update, morning training opportunity, please review!
- Life On the Edge came out flying, battled for the lead, then stopped suddenly turning for home and the rider did not push her after that. We naturally were concerned, as anyone who saw the race would be, but it turned out she had “the thumps” when she returned to the barn, a very obvious reason for stopping and totally treatable. It’s generally a reaction to Lasix, not that uncommon the first time they get treated with it for a race. Usually it’s just a matter of less Lasix next time, it’s rarely a long-term issue. The horse can continue to train, no time off, and run back in a few weeks barring something unforeseen. To quote trainer Kelly Breen “Valedictorian (his multiple stakes winning filly) had it, it’s very manageable. I bet her (Life On the Edge), I was stunned when she stopped like that, but it’s very treatable”. She showed a ton of speed and talent, battling head to head for the lead in a fast pace for most of the race. With the speed she showed today she should be tough to beat with this resolved and a race under her belt next time out.
- Tomorrow is the debut of Shake It Up Baby. Been showing a ton of speed and ability from the get go, excellent final work July 1st. . There are a couple in here who have the advantage of a race under their belt, first start usually not a horse’s best, but that said he’s doing super and we are expecting him to run very well.
- MORNING TRAINING NEXT TUESDAY! Please join us for morning training next Tuesday at Monmouth Park, your opportunity to see your horses train, take photos, meet your trainer and riders, etc. As of now (always subject to change!) several horses are scheduled to work including Start A Fire, Solar, and our two new two year olds, Red Rocks colt and Overanalyze filly. Others will gallop, all weather permitting. Please email us for meeting details if you’d like to attend, space limited!
- Exchanging Ember returned to active training today, jogged easily at Penn with no problems. She had some down time while remaining at Penn National with Mark Salvaggio, which seems to have done her a world of good (as time usually does with horses).
- Bullion will be shipping to Kentucky shortly to join trainer Steve Asmussen’s string there.
- Solar doing super, not a bad step or issue since claiming him at the end of last month. We are looking for a race for him now.
- More Ice had a nice, easy work at Los Al (below) for his stake engagement opening day, July 17th at Del Mar. Will be entered tomorrow. Doing super, won two big races as a two year old at Del Mar last year so we expect a big effort from him here.
- Giuliana Vee well at farm, expect her to be ready to return to training by the end of July or early August.
- Start A Fire training well at Monmouth, heading towards his debut, expected to breeze next Tuesday.
- Our three two year olds in groups #53 & #54 Red Rocks colt, Soldat filly, Overanalyze filly all well. The Red Rocks colt and Overanalyze filly are making very rapid progress and are scheduled to work next Tuesday again at Monmouth. Real values here for our final groups of 2019!
