This is especially for the owners of Start A Fire but the two minute video of morning training at T-Square Stud in Ocala on Wednesday, March 13th is useful for all to see the breaking-training process. You’ll see manager Adam Parker walking Start A Fire for us to see (note the comment about what a big horse he is, still growing!), then the rider getting on him, then training on the track with another horse, and finally returning to the barn and being unsaddled and walked. Along with previous videos we’ve sent of him being broken to a saddle in a stall, etc. this offers a sense of what’s involved in getting a horse from an unbroken yearling into training at a training center and finally to the racetrack.

Start A Fire is a large, powerful horse, as can be plainly be seen in the video. He towers over 95%+ of the horses offered for sale at OBS. Horses like this have a ton of potential, but they are rarely quick to get to the races. If you want a horse with size, scope and classic potential, you almost always wait longer. A compact filly like #224, the Into Mischief filly we just purchased, is almost certain to get to the races quicker and show more speed. It’s not a matter of one being ‘better’ than the other, they are just two very different types of horses. Ideally, you want to own some of each; smaller – quick athletic types and bigger – powerful distance types, they are an excellent compliment to each other.

A few catch up works back after the sale (see below). All doing well, more details to follow.

Here’s some Vimeo links for the horses we purchased at OBS this week taken by our social media team. Not perfect, but gives you an idea of the sale process and what the horses look like…
