Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for July 17, 2023
General News
A lot of action coming up this week with 2 races carded and 3 more possible. Also, there is still availability in both of our new Horse Groups, but we are down to the last few available shares and will close out the groups once they are sold. Both horses have been working well for Trainer Kelly Breen at Monmouth Park. This is your final opportunity of the year to join in a Kenwood Racing Horse Group and if you want to get in on the action, please contact Scott or myself ASAP.
Important: Save the date of Sunday August 27 for the Annual Kenwood Picnic at Monmouth Park during the NJ Thoroughbred Festival. Details to follow early in August.

- Lisa's Palace has shipped from Monmouth Park to Saratoga in anticipation for her debut on Wednesday July 19th in Race 6 a Maiden Special Weight for a large purse of 83K. The daughter of our beloved Lisa Limon had a very nice breeze on July 6th in preparation and trainer Kelly Breen feels that she deserves a shot in this spot. Hall of famer Joel Rosario will be aboard in a 5 ½ furlong sprint on the main track. There is a full field of ten horses with two alternates and breaking from the one post will certainly be a challenge. Currently 12-1 on the board we are hoping for a safe trip and that she can make a good account of herself against this tough group. We will be there to cheer her on and good luck to all our Group 92 Members.

- Red Head Italian will try to break her Maiden on Friday July 21st at Monmouth Park and give Group member Karen Moss-Lux a very Happy Birthday Present in race 4 at Monmouth Park. Talented rider Jose Gomez will once again be in the irons in this NJ Bred five furlong sprint. She will break from a favorable position out of post 7 with eight horses vying for the 71+K purse. Most of the horses were in her debut race where she ran a hard trying second on June 30th. We expect a large crowd to be on hand on Haskell eve to cheer her on. Good luck to all Group 91 Members, Trainer Kelly Breen and our partners at RJR Racing.
- Boston Princess had an easy work on July 9th in preparation to be entered on Wednesday for an Allowance Race on July 22nd Haskell Day at Monmouth Park. Kelly has been very pleased with her since she shipped up from Florida late in June and believes she will be very competitive in this slot. More details to follow if she makes the entries.

- U Kant Whip It was entered for a turf sprint at Monmouth Park for this Friday, but the race was not carded and we are diligently looking for a spot for him as well. He is ready to go and we just need to find a spot for him to be entered.
- Montauk Summer has recovered nicely from his race where he sustained a cut on his leg after being kicked during the race. We will be looking for a slot for him in the coming weeks.
- Ellie's a Riot is well on the farm in Florida getting some rest and relaxation.
- Lisa Limon and her foals are well at Hidden Brook Farm.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for July 4, 2023
General News
A lot of news to report from the past week. Shares in both of our new Horse Groups have sold quickly and we are down to the last few available shares. There are just two 5% shares available in the Flameaway / Livermore Valley 21 Colt Group 93 and just four 5% shares available in the Mitole / Lilacs and Lilies filly Group 94. Both horses worked 1/8 of a mile in 10.0 seconds on the Ocala Training Track prior to the sale and we were able to purchase them for bargain prices. This is the final opportunity of the year to join in a Kenwood Racing Horse Group and if you want to get in on the action, please contact Scott or myself ASAP.
Important: Save the date of Sunday August 27 for the Annual Kenwood Picnic at Monmouth Park during the NJ Thoroughbred Festival. Details to follow early in August.
Horse by Horse News
- Brit's Candyman started us off for the week with a hard trying 3rd last Wednesday night at Penn National. Rider Tyler Conner said he felt good the entire way, but just could not get past the winner in the stretch. He has shown his versatility finishing well on both dirt and turf over the last few weeks. He has come out of the race in good order and we are looking to get him back in the entries as soon as a race is available.
- Red Head Italian provided some fireworks on Friday in front of a large contingent of Group Members and their families as she sped to the lead out of the gate in her debut. I have paraphrased Scott’s post- race review here as it covers all the action.
What an exciting race yesterday for RED HEAD ITALIAN’S career debut, just getting nosed out at the wire by another first-time starter for the win! While we certainly would have liked the win, it is hard to be too disappointed in her effort and the outcome. She was the first to load into the gate and had zero issues getting loaded and set, but unfortunately almost every other horse had problems loading, with the entire process taking about 3-4 more minutes while she waited patiently for the start. Acting like a true professional throughout she broke cleanly and got right to the lead as planned, with continued pace pressure from the eventual winner just to her outside. She was confronted by the winner at the top of the stretch, but battled on gamely the entire stretch drive, while exchanging leads a couple times, before just getting beat at the wire by a short neck! She came out of the race well according to trainer Kelly Breen. Our partner Jeremy Rosen (Racing Manager for RJR Racing) reported that she looked good, jogged sound, and cleaned up the feed tub Saturday morning. Her 2nd place finish brought a respectable $14,375 in earnings with the lucrative NJ Bred purses, and since she still keeps her Maiden condition, she will be eligible to run right back on July 21st in a five furlong NJ Bred MSW race for the same large purse. The Equibase Race Chart is attached above for your review, where her full note tells the story perfectly – “RED HEAD ITALIAN showed good speed on the inside to set the pace, dueled into the stretch, dug in gamely on the rail in the final sixteenth and battled to the end.”
- Montauk Summer is entered in the seventh race on Friday at Monmouth Park going a mile and a sixteenth on the turf in a full field nine with multiple also eligibles and MTO entries as well. He will need to be in top form to capture the Winner’s share of the large 60K purse, but trainer - partner Kelly Breen feels that he has been training exceptionally well and deserves a shot in here. Jose Gomez will be in the irons for Group 90 ARC23. We expect a large number of the Kenwood family to attend so please let us know ASAP if you need admission passes.
- Boston Princess is well after her trip up from Florida and was entered in a Starter allowance at Belmont for Saturday that didn’t go. The race was brought back for Sunday, but she was not selected as one of the entries. We are actively looking for a spot for her on the turf at Monmouth or any other Northeast Tracks in the next week or so.
- U Kant Whip It was entered for a turf sprint at Laurel, but the race was not carded and we are diligently looking for a spot for him as well. He had a maintenance breeze last Wednesday and is ready to go.

