67 Members and our partner Ralph Pastore.
  • Tetragrammaton made it two wins in a row for Kenwood Racing and jockey Albin Jimenez on Saturday.  He broke sharply from post 11 and led the field the entire way around, holding off 2 others by a nose at the finish line.  Unfortunately, he was claimed from us out of the race after a nice but short Kenwood Racing career.  He has raced seven times with 2 wins, 2 seconds, a third and just under $50K in earnings since being claimed at Gulfstream Park for $12,500 last February.  Congratulations to the ARC22 Group and our Trainer-Partner Kelly Breen.
  • Torn Jeans is doing well and will be entered Sunday for a race on Friday August 12th.  Additional info when available.
  • Catania training fine and we are actively looking for a race for her.
  • Easy as A.B.C. doing well after his 3rd place finish on Haskell Day and will be entered in the coming weeks for his next try.
  • Ellie's a Riot and Without a Net have both returned to Monmouth Park and have resumed training with Kelly Breen after a brief rest at Overbrook Farm.  They are both progressing well and should be on the work tab shortly.
  • Fire's Finale is fine after finishing a dull 5th yesterday at Monmouth Park.
  • Life On the Edge is well with trainer Mark Salvaggio at Penn National.
  • Lisa Limon and her 2 foals are all well at Hidden Brook Farm.
