Wow, what a terrific start to September to continue an exceptional summer for Kenwood runners! September 4th featured a solid 3rd by the hard trying Video Mov at Monmouth, followed by a going away 8 length win for PJ’s Enigma at Penn, her first win for Kenwood after a number of disappointing races. PJ's Enigma is well named; she has her quirks to be sure, but she does have ability, and showed she’s capable of winning races for us, albeit against a few overmatched runners (keep yourself in the best company and your horses in the worst company!). PJ’s Enigma took a major step forward in her Penn National debut on July 29th, finishing a solid second to the heavy favorite while trying every step of the way despite being in close quarters for much of the race with a less than ideal inside trip. While it was a lower level race recall she was 11th of 11 horses at Monmouth Park and you can appreciate what a leap forward this was for her. Note that Selma Gayle followed a similar path, coming from Gulfstream Park with equally awful form, running a well beaten but improved 3rd her first time at Penn, then reeling off three impressive wins in a row for us, and PJ appears to be right on the same path. Kudos to Mark Salvaggio for a job well done! When your most disappointing horse of the year runs this well you know things are on a roll and September is turning out to be another excellent month for Kenwood Racing runners, with two big wins and a 3rd in the first four days of the month!
