Results, works, entries

  • Two 4th place finishes yesterday in California. First, Annie’s Candy was the victim of a poor ride at Pleasanton as he was sent to the lead on a deep rail (against his off the pace running style) and tired late after battling the entire race to finish 4th, beaten just over 2 lengths for the win. A better ride and trip and he gets the win in a similar spot.
  • Then, at Los Alamitos, Preacher broke a step slow (but much better than when totally left at the gate in his debut last time), then rocketed to the lead and kept it until the stretch before tiring noticeably late to finish 4th. He was facing two exceptionally good horses (the winner was purchased for $550,000 and was working spectacularly for this, probably will be in graded stake at Del Mar next), and showed excellent speed and a nice step forward from his debut. A little softer level and he should be very tough to beat next time.
  • Two big entries to report for Monmouth Park this Friday as Federal Dominance and ShimmyShimmy Shake both get in good spots. Please let us know if you plan to attend and need help with seating – admissions for what should be a very exciting day, ALL owners welcome!
  • Shake It Up Baby and Life On the Edge both worked this morning at Monmouth and went very fast and very well in their final tune ups for their career debuts. There are races for them at Monmouth July 12,13th (remember, these are possible ENTRIES! NOBODY knows if these races will go until entry day 2-3 days in advance). Our entries page has all entry info.

  • As we come down to the final few shares in our June groups, take a look at the video links on Vimeo trainer Kelly Breen took this morning of the Overanalyze - Bold Kitten filly and the Red Rocks (IRE) - Honey Green colt galloping out from their first timed works at Monmouth Park this morning. They went together in 37.0 flat, going easily and still in the top half of all works time wise. These two horses are making very rapid progress, already went to the gate this weekend and nicely on track to make their career debuts this summer at Monmouth.

  • Magic Musketier and Seahawk Lisa both had good works yesterday in California (below).
  • All others well at farms and tracks from coast to coast.

Thanks to all who attended an excellent annual meeting yesterday, plenty of good questions and good info.