- Ellie's a Riot has been retired from race training as a series of physical setbacks have made it a better choice to give her a career as a Broodmare rather than a Racehorse. With her sparkling pedigree we hope that she will bring in some nice $$’s for our Group 83 Members in one of the Sales this fall.
- Lisa Limon in foal with a colt to Practical Joke and her offspring are well at Hidden Brook Farm. Here’s video of our Vino Rosso filly walking last Thursday morning at Hidden Brook Farm in Kentucky.

- A lot of good news to report from the last 10 days. Shares in both of our new Horse Groups have been selling rapidly. There are just two 5% shares available in the Flameaway / Livermore Valley 21 Colt and just six 5% shares available in the Mitole / Lilacs and Lilies filly. Both horses worked 1/8 of a mile in 10.0 seconds on the Ocala Training Track prior to the sale and we were able to purchase them for bargain prices. This is the final opportunity of the year to join in a Kenwood Racing Horse Group and if you want more information please contact Scott or myself ASAP.
- Wheelingndealing gave us a thrilling victory last Sunday on Father’s Day in front of 28,000 fans at Monmouth Park. A large group of Kenwood Partners, Group Members and Friends were on hand to see the race and get in the Winner’s Circle picture. Congratulations to our Group 90 ARC23 Group Members and Trainer - Partner Kelly Breen, who is currently tied at the top of the Monmouth Park Trainer’s Leaderboard. The filly was claimed from us out of the race and we wish her the best of luck with her new connections.
- Brit's Candyman is entered on Wednesday June 28th in Race 2 at Penn National with top rider Tyler Conner in the irons in a field of ten where he is 4/1 on the current line. Fingers crossed that the weather improves and the race stays on the turf which is his preferred surface. Good luck to the ARC23 Group and our Partner Peter Castellano of Paterpop Racing and trainer Mark Salvaggio.
- Red Head Italian continues to do everything right and had another nice breeze last Sunday. She worked in tandem with our Lisa’s Palace and the link to the video. She is on the inside, with leading Monmouth Park jockey, Paco Lopez, riding. Kelly Breen was happy with her workout, and Paco said that she broke cleanly, with no issues, and felt good the whole way. She will be entered later today in a Jersey Bred Maiden Special Weight for Friday June 30th with a huge purse of $71,875. We will keep you updated if the race goes. Good luck to all Group 91 Members and our partner RJR Racing.
- Lisa's Palace also has been progressing nicely and looking for her to make her debut sometime next month as well. Here is a link to the video of last Sunday’s breeze. She is on the outside. Kelly Breen was happy with the workout, and her next step in training will be attaining her “Gate Card” so she can be entered in race.

Since turf racing is off for the rest of the summer in Florida, she will most likely be making the trip north to join our other horses in Kelly’s barn at Monmouth Park. We will keep you posted.

Kenwood Racing Stable Notes for June 14, 2023
General News
A very busy week with big news being the addition of two new horses to the stable as we were able to purchase both of the two year olds that we targeted on the first day of June Ocala Breeders Sale. We were able to win the bidding at bargain prices for both and Scott will be sending out details about both later today.
Horse by Horse News
- U Kant Whip It was a hard trying 2nd coming off his 9-month layoff. He was involved in a speed duel on the front end and after giving up the lead in the stretch he dug in gamely to retake the lead but was eventually beaten by a late charging long shot. Jockey Paco Lopez said after the race that he felt good but did need the race after the long layoff. He has responded well since the race and we are happy with his effort to earn a nice paycheck for our Group 67 members. We are looking for him to move forward from here on and to revisit the Winner’s Circle again this summer.
- Brit's Candyman is entered tonight in Race 2 at Penn National with veteran rider Julio Hernandez in the irons. The race has been taken off the turf because of rain in Grantville, PA and the field is now down to seven horses with the scratch of #7. He is currently the 7/2 second pick and we wish a lot of luck to the ARC23 Group and our Partner Peter Castellano of Paterpop Racing.
- Wheelingndealing had another workout last week while prepping for a possible entry tomorrow for a race on Sunday June 18th (Father’s Day). Details will follow if she is entered and the race goes.

A lot of news to start off June.
- First of all a big welcome to the newest addition to our stable as we claimed Montauk Summer on Saturday May 27th at Monmouth Park for our Arc23 Group 90 (see photo). He has 4 wins from 6 tries over the Monmouth Park Turf course during his career and we are looking forward to some good things to come from him this season.
- Brit's Candyman had a nice work at Penn National on Wednesday and trainer Mark Salvaggio is very happy with his progression. He was entered today for a five furlong Turf Sprint at Penn National on Thursday June 8th and gets top rider Tyler Conner in a full field of ten. He is currently 6-1 and we wish a lot of luck to the ARC23 Group and our Partner Peter Castellano of Paterpop Racing.

- Red Head Italian has been doing great with her training and I have included Scott’s report to Group 91 Below
Another week, and another registered breeze for your new 2YO, RED HEAD ITALIAN! She worked in company with a pair of 2YO’s fillies this morning, pushing her head in front down the lane to register the “Bullet Breeze” at 3F today at Monmouth Park; meaning she had the fastest breeze time at that distance! I have included the Equibase Workout Notification below. The important thing to note about this breeze however isn’t the time, it was how she did it; well within herself, but eager to do more as the work progressed. Red Head Italian showed us her speed at the 2YO sale with her 10.1 breeze, but she is starting to show the mental aptitude as well when it’s time to work. She has come out of the work well so far, and fingers crossed she continues to progress each week. We’ll be sure to keep you posted.

- Palace Malice / Lisa Limon 21 filly has officially been named Lisa’s Palace a name suggested by long time Kenwood Group member and supporter Cyn L. I have included Scott’s report to the group today after her 2nd timed breeze.
Lisa’s Palace registered another breeze this morning, going in company with a pair of other 2YO fillies in Kelly’s Barn (including Kenwood’s Red Head Italian). She did it all well within herself, with no urging from the rider and a strong gallop out through the wire. She stopped the clock in 36:40 for the 3F workout, and I have included the Equibase Workout Notification below. LP continues to do everything asked of her and is progressing nicely in her short time with Kelly’s team. She has come out of this work in good order so far, and fingers crossed she can continue to move forward on a weekly basis through June!

- We will be attending the June OBS with the Under Tack show beginning on June 5th through June 10th and the actual Sale on June 13th – 15th. We will be looking for one or two value horses to add to our stable as well as watching two of our Yearling Pinhook Group 88 horses sell. See Nick deMeric’s comments below.
“They are on the sale OBS June ground, Robb, prepping the next couple of days. The Maximus Mischief/Port of Indy filly is showing most of the two right now. The Sharp Azteca/Reign Suzanne filly is a big, good looking lass, but has not shown a lightening turn of foot thus far. So far so good, anyway.”
Best, Nick.
- Wheelingndealing had an easy solo workout today at Monmouth Park, going 4F in :54. As Kelly stated when catching up this afternoon, “just a fitness workout; stress free”. We’ll continue to get some conditioning back into her off the layoff, before looking for a sprint race hopefully later in June. She has run well on turf and the Tapeta surface at Gulfstream, so we should have some options when she is ready.

“The Lisa Limon filly just prepped here at OBS in :10'47, galloping out in :21'72. It was a good solid work and should put her where we want her coming into the sale. All good so far..”
In addition, three of the horses for from our Group 88 Yearling Pinhook group, Hips 489, 624 and 1133 will go through the ring between Wednesday 4/26 and Friday 4/28. Wonderful news last week as Lisa Limon gave birth to a lovely filly by Connect on Wednesday night at Overbrook Farm (see video taken shortly after she was born on Wednesday night and pictures and video of the two of them out in the paddock on Friday morning). Congratulations to our Lisa Limon Broodmare Group on the addition of this great looking filly to the group and for Lisa Limon now four out of four with her foals since becoming a broodmare, a truly remarkable feat.
